Today there are few ways the boys could communicate without a record?  Cell phones, land phones, and the internet all leave a footprint that governments can trace if the need arises.

Not true with respect to the internet.

It is very hard to cover your tracks with the internet and most people don't even know that they are making tracks.

If they were communicating via IM or Yahoo Im, perhaps the trace maybe on their communicating computer but not a footprint like a cell phone or hardline phone.

Look at the massive search for Elizabeth Smart--and she was alive and underground not even all that far from home--in the larger perspective of  the US.

That might mean someone found her other than the boys--unless they routinely kept sex slaves.  It would be hard to to that without it being obvious on an island that small.

yes it would be hard to do that on an island especially an island where you cant realy dig very deep.

That is true,  except for AIM and AOL's IM, those are routed to a server.
Email is another matter, and in this case, they have the computers in question.

If this new search is true and if it is true that it is based on phone activity, that very well could be why there was also a search at Joran's house today and vehicles were taken.  If there is truth to the story that Depak is now telling and a call was made from Joran's phone at 6:30am, police may be believing that Joran took parents' car to hide body and that brothers were not involved in that.

Because the computers were recovered, we think, the chance of recover of saved instant message is better than not having the computer.  With respect to AOL, its my understanding and limited experience, the im is routed outside the AOL server, so no footprint is stored or recorded.

I would think the most incriminating thing they could fine at urine's would be date drugs.  I also think they should check the bros' home too.  Just cause they're ratting doesn't mean they don't know exactly what happened and who knows where the stuff came from.  Know what I mean?

If they communicated via im, the chances of finding a footprint absence the communicating computers is remote.
