GRESHAM, Ore. — Searchers found the body of a young Oregon woman who vanished this week on her way to work and a neighbor has been arrested, Gresham police said late Friday night.

The body of Whitney Heichel, 21, was found on Larch Mountain, a remote, forested area east of Gresham, Police Chief Craig Junginger told a news conference.

After collecting DNA and fingerprints and conducting three interviews over three days, police arrested Jonathan Holt, 24, of Gresham, for investigation of aggravated murder, the chief said.

Holt lived in the same apartment complex as Heichel and her husband.

Police have been searching Larch Mountain since Wednesday, believing that Heichel’s SUV was driven there.

Detectives interviewed Holt on Wednesday and Thursday before arresting him during a Friday night interview, the chief said.

There were “many inconsistencies” in Holt’s interviews, Junginger said.

Additional crime lab evidence received Friday morning tied him to Heichel’s vehicle, the chief added.

Jim Vaughn, a family spokesman, addressed the Friday night news conference, thanking police for their commitment in the case.

“Really, words can’t begin to express the sadness that our families are experiencing tonight,” Vaughn said.

“Whitney was a very loving person,” he added. “She was warm, she was kind, she was everything you would want in a friend, relative, spiritual fellow worshipper.”

We are deeply saddened to learn of Whitney's death. Our thoughts and hearts are with Whitney's family, friends, fellow store partners and the Gresham and larger Portland communities during this very sad and difficult time. Whitney was well-liked by everyone she met and was heavily involved in her store and the community she served every day. Whitney, your Starbucks family will miss you greatly.

I'm wondering right now if my concern over the husbands appearance was due to HIM wondering about his neighbor.  Clinton may have suspected him.  This is so horribly sad.  Such a beautiful girl, so full of life.

According to the article posted the neighbor was questioned several times - so Clint much have had an inkling something was up.

Also, credit to the police - they proved me wrong. Good efficient police work.

Anyway - terrible terrible news. My thoughts and prayers are with Whitney.

I bet that couple that rode by are feeling kind of guilty this morning.

I was thinking that, too, but then I wondered if they would have been hurt also if they had stopped.  If Whitney was already deceased it may have been a blessing in disguise that they continued to drive on.

I imagine her killer was preparing a place to hide her body and heard the couple's vehicle coming then hid until the couple continued on.

Extremely sad news; however, thankfully they arrested the SOB that killed her.

It is just frightening as to what lives around us.

May Whitney Heichel rest in eternal peace. My prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

Is this it?

 ::snipping2::

Gresham police said there is surveillance video showing Whitney Heichel's SUV at the gas  station, but the video is poor quality and detectives cannot determine who is driving the car. They also cannot determine if the passenger window was broken at that time.

Technology allowed man to walk on the moon and send back to Earth clearer images than  surveillance cameras can capture from close up.  Why?
