I think that Juan needs to tone it down with witnesses too...I have rolled my eyes a few times myself at him and said, he better watch it.... Especially when he says, I am not asking you that, now did I...? he sounds condescending and a bully.
I don't want this case to go south because of his attitude...jmo..

The defense has been just awful about how they are presenting their case in trashing Travis..hopefully the jury will also see through this as well..

"I am not asking you that, now did I...?" doesn't really bother me because a lot of times they are trying to evade the question by explaining something that furthers their agenda but isn't a direct answer to the question.

For me it would get frustrating as a juror to have the witness purposely not answer the question given and be evasive.
Juan martinez kind of reminds me of jeff ashton but a little feistier. I think as a prosecutor it is probably frustrating dealing with defense attorneys & paid experts who couldnt care less about justice for the victim. Awww poor jodi cant sleep or adjust in prison! But poor travis cant breathe & live because of her psycho azz. I will never understand how the people that defend these monsters can live with some of the tactics they use. I think we should wallpaper their bedrooms in the crime scene photos so they can remember just what theyre defending. I know everyone has a right to a competent defense but i feel like if u commit a crime that heinous, u have lost all human rights.

Hi Monks!
I got sucked in to keeping up with this trial.. Travis needs justice.
Just a few things about Dr  Samuels.
Dr Samuels is not that smart. He is a paid gun who will say what he is paid to say. I know so many Dr Samuels in my field. They get greedy and seduced by the cash. He saw her 12 times? really?? Between the interview of the patient, which includes taking a history and handing out the psych tests and then assessing the computerized results, it would not take that many visits. 1 day to chat..1 day to hand it out...1 day to collect it and then then run alot of it thru a computer......and his diagnosis of PTSD is laughable... and he is being laughed at by his peers... he sure is......clown

If there's one person on the jury who knows their way around a courtroom they will know Juan's approach is unprofessional and crossed legal boundaries.  If there are any jurists who are even a little sympathetic toward Jodi, Juan Martinez has just pushed them a little further in that direction.  If there are any jurists who have been abused and do see Jodi as a victim who needed to invoke self defense, Juan Martinez just lost the death penalty or a first degree conviction with his arrogance and bullying of the expert witness.

I personally don't think it's ever okay as an attorney to clip a recorded conversation during a trial to win your case when that clip portrays the opposite of what the witness actually said.  I also don't think it's ever okay to direct that kind of bullying rabid behavior toward anyone who hasn't hurt you in some way, let alone a witness trapped on the stand.  It makes me wonder how he treats people in life.

agree...however, his tone is a bit condescending.. imo.. he could say it in a different fashion. i just really don't want the jury to turn on him.
i like his fire and he obviously is passionate about sending butcher Jodi to the death penalty. which she deserves but probably won"t get...

Completely agree with you, flamom.  I know folks who were evaluated in a custody case.  One 5-6 hour day for testing and two short interview visits.

Dr. Samuels is clearly a paid and biased expert.

This witness chose to be there. Remember that. He chose to sit up there & make a mockery of ptsd & his profession imo. I would hope the jury would forgive his over the top displays sometimes & remember all of the vile crap this defense team has thrown out about a man who isnt here to defend himself, vile crap that iscompletely unsubstantiated. I didnt see where he played the recording & i dont condone it, however, it is miniscule in comparison to the lies this defense team has told. I was actually judging dr samuels on his own spoken words. He said on the stand that she was marked no for trouble sleeping then turned around & said she has trouble sleeping. Cant be both just to fit his needs at the momrnt. I would also think that if anyone on that jury has been abused they will see this crap as the farce thst it is & be insulted by it.

Amysister I must withhold my judgement of Juan Martinez for now. What I saw in clips from the start of the trial I did not like him or anything about him. He has grown on me alot. Sometimes these expert witnesses do not answer the questions and are very well versed at deception and require different approaches to fluster them and trip them up...  he gave her a book? never in my career did a psychologist give a book to someone he was doing an eval. on... they are in and out.. next case next check..

I agree mostly but Dr Samuels is not the defense team and the defense team is not Jodi Arias.  Jodi was the one telling lies and she's the one who murdered an innocent man not the people representing her as required by our constitution.

Dr Samuels did mark no when the questionnaire asked if Jodi was having trouble sleeping.  The defense showed, and the portion of the tape Juan Martinez didn't play would also have shown, that Jodi was prescribed lorazepam as a sleep aid, proving that she was in fact having trouble sleeping.  The doctor marked 'no' on the test because as a result of the prescription she was no longer having trouble sleeping.

Juan lied, made accusations against the doctor which were prejudicial and could not be proven, and he uses bullying tactics, something a previously or currently abused juror would find horrifying.

It doesn't make Jodi or her defense right but Juan has a higher standard in trying to prove Jodi deserves death and he needs to chill the eff out IMO and let the facts and evidence stand without all the dramatics.

I see this not so ethical psychologist getting a fanny slapping and I hope it sends a message to others who want to fudge and BS their way to the teller's window. He wasn't a treating therapist with deep therapeutic involvement. He could not even do the eval. properly... imo he's just a hired mouthpiece with the proper degree...he got what he got from juan.. and now he will go cash his check and work another case....

Hugs to u janet. I hope everything is going to be ok.

Thanks kcrn.

I am trusting God that it will.  However ... it will take time.

My nephew attempted to take his own life last week.  This young man has a good job, lovely wife and three great kids.  At this point in time my brother and sister-in-law are devastated.  Hubby and I are taking them for a drive up to Whistler today.  Maybe the getaway and the beautiful scenery will give them renewed strength.

Anyways ... when I return this evening ... I will be anticipating updates on the Jodi Arias trial.

Have a good day all!

Janet

Janet,
I am doing a 24 hour prayer with some people and I will put your nephew & your family on our prayers.

I noticed that too. It feels like Dick uses avoidance by emblishment of the question asked.
It's interesting watching Martinez give him rope at times and letting Dick just talk on and on and then says,
but I didn't ask you that did I? I could not be a juror because I would bust out laughing.

I don't know.  My sense is Dr Samuels will not be getting work anytime soon as a result of this case.  I doubt anyone would read a book written by him either.  His career is pretty much over IMO.

I think most of us here feel this way about that man.

I also think Juan Martinez thinks Dr. Samuels was attracted to her, thus the sending of greeting cards and a book.

Perhaps he saw her 12 times because he was attracted to her. Or because he needed to see her that many times because he is not very bright. Or a combination of the two.

It annoys the heck out of me when Jodi and her attorney dress in the same color.

I know it is intentional, to make Jodi look more like a "respectable" person.

Still annoys the heck out of me.
