Scammer says he kidnapped Dylan Redwine
December 10, 2012
FARMINGTON — A man said he kidnapped Dylan Redwine and is asking for money for the 13-year-old’s release.
But the man is lying.
“This is a scam,” La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jim Ezzell said in a statement. “Do not send him money.”
Dylan has been missing since Nov. 19. Dylan’s father, Mark Redwine, said he last saw his son early that morning.
A man who identified himself as Abass Gadafi is claiming on Facebook to be a “boss of a kidnapper gang,” and a new Bayfield, Colo. resident. He said he is holding Dylan captive and will release him for
$5,000 and he will provide a picture of him for $1,000.
The money is to be sent to an account in the United Kingdom via Western Union, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who is contacted by the person to call law enforcement at 970-385-2900.

There is definitely something fishy. I keep going back and forth about the dad. Why would he do something Dylan after fighting to get him there for Thanksgiving. But why if he wanted him so bad would he get up early and leave him home rather than staying home with him. He was only going to be there a few days.
The stories aren't staying constant either. Did Dylan take his back pack and leave or did he leave his back pack. Why was the only place the dogs got a hit was in the water at the lake. If Dylan had spent the night on the couch and had cereal why didn't they get a hit at the dads house. Or have I miss read it.
I want to know more because it doesn't make sense to me either. Dylan's mom said Dylan's dad didn't see him much at all in the last three years before they moved to Colorado Springs, she said she doesn't think that Mark Redwine really even knew Dylan. She's awarded primary custody in September and she says that Mark was upset about that. 9news reported that Dylan testified in family court in September but that testimony is sealed.

REDWINE: Yes. I mean, I just don`t think -- you know, we had joint parenting time. And because, you know, Mark had to earn a living and we live in a small community, he was on the road a lot. So
he didn`t spend a lot of time with Dylan in the three years prior to Dylan moving to Colorado Springs.
So I just don`t think he knew Dylan all that well.

Elaine’s boyfriend, Mike Hall, who lives with the mother in Colorado Springs

“I just hope we can get him back,” Hall said. “We’re very grateful for the support of everyone that’s trying to help in that community.”

If Cory Redwine is 21 as the media has reported, and if I'm calculating correctly he was born in 1991.
Michael Lee Hall also married someone else on October 25, 1991.
So maybe they were just young, and moved on but have found each other again?
Cory Redwine seems to be really close to Mike Hall imo.
And maybe someone else is bound and determined to not allow them to just be one happy family???

I think her taking a poly was just a quick elimination process. I'm sure they felt that something is fishy w/dad and wanted to say they polygraphed all involved. I pray he just has a broken leg and just hasn't been found yet but I'm leaning more toward Dylan getting off the plane, Dad tried to be nice and his child let him know he was none too pleased with his being away from the family he lives with. Natural reaction for a child in this situation but we have proof of Dad's explosive behavior and it went too far. For some reason (maybe because it's Christmas) I am super emotional over these cases. Someone just find all these lost and hurt children and bring them to me and I promise to love and cherish each and everyone of them.

Dylan Redwine's recent disappearance has captured national attention, and while authorities and volunteers continue to search for the missing 13-year-old, the associated expenses continue to mount.
In an effort to help alleviate some of the costs associated with the search, Sunnie Allen, a friend of the Redwine family has started a fundraiser. She specially ordered blue, rubber bracelets that are available for $5 each with all proceeds going toward the cause.
"Dylan's favorite colors are blue and black and the bracelets say, 'Find Dylan Redwine,'" she said. "It's just a reminder to keep it on until he comes home."
Allen said that during the first week she has had them, she has raised more than $700.

Bracelets area available at Keller Williams Realty, 901 Main Street. The receptionist will accept cash or checks made payable to the "Find Dylan Redwine" fund.
Allen said the "Find Dylan Redwine" account also has been established at Wells Fargo Banks to help the family with the costs of the search.

Anyone who may have information on Dylan's whereabouts is asked to contact La Plata County Sheriff's Office Investigator Dan Patterson at 970-382-7015 or Tom Cowing at 970-382-7045.
A tipline also has been set up at 970-382-7511.

