Exclusive: Ridgeway murder suspect Austin Sigg treated for pornography addiction

Posted on: 11:38 pm, October 24, 2012

Fox31 Denver is digging into the history of 17-year-old Austin Sigg. He’s in custody and faces charges for the murder and kidnapping of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway in Westminster.

Senior investigative reporter Josh Bernstein confirmed that the teenager had been treated for an addiction to pornography.

Bernstein reports family members say he was just 15 years old and his addiction was so strong that it required counseling.

Additionally, we learned he left the mainland of the United States shortly after an alleged attempted abduction at Ketner Lake on Memorial Day Weekend.

 ::snipping2::

After the Ketner Lake incident, Sigg and his family went on vacation in the U.S. Virgin Islands. They stayed at a luxury resort.

Local police in the Virgin Islands told Bernstein they were unaware of his arrest until we contacted them and provided them with details.

A spokesperson says they have yet to be contacted by the FBI or any other law enforcement agency that might be tracking Sigg’s movements before the murder of Jessica Ridgeway.

We asked the FBI if investigators were of the suspect’s travels and they said they would pass along the information to their agents and will see where it leads. They declined further comment.

Law enforcement officials in the Virgin Islands were very concerned to learn Sigg had stayed in their area. They asked Fox31 Denver to provide as much information as possible. We gave them a copy of Austin Sigg’s mug shot and a copy of his custody report.

A spokesperson says there is a lot of crime in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but there were no known missing persons cases. Nevertheless, they will be taking a closer look.

Pastor on Jessica Ridgeway's family: 'Strongest people I've met'

 11:10 PM, Oct 25, 2012

WESTMINSTER - As Jessica Ridgeway's family prepares to endure court proceedings where they will likely learn graphic details of her death, few people can truly understand their pain.

Rick Long, Lead Pastor and Founder of Grace Church in Arvada, has been with the family from the beginning offering comfort and support.

Long says Jessica's mother, aunt, and grandmother are the strongest people he's ever met.

He says their strength comes, in part, from their neighbors who sent thousands of cards, flooded the family with donations, and created a memorial for Jessica at Chelsea Park near her home.

Community troubled by young age of suspect in Jessica Ridgeway murder

But the DA cannot purse the death penalty.

The U.S. Supreme Court says it’s cruel and unusual punishment for anyone under 18.

If Sigg is convicted, he’d be eligible for parole after 40 years.

I hated it when this was ruled on earlier.  I truly believe there are some individuals so twisted the rest of us aren't safe unless they are behind bars for the rest of their days.

GERALD SMALL, ET AL, dba AMERIFUNDING, Gerald Small, Kelli Burkhalter-Small, Charles Winnett, Chad Heinrich, and Robert Sigg, were arraigned in U.S. District Court, District of Colorado. These subjects were charged with bank fraud stemming from their alleged roles in a scheme to obtain loans employing stolen identities, and then utilizing these loan proceeds to purchase substandard houses which were used to perpetuate this scheme. Losses attributable to this alleged scheme now exceed $19 million.

I think from the court docs I read - Robert Sigg did a plea deal.

Jessica Ridgeway suspect one of the first through new juvenile law
Updated:   10/26/2012 10:55:05 AM MDT

http://**/news/ci_21857895/jessica-ridgeway-suspect-one-first-through-new-juvenile#ixzz2AQlhK5KV

The 17-year-old boy accused of killing Jessica Ridgeway likely will be the first high-profile teenage defendant to test a new law designed to make it more difficult to charge juveniles as adults.

Austin Sigg on Tuesday will be formally charged related to the abduction and death of 10-year-old Jessica and likely for the attempted abduction in May of an adult jogger near Ketner Lake.

Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey anticipates charging Sigg, who will turn 18 on Jan. 17, as an adult.

"That's the appropriate thing to do," Storey said Thursday.

Sigg's defense lawyers will likely move for a reverse-transfer hearing, said Kim Dvorchak, director of the Colorado Juvenile Defender Coalition.

This legal procedure — allowed under House Bill 1271, signed by the governor in April — would require the prosecution to make a case for why Sigg should not be tried in juvenile court.

<snipped>

If Sigg were convicted in juvenile court of the charges described in his detention record — first-degree murder, felony murder and kidnapping in Jessica's case and criminal attempt to kidnap and to murder in the attack on the jogger — he would face a maximum sentence of seven years for each count, which could run consecutively, Dvorchak said.

If he is convicted as a minor charged as an adult, Sigg faces life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years on a single first-degree murder charge. Convictions on the additional charges would lengthen the sentence, Dvorchak said.

He definitely did, which is why his explanation (albeit little we know) is incongruent for me still-

I do not believe he acted alone or was not without influences that have not been identified.

Police look at Colo. teen in 2 other child cases

DENVER —
Police in a Colorado town where the body of a missing 10-year-old girl was found said Friday that they want to question a teenage suspect in two unsolved child enticement cases.

A sketch developed in the September incidents bears some resemblance to 17-year-old Austin Sigg, who’s being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of Jessica Ridgeway, Arvada police spokesman Sgt. Mark Nazaryk said.

The sketch and Sigg’s mug shot wasn’t an exact match, Nazaryk noted.

He also said investigators were trying to determine if Sigg had access to a royal blue, four-door sedan described by witnesses in both cases.

The September child enticement cases involved a man who tried to lure two boys about the same age as Jessica into a car.

Ridgeway Suspect To Be Questioned In Other Attempted Abductions

Police in a Colorado town where the body of a missing 10-year-old girl was found want to question a teenage suspect in two unsolved child enticement cases.

