New jury to decide Jodi Arias' fate after penalty phase mistrial
updated 8:35 PM EDT, Thu May 23, 2013

In a written statement, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said prosecutors "will proceed with the intent to retry the penalty phase."

"We appreciate the jury's work in the guilt and aggravation phases of the trial and now we will assess, based upon available information, what the next steps will be," he said.

Thank you everyone for the updates today.  It was very disappointing that the jury could not come to a unanimous decision today, but it was not a final decision--it's not finished.  My prayers for the Travis' family; they must be devastated.

Someone told me today that four jurors left the jury room for a break or lunch.  Could that be a hint at the roadblock in the decision?  Just thinking out loud.

Maybe the next jurors will be. Bi more savvy since they will have more info and will have watched Jodi's interviews...
How could they have a Hung jury? Apparently someone on the jury did not really believe in the death  penalty or else Jodi would have been put to death.
My heart goes out to Travis's family and to Juan. The judge was even upset.

Just to add, I am happy that the jury did find her guilty...it is not over yet.

The jury breakdown was 8 for death, 4 for life.

That was an impossible breakdown to hope for a verdict.

Does anyone know if there is a fund set up for the Alexander family, to help defer the expenses they incurred while attending the trial? That might be something the public could help with while we hope and wait for full justice.

I feel pretty sad for the Alexanders today. It is really too bad that it was not decided. But I guess it is what it is.

You're welcome grace-land! I'm sure that split made things really hard. Each side had support enough to stay put. I really do believe that if a new jury is selected that Juan can bring it home for Travis's family. I do believe that.

Besides feeling so badly for Travis' family, I also feel bad for Juan Martinez.

...and the judge.

Good morning Monkey's,

That Shunk's, interview (with her soft voice), is what sunk the ship, IMO.
I believe, if Jodi, stayed off of the TV, it would be a different verdict.  Who the Hill allows
interviews?  She is not a celeb.  Sad
