Jodi Arias attempts to explain away lies
February 25, 2013

PHOENIX (AP) — Jodi Arias calmly tried to explain away her lies Monday as a prosecutor in her Arizona murder trial hammered her about not being honest with authorities, friends or family, even sending the victim's grandmother flowers after she killed him, all in an attempt to throw off suspicion and avoid being charged.

Arias said she lied because she was ashamed of having killed her lover, Travis Alexander, in self-defense. Arias also said she didn't want details of their raunchy sexual relationship to be revealed, in part because Alexander lived a public life as a devout Mormon saving himself for marriage but privately was seeing multiple women romantically.
 ::snipping2::
Arias first told authorities she knew nothing about Alexander's death, then later blamed it on masked intruders before eventually settling on self-defense.

She told Alexander's friends and family the same stories after her arrest, even sending 20 white irises to the victim's grandmother, along with an 18-page letter to his family, expressing sympathy for their loss.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez then played a video clip for jurors of an interview Arias did with CBS's "48 Hours" in July 2008 while she was in jail.

"Travis' family deserves to know what happened," Arias said on the tape.

"They did deserve to know what happened but did they deserve that lie?" Martinez asked Monday, noting at the time of the interview that she was still sticking to the story about the intruders killing Alexander.

"I guess not," Arias replied.

Martinez also noted that Arias immediately began planning an alibi after she killed Alexander, leaving a message on his mobile phone and going to visit a man in Utah who she kissed and cuddled with in his bed just hours after the attack.

When Alexander's body was found days later, Arias began making calls — to police, to friends, to her Mormon bishop — all to figure out what authorities knew and whether "anybody was onto you," Martinez pointed out.

"Partially, yes," Arias said, but she again repeated that she didn't recall much from the day of the killing.

I thought that was nothing short of evil.      At the time, Travis's grandmother may not have known Jodi was responsible for his death, but later on, it had to have had impact when she found out.       JMHO

That nurmi drove me nuts listening to him. Made me sick to hear him trash this poor heinously murdered man. Kind of reminded me of jose baez spinning all that bs. Defense attorneys in general make me sick. I realize someone has to do it but i wonder how they live with themselves defending such obviously evil & guilty people. I love watching that skank squirm . I would enjoy watching him be meaner to her. She deserves every ounce of humiliation she endures. I doubt very highly that she will get the punishment she deserves so every little bit helps. The fact that she went & hopped on some other guy after butchering another human makes me want to vomit. How can someone just function like that after doing that?

Jodi Arias Claims Innocence on Charge That Carries Death Penalty
February 25, 2013

(2pgs)
 ::snipping2::
Today, prosecutors hammered Arias about her lying, getting her to admit to lies she told and playing video of her police interrogation and a TV interview in which she told stories that she has since conceded were not true.
In an interview with NBC's "48 Hours," Arias said she smiled for her mug shot partly because she knew she was innocent.

"You truly believe that you didn't do anything wrong here?" the prosecutor asked incredulously.

"I believed that I knew that I was not guilty of first-degree murder and I did plan to be dead," she replied, a reference to her claim that she planned to commit suicide.
 ::snipping2::
During a day of contentious questions and answers between Martinez and Arias, the prosecutor used Arias' own diary entries and text messages to show contradictions of her claims that Alexander was abusive toward her, that he hit her and tried to choke her.

Arias said that in early 2008, Alexander hit her in the neck while they were riding in his car. Martinez showed a diary entry describing the day they rode in the car, and there was no mention of physical violence.

"This entry does not corroborate what you told us happened in the car," he said. "With regard to the (choking incident) you didn't call police. You didn't tell anyone about it. There is no corroboration anywhere in your journal. All we have is your word. Are there photos? Any other writings? Is there a police report? Is there a medical report?"

Arias said there was no evidence that the alleged abuse happened, except for her testimony in court.

"There's no evidence because it didn't happen, did it ma'am?" Martinez yelled.

Arias said that she had told one person about the abuse she claims she suffered at the hands of Alexander, and that it was another ex-boyfriend, Matthew McCartney. But when pressed for details about the conversation in which she told him, Arias became confused and changed her answers.

"I saw (Matt) a few days later, and he called me out on the bruises," Arias testified.

"Where?"

"Over the phone, just days after I think," she said.

"Isn't it true he wouldn't have been able to see your injuries because you were talking over the telephone?"

"No, I was in Yreka (California) by then. I stopped to see Matt after I left Arizona. Let's see, I believe it was two or three days after. I'm not saying there was no telephone call, (but) it was at his house. I went and saw Matt, and some make-up wore off, and he confronted me on (the bruises)."

Martinez said that McCartney has denied the conversation ever took place.
The argument mounted by Martinez today echoed the focus of the prosecution throughout the trial: that Arias murdered Alexander and then lied to everyone about it to evade arrest and prosecution.

Soooo, MM called her out on her injuries, hmmmm?

This MM, an ex who cheated on JA, JA confronted the new GF, and she still keeps in contact with him years later...

MM was somehow involved with the forgeries of the alleged confession of TA stating he like boys.

The coded magazines JA was trying to get realeased, were to be given to MM.

The night before she assassinates Travis, she spends the night with MM.

I wonder what else this guy is involved in~ since JM got JA to specifically state MM would "never betray her" in court today........

Plea deal here?

Should be interesting to hear what this guy has to say. I think he should be thanking his lucky stars that it wasnt him she flipped on. He should distance himself from her before she drags him down with her. I dont buy that he witnessed injuries to her because i dont think they happened. What an idiot if he lues for her. What does he have to hide by protecting her if he does?

Should be VERY interesting!!

More to the point, what does he gain?  A plea deal?

The state is looking for the death penalty- what, pray-tell, information is this guy sitting on that would benefit the prosecution's case and get them to offer him a plea deal?

Was he an eye witness to Travis Alexander's brutal murder?
Was he an accomplice and co-conspirator, of JA's, in the murder of Travis Alexander?

She spent the night with him the night before, with him and his room mate.

This girl is a nutjob.
