I'm grateful for those who were on the jury that were prepared to stand their ground for the death penalty. Had they been concerned only with the Holiday, they could have settled for life to reach agreement.

We saw how scared Jodi was that she was about to here a verdict of death. Hopefully, she will hear it before long, and when she does, I hope that it wipes that smirk off of Willmot's face, because I saw one, today.

I have gratitude for this jury.  They paid attention for many months during a trial filled with BS, delays, lies, hot headed attornies, ridiculous stories, and a grieving family right next to them the entire time.  Their lives have been put on hold and they still took time to deliberate life or death.  I believe that a person can believe they could agree to a death penalty but when it comes right down to it they find that they cannot.  Maybe one or two jurists really believe that Travis was abusive and they cannot get past that.

It is clear the jury did not take her guilt or sentencing lightly and I wish them all well and thank them for their service.

Jodi will most likely wind up with LWOP and she will suffer.

I saw it, too.  I was waiting for Jodi to do it but she was somehow able to hold it back.  Jodi's eyes were smirking, though.

Do you think Wilmott & Nurmi will continue as defense counsel since they have tried to get
themselves removed several times?

Well stated, and I totally agree.

I also think she will probably end up with LWOP. At least she won't see the light of day, if that is the case.

Did anyone else notice the "wince" Jodi gave when the judge said the jury could now talk about the case? She doesn't like the idea that anybody's perspective except hers, would hit the airwaves, IMO.

Hopefully the Jury will hear Jodi's interviews yesterday when she said they didn't give her a fair trial.

Great question, Kermit! I don't know but I guess I hope so. I would think that things could get really delayed if a new defense team were assigned to it. They'd make the argument that they need time to get up to speed.

Good question Kermit.  They have both wanted off the case. It seems they ask to be removed at least weekly.

Judge declares mistrial in penalty phase of Jodi Arias trial
May 23, 2013
PHOENIX –  The jury in Jodi Arias' murder trial was dismissed Thursday after failing to reach a verdict against the woman they convicted of murdering her one-time boyfriend in a case that captured headlines worldwide with its sex, lies, violence.

A new panel likely will be seated to try again to reach a decision on a sentence -- unless the prosecutor takes death off the table agrees to a life sentence. The judge scheduled a retrial for July 18.

The jury began deliberating Tuesday and first reported it had failed to reach a unanimous decision the next day. Stephens instructed the jurors to keep trying.

The same panel on May 8 found Arias guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Alexander, who was stabbed and slashed nearly 30 times and nearly decapitated at his Mesa home. The jury later determined the killing was cruel enough to merit consideration of the death penalty.

Under Arizona law, a hung jury in the death penalty phase of a trial requires a new jury to be seated to decide the punishment. If the second jury cannot reach a unanimous decision, the judge would then sentence Arias to spend her entire life in prison or be eligible for release after 25 years. The judge cannot sentence Arias to death.

Former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has said the case could drag on for several more months as the new jury reviews evidence and hears opening statements, closing arguments and witness testimony in a "Cliffs Notes" version of the trial.

However, if the prosecutor decides not to pursue the death penalty a second time, the judge would then sentence Arias to one of the life in prison options, and the trial would come to a conclusion.
