Some of these comments from katu are quite terrible. I'm hoping for a positive outcome against the odds.

I agree with you Rob, hoping for the best but this not looking good at all. It is simply amazing that this occured so close to her home and at 7 am in morning. I could envision a car jacking at night, but this would have been pretty brazen.

BTW, good to see you Rob.

Thanks Red, always good to see you too, friend. Hope all is well with you. Keep up the good work.

Police: 21 new tips in Gresham woman's disappearance

by KGW Staff

GRESHAM, Ore. -- At a press conference Thursday afternoon, police said that in recent hours they had received at least 21 new tips in the case of a Gresham woman's disappearance.
Whitney Heichel, 21, failed to show up for work at the Starbucks on Northeast Burnside Street in Gresham at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and her co-workers said she has always been very punctual.

Heichel was later reported missing in what Gresham police describe as a suspicious disappearance and crews Wednesday searched for evidence at Dodge Park, in Sandy, and at Larch Mountain, above the Gorge. Crews resumed the Larch Mountain search Thursday.

They said her vehicle had been to the two locations. The Gresham police chief cautioned that the items seized at those locations may or may not end up being evidence tied to the case.
Lt. Claudio Grandjean Thursday afternoon said police have found "some important items," but did not elaborate.

"We are hoping for the best and we're doing everything we can to find Whitney," he said. "We're using every investigative techinique at our disposal."

Family spokesman Jim Vaughn joined the press conference to say that people from all over the country had come to assist in the search and that they were "keeping positive about the whole situation."

I read somewhere that what they found at Dodge Park was her apron.  Like everything else, just a rumor unless it comes from LE.

Haily DuFresne
My boyfriend and I were diving up to Larch moutain to hunt, we were driving around looking through bushes to see if we saw any deer. About 4 miles past all houses he turned to me an said he saw a girl sitting on a dead tree curled up.. I told him maybe we should turn around and ask if she needed help but we said f*** it and kept going. Now that we've seen this everywhere we feel horrible because the girl he saw ha brown hair and everything, plus it was strange to see a girl in the woods with no car and around no houses. I'm so sorry that we could have been a huge help and saved this girl but we didn't. My boyfriend called te cops and reported that we saw her and that she was still alive.

TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) - Troutdale police say they uncovered a cell phone in connection with the case of the missing Gresham woman, Whitney Heichel.

Dispatchers say the initial call came in at 5:24 p.m.

Police say children were out playing in a wooded area near the Troutdale Terrace Apartments on Southwest 257th Avenue, when they found the cell phone lying in the bushes.

"I looked at the phone and noticed the girl on the background was the girl on the news," said Carissa Maxwell. "I looked at her texts and they said, 'where are you, you're missing,' and when my Mom came home she saw it and called police."

Detectives searched the area for a little over an hour to collect any other evidence in the case. Gresham police say they only uncovered the cell phone.

Gresham police say it's unclear if the cell phone belongs to Heichel herself, but those who found the phone say they are convinced.

Caitlan Cunningham My husband and I recently moved out of the apartment right next to the couple. We would park our cars on the same road. Cars were always getting broke into and a lot of other crazy stuff happened. This hits so close to home and I just pray for Whitneys safe return. My thoughts and prayers are with this family always!

Children say they find missing Ore. woman's cell phone
Published: Oct 19, 2012 at 6:52 AM PDT

GRESHAM, Ore. Children playing in an apartment complex discovered a cell phone they say they are sure belongs to the 21-year-old woman who has been missing since Tuesday. But police would not confirm that Thursday night.

The apartment complex is about four miles from Whitney Heichel's Gresham home.

 ::snipping2::

Elizabeth Spencer said she saw Heichel struggling to park her SUV the night before she disappeared.

"She just said she hadn't been feeling good and was tired," Spencer said. "She actually had asked me, she goes, 'Can you come over here for a minute?' She asked if she had bumped the car in front of her. I said, 'No. You're about two inches away from it, actually. I was like, 'Do you want me to just re-park it for you?' She said, 'Yeah,' kind of embarrassed to ask."

But Spencer said nothing seemed unusual about Heichel or her SUV.

 ::snipping2::

Gresham police said if there is new information or new details related to the case they won't release them until a briefing at City Hall Friday morning.

 ::snipping2::

"I noticed that the front passenger side window had been broken out," he said. "She had a little dangling bead thing from the rear view mirror that had been ripped off; the back seats were down, which was odd; there was a rubber mat and the carpet that was in the back and those were on top of the seats. So stuff had been moved."

On Thursday, police searched a wooded area nearby and examined the surveillance video at a gas station that captured Heichel's black Ford Explorer around 9 a.m. the day she disappeared. Police said they have also interviewed the gas station attendant, but would not elaborate on what was said.

Investigators have not released any specifics about the video or who was driving the vehicle. Many other businesses have provided police with security footage, reported KATU.
