I'm afraid that sort of thing is pretty common in the U.S., too.

There have been convicted criminals (of the organized crime type) who are able to run their drug rings from prison because they have enough money to bribe the guards to let them use cell phones, prison phone.

I think there was once even a credit card number theft operation that was being run by guards and inmates in a prison here.

So the U.S. is probably no better in this regard.

But there is a big difference in charged (and under investigation) vs convicted

There is a guy posting on the Trip Advisor forum as "wayback" who claimed that he can CALL JORAN IN THE JAIL! He said all you have to do is leave a message and that the "prisoner" LOL can return the call!

I read that when it was first posted...I don't think the guy claims that he talked to joran...