KUSA - 9Wants to Know has learned the woman running a Facebook page about missing 13-year-old boy Dylan Redwine had been criticized for her involvement in another missing child case.
Kimberly Kay Bowman admitted to 9News Wednesday that she was the administrator of the Missing Dylan Redwine CMCF page. A post on the page Wednesday night indicated that the site would be deleted at 10 p.m..
Redwine's mother asked Bowman to remove the page saying that she wanted the community to focus on a different community Facebook page about Dylan's disappearance.
Dylan Redwine disappeared from southwestern Colorado on Nov. 19. He was visiting his father in Vallecito for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Last month, Bowman was accused of collecting money for merchandise related to the Jessica Ridgway search against the wishes of the Ridgeway family.

Bowman sent a Facebook message to 9Wants to Know this afternoon: "My efforts are truly driven by my heart and lead by God. Crazy as that sounds to some, it is the way it is," she wrote.

Dyl,
It might seem quiet on the homefront, but rest assured we are working hard!
Your Aunt Lia and I took $5000 that was raised to crimestoppers today to bring your reward amount to $10,000.
All the volunteers are working so hard to do fundraisers so we can keep adding to that! Money talks buddy- and we will keep working and keep adding until it talks loud enough to bring you home!
Everyone misses you so much, and the people that don't even know you are taking time out of their day to talk about you. It's amazing! Everyone on this planet is going to know your face! That's how we are going to bring you home!
DON'T GIVE UP ON US! WE AREN'T GIVING UP ON YOU! NEVER LOSS HOPE!
Luv ya buddy! We can't wait until you get home!

Money raised will support efforts to find missing teen

SHAUN STANLEY/Durango Herald
Megan Stumpf, 6, attaches a missing sticker to her shirt while waiting in line for dinner Tuesday evening at Pine Valley Church in Bayfield during a benefit dinner and silent auction to support efforts to find missing 13-year-old Dylan Redwine. Megan’s brother, Colton Stumpf, was in the same grade as Dylan when Dylan attended school in Bayfield.
Barely a parking space could be found Tuesday night outside Pine Valley Church where the town held a benefit dinner for Dylan Redwine, the 13-year-old who has been missing since Nov. 19.
Organizers estimated more than 800 people attended the spaghetti dinner, silent auction and raffle, an impressive number made all the more remarkable considering the town’s population hovers around 2,000.
“I don’t even have a word for it,” said Denise Hess, a close friend of the Redwines who helped organize the event. “Amazing. Phenomenally amazing.”
A handful of organizers pulled together the event in about a week, soliciting donations of food, drinks, products and services from across the county.
Local business owners responded in full force, donating more than 200 items including gift baskets for silent auction, a $350 watch that was raffled off, meat for the spaghetti dinner and 500 pieces of bread.
One of the unofficial head cooks for the event, who didn’t want to give her name, said she spent 48 hours cooking pasta. An Ignacio restaurant owner spent her only day off making 820 meatballs.
Elaine Redwine, Dylan’s mother, was at the dinner and Cory Redwine, Dylan’s 21-year-old brother, flew in from Colorado Springs.
“I’m flabbergasted to see all the people here; they’ve blown my mind,” Cory Redwine said. “Sometimes it’s hard being in a small community, but in moments like this, it’s awesome.”
Organizers didn’t have a final tally of proceeds when the event came to a close, but Hess said all the money will go to the “Find Dylan Redwine Fund.” Nothing has been taken out of the fund yet, but Hess said it could be used for anything from hiring private investigators to offering a higher reward for Dylan’s return.
“Whatever it takes to bring him home,” she said.
The event was bittersweet for many of Dylan’s friends.

Nothing from LE in quite a while, and other than FB sharing of Dylan's photo/info and fundraising efforts; it seems like everything has gone quiet.

I agree with melisb, I think ER was asked to take the poly just to cover all bases in the process of elimination. If the glimpse of the court records we've seen is any example, I'm thinking the accusations were probably not just coming from one side.
She may have also volunteered to take it, while insisting that MR take it! I know if my child were missing I would!

In the "join the conversation" below the video at the link, there is a person that has been making the same nasty accusations about Dylan's mom on a few FB pages. She claims that her mother is Mark Redwine's best friend. I don't believe her statements and I'm choosing NOT to bring those comments here. Go to the link and read them if you'd like. But I do think the response posted by Katt Hawkins is important. She is a close friend of Elaine Redwine and from my understanding also of Mark Redwine. From my understanding, she is the one that started the FB page for Dylan, and has worked tirelessly doing everything she can to help since day one. IMO, she knows what she's talking about, and I think her statements give a little more insight into some of what has been going on.

