Sounds like they've ruled out the parents as suspects.  I wonder if investigators have evidence this was a stranger abduction?  Maybe from the backpack or someone who saw a suspicious vehicle?

I hope hope hope Jessica is alive and found soon.

Wondering still about the custody case! Could Mom have had someone take the poor child so she wouldn't be shared or given permanently to Dad? I know they say the parents have been ruled out but I am weirded out by all the sobbing Mom does with no tears! Anything is possible and Mom having this done is much better than the alternative!

I was amazed by her ability to talk about how strong she and her family are and smile and be so calm during the interview and go on about how strong Jessica is.   

It doesn't look as though it was a custody issue that bio-dad and mom were having, rather  child support  for why they were in court this month.

Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said the family has been cooperating with the investigation since the start.
 
According to Richmond County Court in Independence, there was a civil action filed on behalf of Sarah and Jessica Ridgeway for non-support against Jeremiah Bryant this October. The action was filed in Colorado and probably sealed.

ARVADA — A body has been discovered on Pattridge Park open space in the city of Arvada. However, Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said "we are unable to make a connection to the disappearance of Jessica Ridgeway."

Flanked by Arvada police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan, Materasso said they would take no questions.

He said investigators would continue to process the scene through the night and another briefing is planned for early Thursday morning.

Dozens of federal and police investigators have been combing an area near an abandoned mining shack on the Pattridge Park open space in Arvada since about 5 p.m.

FBI agents have set up a command unit in the area and are using a fire truck with its ladder extended to take photos from above.

Can someone please explain what is meant by "Pattridge Park open space in Arvada"?  I assume that the location is in a park in the town of Arvada but what is 'open space'?  Like a meadow or hillside with no trees?

(DENVER) – Investigators in the case of missing Colorado girl Jessica Ridgeway announced Wednesday that a body was found in Arvada, Colo., just a few miles from the 10-year-old’s home in Westminster. 

Investigators have yet to identify the body, but sources tell ABC News that they believe it is Jessica.

Westminster Police spokesman Trevor Materasso says the body was discovered in a park space.

Earlier Wednesday, authorities cleared Jessica’s parents as suspects in her disappearance.

“At this point in the investigation, after thoroughly looking at the parents, we’re confident that they’re not involved in the disappearance of Jessica Ridgeway,” said Materasso. “The focus shifts to an unknown suspect, as we think that she was abducted.”

Jessica Ridgeway, Missing Colorado Girl, Was Abducted By Unknown Suspect, Authorities Believe (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

DENVER -- Authorities searching for a 10-year-old Colorado girl said Wednesday they believe she was abducted by an unknown suspect, and they're confident her parents were not involved.

Jessica Ridgeway was last seen Friday after leaving home to meet friends at a park so they could walk to school together in the Denver suburb of Westminster.

Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said at a news conference Wednesday that police "believe this is an abduction," and the focus of the case is not on Jessica's parents, who are cooperating and have been ruled out as suspects.

Authorities are pursuing tips from five other states, including Maine, where a woman reported seeing a girl resembling Jessica Ridgeway on Sunday.

That tip and others from Maryland, Texas, Nevada and Wyoming are among the hundreds of bits of information that have been passed on to Westminster investigators, Materasso said.

He didn't release details but earlier in the day said police were looking at whether there's a link between Jessica's disappearance and the Monday abduction of an 11-year-old girl in Cody, Wyo. – about 500 miles away.

In that case, a man lured an 11-year-old girl into a sport utility vehicle saying he needed help finding his puppy. She was released about four hours later and found by hunters. Police there say they're looking for a white man between 55 and 60 years old with short, strawberry blond or white hair and a neatly trimmed mustache.
