EVANSTON, Ill.—

The parents and friends of a missing Northwestern University pre-med student arrived in Evanston to help police search for the missing student Tuesday.

Sophomore Harsha Maddula, 19, was last seen Saturday morning at a house party several blocks from the university's campus.  He left at 12:30 a.m. and was heading towards his dorm. A friend called him five minutes later and he told her he was home but security cameras show no sign of him and his pass key to get in was never used. Maddula was reported missing Saturday night but campus police, who thought he would show up, didn't start looking until Sunday

Maddula is described as an Indian male with black hair, he`s 5'8" in height and weighs 150lbs.

Maddula was last seen wearing a grey sweater with white and black stitching, grey pants and brown shoes.

Authorities: Body found in harbor missing Northwestern student
10:46 p.m. CDT, September 27, 2012

The body of an 18-year-old Northwestern University student who had been missing for six days was found Thursday evening in Wilmette Harbor, the university announced.

Harsha Maddula, 18, disappeared early Saturday after attending an off-campus party.
Maddula’s body was discovered shortly before 7 p.m. in the water between two boats at Wilmette and near the Sheridan Road Bridge. His wallet, identification and cellphone were found in his pants pocket.

About 6:30 p.m. tonight, a Wilmette resident who did not want to be identified told the Tribune he saw people aboard two small boats pull something out of the waters of the Wilmette Harbor and place it on a stretcher.

Then about 8:10 p.m. a group of people who were wearing life vests carried the stretcher around the side of a U.S. Coast Guard building at the harbor and place it into a Wilmette Fire Department fire ambulance, which left the scene.

A little later, a police officer wearing rubber gloves carried two brown evidence bags, one of which appeared to be wet, and placed them into a squad car.

Northwestern student death ruled an accidental drowning
September 28, 2012 11:40AM
Updated: September 28, 2012 2:18PM

Harsha Maddula, the Northwestern University student whose body was pulled from Wilmette Harbor on Thursday, died as a result of an accidental drowning, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said Friday afternoon.

The medical examiner’s office had no additional information about the circumstances surrounding Maddula’s death.

Earlier Friday, Maddula’s family said that they don’t believe Harsha Maddula killed himself or that his disappearance was related to a rare form of diabetes.

“There is no reason to believe that Harsha was suicidal or that this had anything to do with his diabetic condition,” family spokeswoman and friend Padma Sonti said in a statement to reporters.

Northwestern Student Harsha Maddula's Death Ruled as Drowning
September 29, 2012

 ::snipping2::
"We really have no idea, no clue what could have happened to him," his cousin, Srinu Maddula, told ABC News early Thursday. "It's just out of his character. He's just a good kid, he just likes to study. He really enjoys school and education and work. He doesn't smoke, or drink, or do drugs because of his diabetic condition."

Srinu Maddula said the family has little information about the party that his cousin was attending or what friends he was with on the night of his disappearance.

"We want to make sure this investigation is not over," Sushma Maddula, Harsha Maddula's cousin, told WLS-TV. "Who was Harsha with last? Who did he speak to last? I still do not know...we need to find the answers."
