Police in Colorado said Wednesday 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg has been arrested in the murder of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
Scripps Denver station 7News said Sigg was arrested at his family's home in Westminster at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday on suspicion of two counts of murder in the first degree, one count of second degree kidnapping and two counts of criminal attempt.

Sigg lives about 1.2 miles from Chelsea Park, where Ridgeway was walking on October 5 when she disappeared.

Ridgeway's remains were found five days later in an open space park in Arvada.

Sigg, who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, lives on the opposite side of the park from the Ridgeway family.

Sigg’s listed his occupation on the custody report as a student at Arapahoe Community College.

The custody report said officers told Sigg's mother in person that they were arrested her son.

The Associated Press has reported that Sigg's mother said the boy turned himself in. "I made the phone call, he turned himself in. That's all I have to say."

I too have been confused about double charges.  I live in Ohio and routinely see people charged with multiple charges stemming from one incident.   Ex,  two counts of fleeing,  rape,   etc. when there was one incident.   I think it is a way to insure at least some charges stick.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — According to FOX31′s Justin Joseph, the 17-year-old suspected of abducting and murdering 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway was arrested after he confessed to his mother, who then turned him in to police.

Citing an anonymous law enforcement source, Joseph confirmed those details and was also able to report that the suspect, Austin Reed Sigg, had aspirations to become a mortician.

Our Justin Joseph is citing a law enforcement source that says Sigg confessed to killing Ridgeway to his mother. That source says it was the mother who turned Sigg in.

Westminster police have arrested a 17 year old boy for investigation of the murder of Jessica Ridgeway.

Austin Reed Sigg was arrested late Tuesday night after police received a tip that led them to a home near Ketner Lake Open Space, according to a news release from the Westminster Police Department.

Authorities also said that charges will be filed against Sigg for the May 28 attempted abduction of an adult jogger near Ketner Lake, which authorities confirmed earlier this week was connected to Jessica's kidnapping and murder.

Sigg will be charged with two counts of murder in the first degree and a second-degree kidnapping charge, among others.

According to police documents, Sigg is a student Arapahoe Community College.

On March 23, Sigg won second place in the Crime Scene Investigation division of the Health Occupation Students of America State Leadership Conference competition.
Police will release additional information at a news conference at 12:05 p.m. at the Westminster Police Department.

According to arrest documents, Sigg lives about a block west of Ketner Lake Open Space and about 1½ miles south of where Jessica Ridgeway was snatched from the street as she walked to school the morning of Oct. 5.

Police are blocking access to Sigg's home. A search warrant is being served on the home, Westminster police investigator Trevor Materasso said.

According to HLN ... there is only one vehicle in the household which implies that there should be lots of DNA evidence.  Sigg would have required a vehicle to transport Jessica to the location where her remains were found as well as the neighborhood where the back pack was discover.

His mother must have been suspicious for some time if he borrowed her vehicle during the times that the backpack and torso were left and when the abduction occured.

Where did he do the dismemberment and if it was at home how did his mother and sister not know?

For a 17 year old to have done all aspects of this crime defies the odds.

Police arrested Austin Reed Sigg, 17, on suspicion of two counts of murder in the first degree, one count of second degree kidnapping and two counts of criminal attempt.

The first three charges are related to the Jessica Ridgeway case, according to Westminster Police spokesman Trevor Materasso.

Materasso said the last two charges, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping are related to the incident in May at Ketner Lake.