Arvada police spokesman Sgt. Mark Nazaryk Friday says a sketch developed in the September incidents bears some resemblance to 17-year-old Austin Sigg, who's being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of Jessica Ridgeway.

Nazaryk notes the sketch and Sigg's mug shot isn't an exact match.

Kermit-  respectfully, there is absolutely no evidence that Sigg is a sex addict.  I have never studied sex addiction in my practice so I could not speak to that, but I have studied both homicidal motivations and sexually motivated offenders to include sexual sadists, ritual offenders, all areas of paraphilic motivations and associated criminology with each.

You are a talented researcher with good insight.

An "addiction to porn" is really a layperson descriptor for very specific issues based on exactly what his behavior and actions were based on access.  I can tell you to be removed from curriculum, and put in treatment, there is likely a juvenile offense associated with this,  OR  someone became aware of deviant behavior which was attributable to the kind of porn that contains violence in a sexual situation (s).  For me, this is underscored in Mindy's bktcy filing, or she was concerned about being sued for something.

I was told by LE yesterday that a gag order will preclude any autopsy information released and  quite frankly,  the COD and wounds inflicted to the remains evidence is the single biggest determining factor in this offenders classification.

I am not going to publish the inside rumors  ( I call them rumors because with a gag,  no way to vett them,  but legit sources.)

I think it is dangerous to assume this kid is telling the truth.  As an example, who really believes he is driving by her 1000 ft track,  goes up the street and turns around,  grabs her against her will in full daylight and houses,  and manages to subdue her and hogtie her in the middle of the street.

He would have had to -to believe his story, and with a cargo value of less than 64 cu. ft WITH the seats down, he would still need to reach behind him and close the rear door by hand.   Do we suppose he just stopped in the middle of the street with light snow at the school hour and hogtied a child without anyone noticing and did all this, to finally calmly drive somewhere, not his house, and dismember her without detection and find some undisclosed place to hide her partial remains for 5 days?

Not going to happen without help or an alternative location he has access to where he was apparently home by midnight because of a JR license.

This case was sealed before they had a minor as a suspect, it is that heinous-

Woman says Jessica Ridgeway murder suspect Austin Sigg stared at her on trail

JESSICA RIDGEWAYOCTOBER 24, 2012BY: CINDY ADAM

A woman who twice encountered Austin Sigg while on a lake trail, said Wednesday the teen accused of killing Colo. girl Jessica Ridgeway stared at her and gave her uncomfortable feeling.

Christine Mueller said she recently ran into Sigg and two of his friends near Standley Lake, while walking her dog.

She told 9 News , “It just really freaked me out… When I saw them I just felt automatically like they were up to no good. It hit me. I almost fell over seeing his picture. It brought me back to seeing him here and it just being so close.”

Mueller told the local news media outlet that she does not know what would have taken place during her encounters with Sigg, 17, had she not been with her dog each time.

“I think he’s my protector. I think if he hadn’t been with me that day, I just wonder what would have happened,” she said.

Mueller describes her encounter in the video at the link (after the ex girlfriend).

“She was freaked out by a teenager staring at her at the park.” Emily Alexander says Sigg’s stare was so cold that her daughter remembered it days later.

“After Jessica was kidnapped she told me she knew who it was. She was sure she knew who it was and it was this teenager. A few days later he was walking by and she pointed him out and she said ‘That’s the guy!’ That was him.”

Authorities towed an SUV from Sigg’s home Wednesday. Sources say police were still in search of a secondary crime scene where Ridgeway’s body may have been dismembered as parts of it were discovered on October 10 in an open field in Arvada.

Parents around the neighborhood were in shock. “This is where we live. This is where my baby will grow up,” one says.

Many believe Sigg’s young age was one factor that made it possible for him to stay under law enforcement’s radar.

“Because he was 17. I didn’t believe her,” says Anderson. “I thought she was just being paranoid.”

Only quoting and adding to my post because before I was done I must have hit a wrong key on the computer..

I don't know this guy..or what propelled him to this point ..but I do know that studies as far back as the late 1970's show a link between hard porn and violence.  And today that is considered a known fact within the behavorist realm..concentrated hard porn over time leads to an escaltion in violence of the individuals.  As far back as the 70's and 80's studies were done on nornal guys..on a football team, at State university..being shown hard porn over and over again..while the rest of their team mates weren't.  What they found that was on the field ..and in everyday life..these guys became more aggresive..and more out of control..and much more violent on the field.  I have always believed there was a direct correlation..and I think there are many cases that prove it..almost every serial killer to date..had an addication or near addiction to porn.  Then you have to put in the equation that hard porn graduates itself to hard porn containing violence..

Some say YouTube video of crime scene search shot by Jessica’s accused killer

Posted on: 5:54 pm, October 26, 2012, , updated on: 06:05pm, October 26, 2012

Some people were saying Friday Jessica Ridgeway’s accused killer shot a video while driving a Jeep past an area where police were conducting a search.

The video was shot the day after the 10-year-old’s body was found in a field in Arvada. The full YouTube video appears below.

It was shot by someone driving a jeep. The logo is clear on the steering wheel in the video. Sigg drove a jeep. Police towed it away from his home near 102nd Ave. and Oak St. Wednesday afternoon.

 ::snipping2::

The YouTube video was posted by someone with the handle “LostWithinBoredom,” the same one Sigg used to post other videos in the past.

The video lasts for 1:25. It was posted with this one-line statement: “Driving through the area around where the dead body was found in Arvada”
