Amber Alert continues for missing San Antonio baby
December 18, 2012

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
Police issued an Amber Alert Monday for an 11-month-old boy they say was abducted by his father after a deadly shooting last week.

San Antonio police believe Jonathan Jose Guillen, Jr., who celebrates his first birthday next month, is in grave or immediate danger.

His 23-year-old father, Jonathan Jose Guillen, Sr., is suspected of killing his mother's estranged boyfriend last Thursday. Police say Guillen ran away from the shooting scene at the Oak Meadows Apartments in northeast San Antonio with his child.

But Guillen and his baby have not been seen since.

San Antonio police issued the alert on Monday, saying the two were last seen in a black 2002 Chevy Trailblazer with Texas license plate #7CZTJ.

The baby was wearing blue jeans and a hooded sweatshirt when he disappeared. He weighs about 25 lbs. and has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Murder Suspect's Mom Opens Up
December 19, 2012

A woman who says her son killed her boyfriend is opening up about what happened.

Lisa Martinez's grandson is the subject of an Amber Alert.

11-month old Jonathan Guillen, Jr., has been missing since last Thursday.

She says her son Jonathan Guillen, Sr. took the baby after killing her boyfriend at the Oak Manor Apartments on Austin Highway.

Martinez says Guillen shot Ernest Garcia after Garcia assaulted Guillen's mother and refused to leave her apartment.

Martinez said, "And then Jonathan told Ernest I already told you about putting your hands on my mom. I'm not going to stand for this, you need to get out."

Martinez says Guillen then shot Garcia twice, killing him, before grabbing the baby and leaving.

Woman says she does not believe mother of suspect that killed man and took baby
December 20, 2012

On Wednesday, a woman who had an on-again-off-again relationship with a man who was killed last Thursday during a domestic fight, that resulted in an abduction of a baby, does not believe that the witness to the event is telling the whole truth.

Valerie Martinez Casillas, a woman who knew the man who was killed, Ernest Garcia, for 18 years, spoke with the Examiner exclusively. Casillas states that she does not believe that Lisa Martinez, who the media is calling Garcia's girlfriend, is telling exactly what happened.

Although Casillas was not there during the incident, she says that her "heart says she [Lisa Martinez] is not telling the truth," about what happened during the altercation that resulted in the death of Garcia.

According to KENS 5 news, Lisa Martinez told the police that Ernest Garcia, 44, was drunk and wouldn't stop hitting her while they were arguing on Thursday in her home on the 2300 block of Austin Highway in San Antonio, Texas. Martinez' son, Jonathan Guillen, Sr., 23, was there during the incident while his 11-month-old son slept in the other room. Guillen confronted Garcia and Martinez stated that Guillen told him to leave, but instead he came towards Guillen and Guillen shot him. When Garcia continued to keep coming towards him, Guillen shot him again. While Martinez was by Garcia's side, Guillen left taking his son, Jonathan Guillen, Jr. with him. Later the police issued an Amber Alert for the baby.

While the search is on for Guillen Sr. and Guillen, Jr., new information has come to light that sheds doubt that the baby is Guillen's biological son, stated the San Antonio Police to Fox 29, although they would not elaborate on what that new information was.

"The information early on there was no direct threat being made from that suspect to the child and now I am told that there is information in the investigation that leads us to believe there is a direct threat to the child," said Sgt. Javier Salazar of the San Antonio Police Dept.

Fox 29 talked to the family of the baby's mother. They told Fox 29 they would not talk on camera because they were afraid that Guillen might come after them or the baby's mother. They also said that the baby's mother is extremely concerned about her son, and is working with the police to find him.

On Tuesday, the car that the police believe Guillen was driving was found in the apartment complex where Lisa Martinez lives, reports My San Antonio news.

Initially the police released an Amber Alert saying Guillen took the baby in a black Chevy Trailblazer, but Martinez told WOIA news that he did not take the car.

"My vehicle, he never took it. First of all, he doesn't know how to drive," said Martinez.

The vehicle was found later in the parking lot of the apartment complex reported WOIA news. It is unclear whether Guillen left on foot or got into an unknown car and left.

Guillen is wanted by police on a murder warrant for allegedly fatally shooting Garcia, and the Amber Alert for the baby is still in effect, but the vehicle has been removed.

I got an alert on my cell phone through this service.  It gives a choice (opt out) whether to receive more alerts in the future.

NCMEC Issues First AMBER Alert Through IPAWS CMAS/WEA
December 19, 2012

On Tuesday, December 18, residents in Texas received the first AMBER alert issued through IPAWS' CMAS/WEA system.  The alert was issued in cooperation with the San Antonio Police Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
According to media reports, police say Jonathan Guillen, 23, abducted his son, Jonathan Jose Guillen Jr., after Guillen shot and killed the child's mother's boyfriend last Thursday.  Soon after the alert was issued, police say the car in which the child was last seen had been located, though the child has apparently not yet been found.
Just a few days ago, CTIA-The Wireless Association, The Wireless Foundation, NCMEC and Syniverse announced that on Dec. 31, 2012, the Wireless AMBER Alert program will end operations as a part of the nation’s transition to the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) program.
The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) program is managed by FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) office.  Major mobile carriers are volunteering their participation in the program which gives alerting authorities the ability to send geographically targeted, text-like messages to WEA-capable mobile devices without the need for recipient sign ups.

Murder suspect found, son safe
December 27, 2012

A man who sparked an Amber Alert when he fled with his 11-month-old son after the fatal shooting of his mother's boyfriend is behind bars thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip.

Jonathan Jose Guillen Sr., 23, faces a murder charge in the Dec. 13 death of Ernest Garcia, 44.He's being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

He was found with the baby, Jonathan Guillen Jr., at a home in the 200 block of Carmen Place on the West Side, said police spokesman Officer Matthew Porter.

“He gave the baby to the sergeant and was taken into custody without incident,” Porter said.

The child is now in the care of a family member, Porter said.

As Guillen was headed to jail Wednesday night, he didn't talk about Garcia but did mention his child.

“I want to tell my infant son that I love you with all my heart,” he said.

Authorities have been searching for the pair since Garcia's slaying. Police suspect Guillen of shooting him in anger after Garcia hit Guillen's mother, Lisa Martinez, because he saw a hickey on her neck.