7. Nobody was lying or hiding where they were
8. Elaine filed a motion in July to relocate to Co. Springs (verified court records)
9. Mark disputed the motion (verified court records)
10. Elaine was forced to file emergency relocation so Dylan could start school (verified court records)
11. Courts grant permission for Dylan to start school in Colorado Springs (verified court records)
12. Court order issued allowing Elaine to relocate Dylan Sept 25.
13. Mom left Co. Springs as soon as she knew Dylan was missing
14. Mark has 3 grown son’s who have nothing to do with him- 2 of them by another mother. Who alienated who?
15. No one has said that Mark didn’t try to text or call Dylan
16. Dylan was seen with NO ONE – there have been no verified sightings of Dylan since Wal-mart Sunday night.
17. True the police must have a search warrant to search and it’s logical to search the last known where abouts of the child – happens all the time in missing cases
18. What kind of “Gold” do you think Elaine is trying to get from Mark? She was the bread winner.
19. No one told Mark to stay home. And yes he has been on searches as well as Elaine.
20. Everyone in Mark’s life and Elaine’s life has been questioned and some even polygraphed. It’s a normal process of working a missing case.
21. Elaine had moved on with her life, gave Mark both houses in La Plata County and moved to Colorado Springs to start over and was very happy, why would she need to hurt Mark?
Maybe you should check your facts before you spout of like a lunatic. It’s people like you that can be damaging to any case. You are the only one pointing the finger and slandering.

I've seen her posts on FB and had put together that she is the mother of Mark Redwine's other son's. Reading her posts on FB had already made an impression on me. I think she is terribly concerned for Dylan. I'm thankful that she had the courage to take this step and put more of her knowledge and experience with Mark Redwine on the table over at Websleuths.

I have held my breath long enough, let me introduce myself, I am MR's first ex wife. I joined this website because I saw that you all were looking up information on my children. They are innocent, they are hurting, they are real.
Go for it, check me out, email me, google me, do whatever you want. My name is Elizabeth J Roser, it changed to Redwine after we got divorced and it is now Horvath.
Let me tell you something about MR, the mods can stop me, but honestly I am absolutely sick by all of this.
We did not have the perfect marriage, young, niave, whatever. But he did act like a father to my daughter, we created two wonderful, beautiful, caring boys. He was not nice, he is a manipulator, a con artist and an abuser.
I'm done being nice, I'm done being evasive. I will allow all of you to look up our court records, look up our police reports. Mark is NOT a nice person. I'll go to court and defend that statement. There is not enough time or space for me to say what all he did to me and my children.
Have any of you wondered why two of his children refuse to talk to him, but they have a connection with Elaine? That is because she was the person that I felt would care for my children, would make sure they were taken care of. I have not spent a lot of time with her, but I can tell you this, I would trust her with my grandchildren any time, any day, any where. But I sure as heck would not Mark to even know they exist.
Did any of you wonder why it was that he never particpated in a search until AFTER the media was involved. Why his comments are directed toward Elaine knowing everything vs where is my son? The guy is nuts! He abused me, check the records, he abused our children, check the records. I have no doubt that Mark did something IMO.
I don't know all the rules on this site, I don't know if I'm out of line. I just don't know. But what I can tell you is that I have children, (yes they are adults) and grandchildren, that know this man more than any of you will ever know him. They are scared for Dylan, they hurt for Dylan and they worry about Dylan. I as a mother, cry, pray and hurt for Elaine each and every second of every day. Ask yourselves, why would WE, people that Mark has not been involved with (oh other than to sign over custody of his two children) in over 8 years care more about this than Mark.
As an FYI, Mark and I just got done with court in about 2003 or 2004 and we divorced in 1989. He finally gave up his parental rights to his children, as long as I forego the $40000 + in unpaid child support.
He is a smoot operator and knows how to work people, just be careful.

