Body Of Missing Teen Girl Found In Field Near Red Bluff High School
March 1, 2013

RED BLUFF (CBS13) – Family and friends of a 14-year-old girl after her body was found in a field Thursday afternoon.

Marysa Nichols was discovered half a mile from her school, Red Bluff High School, in Tehema County. Nichols told her mom she’d be home from school Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., but never showed up.

More than 100 family members and friends leaned on each other for support at a tearful vigil.

“Marysa, she is bubbly, sweet, gentle, kind-hearted, loving, just an amazing kid,” said family friend Sally Howarth.

A family friend says Nichols was last seen at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at her school’s tennis courts, but didn’t come inside for lunch at noon.

“Sounds like foul play to me,” said Howarth.

Police remain tight-lipped about the details, but said during a news conference that Nichols’ death is being investigated as a homicide.

Red Bluff Police Chief Paul Nanfito said members of the Tehama Inter-Agency SWAT team found the body of Marysa Nichols on Thursday morning near Red Bluff High School.

No suspects have been identified, and Nanfito declined to say how investigators think she was killed or whether there was any evidence of sexual assault.

According to Nanfito, the teen's stepfather said Marysa was supposed to meet her friends for lunch at 11 a.m. Tuesday but never arrived.

Marysa was reported missing Tuesday after she didn't return home from her independent study program at a charter school on the high school campus, the Record Searchlight of Redding reported (http://bit.ly/Vix9qk ).

Officers searched a field near the high school three times based on tips police received before finding the body, Nanfito said.

Vigil held in memory of Red Bluff girl
March 1, 2013

Hundreds gathered in front of the Tehama County Courthouse Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil in memory of Marysa Nichols, the 14-year-old Red Bluff girl whose body was found in a creek near Red Bluff High School earlier that day.

The girl's body was found by law enforcement at 11 a.m. Thursday as they searched Brickyard Creek. She had been reported missing on Tuesday.

Red Bluff police Chief Paul Nanfito said the case is being investigated as a homicide.

He did not release a cause of death. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

"I cannot say more without compromising the investigation," the chief said on Thursday. "We have no suspects at this time as we continue this very intensive investigation."

Plea delayed, again, in Red Bluff murder case

 Wednesday, Apr 3 2013, 4:09 pm
Ricky Nichols sat shaking his head in a Tehama County Superior Court on Wednesday morning as the case concerning the death of his 14-year-old daughter was once again continued.

Nichols, 52, of Strathmore, is the father of Marysa Nichols, whose body was found in a creek bed near Red Bluff High School on Feb. 28.

“I am so frustrated,” Nichols said. “No one will tell me anything about my daughter’s death. I’ve been to the Red Bluff police and they can’t tell me anything. The only information I have is what I read in the newspapers or hear on television and a copy of the death certificate. And now the case is continued again.”

Quentin Ray Bealer, 39, of Red Bluff, charged with murder, was scheduled to enter a plea on Wednesday, but his attorney, Shon Northam, was granted a continuance because he has not received any documentation other than the initial preliminary report.

So many "rights" for the criminals and so few "rights" for the victims or their families.
