Bill, I think it must be one of the most boring studies in the whole wide world. Especially Civil Law. Couldn't muster up any sense of interest.

Vorpman, what world is that, that they don't do shit?
.

They do things "their way" as an institution.  Local and State law enforcement, as well as other Federal agencies, don't particular like working with them.

Vorpman, I just hope that they will handle the forensics evidence. Because a place where I will join in the bashing of Aruban cops is that.

My guess, arubagirl, is that your police/prosecution/authorities are handling the investigation and taking charge. they're probably keeping the FBI on a short leash. FBI is probably trying to do the diplomat thing and make suggestions and are offering to help in all areas.

but it's human nature to have pride on your home turf. I mean, really, I just don't think Aruban/Dutch authorities are going to step back and tell the FBI to take the lead -- even knowing they have more experience. And that's the unfortunate thing. The FBI is far from perfect, but they do have quite a bit of experience and technology to help them do their job.

I think the scene at the Marriott today was a good example. There is NO WAY the FBI would allow a potential crime scene to be contaminated the way it was, for possible evidence to be handled that way. I think they were there assisting as much as Aruban authorities would let them, but it doesn't seem they were in charge of it.

If the FBI were in charge, they would have been out at the Marriott first thing this morning, knowing Mickey had named that as a possible sight of Natalee being there.

I'm not sure who posted about the history of the FBI with local authorities...please clarify what you are saying?

Fact is, the FBI can only be called in to "work" a case under certain conditions.  The FBI can't just waltz in and take over...even in this country.

Again, the FBI is not in charge down there.  They aren't making the decisions.

From what I understand it's the other way around.  The FBI are there as guests and are not in charge of the investigation.  From what I've read, the FBI has to bow to the local authorities and are only involved...when they're asked to be.

exactly how i understand it too, we have no priority there, makes sense though!

there becomes a point in life where you have to free the dove, and in my opinion, 18 is at that time, i have a 13 and 16 year old, and even though this has happen, and we dont have answers, i will NOT bound my kids for a life time.  I will warn then, look over them, but I will not hold their hands!

That is right on, alabama_mom.  I can remember calling my Mom from the navy recruiter's office, saying goodbye, and my dad getting on the phone saying, "I won't sign for you!"

I just said, I am 18, and I don't need anyone to sign sign for me no more.  I can't imagine how much that must have hurt them, but I have no regrets.  I'd do it again!

Raising my own kids (sons) I always understood that, and tried to meat out discipline and love.  For one day, they might say, "I don't need you!"

He spent a ton of money on prosecuting weirdo Jackson.  California knows how to waste money.  I'll let you know when they get back to Aruba story.

The best part of the FBI is the lab and forensics they can do.

I doubt they were called to "handle forensics" because logically Aruba wants to keep control over the case.  I do think the FBI requested DNA be tested in a lab in the USA along with a foreign lab.  Whether they are involved in protecting the chain of evidence, etc.  I have no idea.

Let the FBI handle everything.

Tomorrow I'm going to see my cousin, who's a cop. Will be pumping her for info, if she has any.

Yup, I'm here... We're talking more about stuff happening in Aruba now, so I'm just reading, since I am completely clueless.  I hope they figure something out soon.