Gosh dang it, I'm having so many pc troubles. If anyone can tell me how to get to recent and current threads, I would appreciate it.
I didn't see all the comments but I do want to be open to everyone.
I put myself out there tonight, I have everything to lose and absolutely nothing to gain. It doesn't change my day one bit if you believe me or not, but ask yourself, why would I give you permission to look me up, to dig up the good/bad/ugly on myself, why would I give your my names if I had something to hide?
My whole entire point is to let you know that MR is not the calm, cool, collected person he shows you on tv. Look at his comments, thought out, rehearsed, condensending.
I have a couple of focuses here, find Dylan and this my primary focus. I spend hours upon hours reading everything I can hoping and waiting for something that might help us bring him home. My second focus is my children, they are innocent and they have children, they don't need to worry about people searching them on top of what they are currently going through. Thankfully the moderators requested that be stopped.
Earlier someone asked about him giving up the parental rights. That was a decision made by me, my husband at the time and my children. Mark accepted it. At that time my kids were going through some pretty intense counseling because of MR and dealings with him. It was an option I knew he would take so we offered it. I will add that to this day his attorney has not filed the paperwork with the courts to complete the process, the only part that was completed was the CSobligation was no longer there. My kids were never able to be adopted by the father that they know & love.
Abuse, yes it was there, more on me than on the kids. You have to keep in mind that an abused woman sees life in a light that others can't imagine, noone wants you, noone loves you, you are worthless, etc. etc. There is alienation from your family, so many different things work into the lifestyle, slowly and before you know it, it's a part of life and you don't realize it's wrong. I will say that when I left it was 100% for the safety and well being of my children, I wasn't strong but they made me strong.
Bash away if you would like. As I mentioned, I have nothing to gain. I have a wonderful and happy life. MR is my past and gladly kept there, it is this situation, Dylan missing, that has brought him to my present and I would give anything on Gods green earth to not have that.
Perhaps with some insight into who MR is/was then you can focus on important things like where Dylan is and how to bring him home. With blinders on, you only see down one road, now you have more roads to look at.

Thank you so very much for those wonderful and kind words. The pain that my children are going through is nothing compared to what ER and CR are going through and they very well know and understand that. Our focus is Dylan, once he is home safe and sound then we can work on the other challenges being put before all of us, but for now, Dylan needs to be home, comfy and cozy in a bed and trying to figure out his Christmas gifts.
I didn't go back to find this original post, it was quoted here...but I thought it was interesting too.

I was personally in this situation, my children were ordered to visit their parent and absolutely did NOT want to. The NCP made it more difficult by changing the flight to an extended time period and completely different dates. My attorney got an emergency hearing (so emergency it was conducted over the phone) the judge simply said that if I did not comply I would go to jail, period, end of discussion.
He based his decission on what he felt was best for the children (time with the other parent) and discounted the games played by the NCP even before the children left as a sign of non-compliance and contempt.
She had no choice.

Prayer vigil held for missing 13-year-old boy
December 03, 2012 1:00 AM
By John Schroyer
The Gazette
::snipping2::
The Lewis-Palmer Middle School student was described by friends and family as an energetic and outgoing boy, who was able to build a solid group of friends in the area even though he and his mother had only moved to town a few months ago.
“He’s just a little doll,” said Nancy Gephord, Dylan’s step-grandmother. “He was so full of life.”
Gephord said Dylan’s charisma captured the heart of the puppy he’d gotten in August. The dog would follow him around and wouldn’t pay heed to anyone else.
“He followed Dylan everywhere,” Gephord said, her eyes misting.
At the Sunday gathering, people shared memories about the boy and voiced prayers for his safe return.
Zack Stowell, 14, was a classmate of Dylan’s. When asked about Dylan, Stowell said with a small grin that Dylan was popular in a lot of circles, and was one of the kids who could always nail “the popular kids in gym class, when we were playing dodgeball.”
“He’s one of those kids who was good at everything,” Stowell said.
Nicole Yost, 30, one of Dylan’s cousins, said the missing boy was “super, super sweet,” and recalled how Dylan played Spider-Man with his younger cousins, even though entertaining the 3- and 5-year-old.
Yost talked with both a smile on her face and tears in her eyes about how Dylan’s favorite band was Puddle of Mudd, and that when he was three years old, he had memorized their song “Blurry.”
“He used to sing it at the top of his lungs when we’d go online and put the video on,” Yost recalled with a quiet laugh.
Maria Goodall, Dylan’s grandmother, said the family didn’t care how Dylan went missing as long as he comes back safely.
“We just want him back. No questions asked,” Goodall said. “I can’t sleep. I can’t eat. I can’t do anything. He has to come home.”
Dylan’s disappearance shook even those who barely knew him in the small town.
Kathy Kemp, a Monument mother who ran the vigil and spoke about the tragedy, said she’d never even met Dylan.
“This is a small community. That makes him family,” she told the gathering.
Dylan’s mother Elaine Redwine wasn’t at the vigil, but she had sent a note to Kemp, which she read solemnly to the gathering.
“Dylan loved the school and the friends he made,” Kemp read. “Don’t lose hope. He’s out there somewhere.”
