Police say suspect tried to kidnap 2 girls in Calif.; extra officers on duty for manhunt
Published February 22, 2013 Associated Press
 ::snipping2::
WHITTIER, Calif. –  Investigators say a man grabbed an 11-year-old girl who was walking alone near a Southern California park and shoved her into the back seat of a car, where he was holding a sobbing 7-year-old against her will during brazen midafternoon kidnapping attempts.

Whittier Police Officer Brad White says the older girl accosted Thursday afternoon managed to get out of the car and free the 7-year-old, and both girls ran in different directions to escape the clutches of the 6-foot suspect.

The 11-year-old ran from Founders Park and called police when she got home. The identity and whereabouts of the younger girl are unknown.

Extra police were on duty Friday in the hunt for the suspect in a red convertible with a tan top. Authorities say he approached three teenage girls earlier this month

The composite image is part of a ramp-up in police efforts to find the man connected to at least one kidnapping and two attempted abductions.

The older girl ran home and called police, though authorities are unsure about where the younger girl ran to. The 11-year-old told police the man has a tattoo of three dots on his left hand, possibly an indication of a gang connection.
He has been described as a Latino, between 25 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium to heavy build.
 ::snipping2::
On the morning of Feb. 5, police said he was involved in the attempted kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl in the 13000 block of Broadway, several blocks from the scene of Thursday's attack.
