Police timed release of Ridgeway info
Published: Oct. 28, 2012 at 2:03 PM

DENVER, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Police in Colorado may have flushed out a suspect in the slaying of young Jessica Ridgeway by revealing a key clue to the public, a source told The Denver Post.

The newspaper said Sunday the mother of 17-year-old suspect Austin Sigg contacted police the day after investigators told the news media there was a link between the Ridgeway slaying and an attack on a jogger in late May.

The source told the Post police were aware of the connection for more than a week. The specific reason Mindy Sigg called police has not been revealed due to a gag order on the case.

Media sources revealed that investigators took Austin Sigg's DNA at the getgo in their initial house to house search for missing Jessica.  DNA was obtained from the bagged remains and the backpack.  It was only a matter of time until they connected the dots.

Could it be that the mother saw the writing on the wall and felt a confession from her minor  son would be in his best interest?  In other words ... Austin was in agreement and that is why he is fully cooperating.  I could be wrong.

Sigg gave DNA sample, home searched right after Jessica Ridgeway disappeared

FOX 31 Denver has learned the teenager suspected of killing Jessica Ridgeway was one of 500 people whose DNA was taken during random samples.

We have also learned that Police searched 17-year-old Austin Sigg’s house in the 10600 block of 102nd Ave. as part of the original search in the neighborhood after Jessica disappeared.

Prosecutors Say There Is DNA Evidence Linking Suspect to Jessica Ridgeway's Murder
Oct. 26, 2012

<snipped>

Prosecutors said that Sigg's DNA was on Ridgeway's backpack and at the crime scene in the Arvada, Colo., where her body was found Oct. 10. Lawyers also said that traces of Sigg's DNA were left at a crime scene involving a jogger who was attacked in May.

Sources tell ABC News that human remains believed to be Ridgeway's were found inside his home, which is less than a mile away from where the 10-year-old lived with her mother. Investigators have been searching for clues in Sigg's home since his arrest. Sigg shares the home with his mother, Mindy.

Report: Jessica Ridgeway Murder Suspect Confessed to Keeping Remains in Crawl Space
Posted on: 6:12 pm, October 24, 2012

<snipped>

According to CBS4 in Denver, Sigg told police he strangled Ridgeway after he got her into his vehicle on Oct. 5 — although Westminster police have not released this information.

Sigg reportedly waived his rights and told investigators that human remains could be found inside a crawl space under the home where he was arrested.

Sigg is charged with the first-degree murder and kidnapping of Ridgeway, whose dismembered body was found five days after she disappeared.

KDVR in Denver reports that Sigg wanted to be a mortician.

Sigg’s mother, Mindy Sigg, told the Associated Press that she called police and alerted them to her son’s involvement in Ridgeway’s murder.

“I made the phone call, and he turned himself in. That’s all I have to say,” she said before she broke down in tears and hung up the phone.

“Jessica’s Angels” will Patroll Jeffco streets despite administrators’ concerns
Posted on: 8:21 am, October 29, 2012

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Parents in Jefferson County may feel a little more comfortable with their kids walking to school Monday morning.

Not only is there a suspect behind bars in the murder case of Jessica Ridgeway, a group honoring the slain child will begin patrolling the streets this week.

The group is called “Jessica’s Angels,” and it’s comprised of student and parent volunteers who want to make sure the streets of Jefferson County are safe for children who walk to school.

The group was founded by Pomona High School junior Alex Groen, who has paid close attention to every twist and turn in the search for Ridgeway. The Westminster 10-year-old was kidnapped on her way to Witt Elementary School.

“She was just a 10 years old,” Groen said. “That shouldn’t happen to kids. That’s just one of those things: That shouldn’t happen to anybody, especially not a little kid.”

Sigg faces 17 charges, including first-degree murder after deliberation, first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault on a child and robbery in connection with Jessica's disappearance and subsequent murder.

 ::snipping2::

Sigg is also charged with first-degree attempted murder and second-degree kidnapping in connection with the Ketner Lake incident. Sigg charged as adult, faces 17 counts in Jessica Ridgeway murder case
Posted on: 10:46 am, October 30, 2012

 ::snipping2::
The courtroom was flowing over Tuesday, with a small contingent of Sigg’s family and a larger contingent of his friends — most of them from Standley Lake High School.

FOX31′s Marika Lorraine approached two girls who said they had attended the hearing to support Sigg. The two were outside the courtroom. When asked why they were not inside, they told Lorraine “there was no more room.”

Among the sizable contingent inside the court was Sigg’s father. FOX31′s Hendrik Sybrandy said Robert Sigg sat two rows behind his son and was visibly shaking.

Ridgeway’s family showed up with more numbers for the hearing. Sybrandy said that large group was once against dressed in purple, the favorite color of the slain 10-year-old, and showed no visible emotion.

The next step in this case will be a reverse transfer request, scheduled for Nov. 27. Sybrandy explained the process of this particular court proceeding on “Colorado’s Everyday Show” shortly after the hearing concluded.

“In the old days, prosecutors would file charges against Sigg as an adult and this case would proceed straight to a district court, with the next step being an adult hearing,” Sybrandy said. “Nowadays, the defense attorneys get a chance to make an argument against Sigg being charged as an adult.

“That is what will take place at the reverse transfer request.”

Yes.  I'm not sure anyone bought his 'hogtie and murder took place in the vehicle immediately after capture' story.

I've read that he can't be put to death due to his age.

Hopefully being tried as an adult means a couple of life sentences with no chance for parole.

Austin Sigg to be tried as adult in Jessica Ridgeway murder case
12:34 PM, Oct 30, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Sigg faces 17 charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault on a child and robbery in connection with Jessica's disappearance and subsequent murder. He is also charged with three counts of crime of violence for Jessica's murder. The crime of violence charges stem of Jessica's abduction, injury and eventual death
 ::snipping2::
Sigg is also charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of attempted sexual assault in connection with the Ketner Lake incident. He is also charged with three counts of crime of violence.

In that attempted-abduction case, a woman reported a man grabbed her from behind and placed a rag over her mouth that had a chemical smell over Memorial Day weekend. She was able to escape the attacker.

The crime of violence charges against Sigg stem from Sigg allegedly using a deadly weapon - in this case a chemical mixture - to attempt to kidnap the victim. It also includes his alleged use of force against the victim.

Sigg's next court appearance is Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. The defense team has seven days to file a request to reverse the ruling to seng Sigg to adult court.

Interesting about the license plate.

I do think he was feeling boxed in, that LE was on his trail, which led to his confession to his mother.

I had read or heard in a news video that he placed the backpack where he did and some remains in that field to distract LE as to his whereabouts. That makes sense to me.

I also feel there might have been another person involved. But that's just a gut feeling at this time.

What about the disembering of Jessica's body?  What about the disposal of Jessica's remains and backpack?

If released ... what would the sealed documents reveal?  Did Austin act alone in the cover up of his wrongdoing against the person of Jessica Ridgeway or ... out of a misguided sense of love did an accomplice enter the picture only to later regret that participation?

Shouldn't there be a mutilation of corpse charge?  Maybe there's a legal reason why not but this charge might add more time to his sentence.

All aspects of the crime against the person of Jessica Ridgeway implies that Austin Sigg's thought process is warped.  He possesses no conscience.  He lacks the ability to reason.  If the scales of justice is balanced ... this young man would receive the death penalty.  However ... for the protection of "other Jessicas" ... Austin should NEVER be released.  IMO
