Hmm, the separated husband just happened to leave the house when she arrived and returned to find his wife missing, the dog missing and dead and her belongings in the car parked in the drive way? I think we know where this one is headed. Who kills a dog? And obviously not a robbery as her purse, credit cards, and cash was found in her abandoned car.

Multiple Jurisdictions Searching For Missing Woman

http://www.eyeonannapolis.net/2013/03/03/multiple-jurisdictions-searching-for-missing-woman/

Quote
The woman is identified as Robin L. Pope, 51, of Stevensville, Md. She is described as a white female, 5’4”, 105 lbs., with brown hair. Until December 2012, Pope had been residing with her husband, Wayne A. Pope Jr., in the 100-block of Beach Road, Stevensville. The couple separated in December and Robin Pope had been staying at a residence owned by a female friend on Kent Island.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on March 2, 2013, the Queen Anne’s County Emergency Operations Center received a call from Wayne Pope, who reported suspicious circumstances involving his wife. When Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Wayne Pope’s home, he told them his wife Robin had come to the home late Friday night to retrieve some belongings. After she arrived, he left the home. When he returned to the home early Saturday morning, he found his wife’s black 2011 Infinity still parked in the driveway, but she was not at the residence. He also said his dog, a Great Dane, was missing. Deputies found Robin Pope’s keys, purse, credit cards, and cash still in her vehicle.

Brazen.  We're in an era where many high profile murderers are not arrested or convicted.  It seems we've created a situation where those who kill know without DNA (sometimes they even get off when there is DNA) or the crime being committed on videotape they will get away with it.

I'm on the record as saying I would make a poor jurist because I would convict on solid circumstantial evidence if the motive were clear and the murderer was placed at the scene.

And seriously, he had to take the dog out, too?  Wonder if the pup knew Robin was in danger and tried to protect her?  He was a gorgeous dog... that doggie face...

Ah well, I believe dogs go to heaven.   an angelic monkey

Rest in peace Robin Pope.

I agree Red, and it's sad.  Hope they find her.

Police continue search for missing Kent Island woman

On Saturday, deputies interviewed relatives and friends as they continued the search for Pope.

Nearby residents walking along the beach in the early afternoon found the body of a Great Dane, according to Dale Patrick, spokesman for the sheriff’s office. The dog, positively identified as Bella, was found dead near the pier with obvious trauma to the upper torso, police said.

At that time, it was determined that Robin L. Pope is a critical missing person and search efforts were increased, Patrick said. Resources included deputies, Natural Resources Police and Coast Guard. The sheriff’s office marine unit, gyro place and a Coast Guard boat all were used in the seach.

Bella’s body was taken to Queen Anne’s County Animal Services in Queenstown for further investigation, police said.

Saturday evening, the sheriff’s office contacted the Maryland State Police Criminal Investigation Bureau and asked for assistance. Troopers from the MSP Homicide Unit and Criminal Enforcement Division responded and are taking the lead in the case; they have been working the investigation since, according to Greg Shipley, MSP spokesman. Assistance also is being provided by troopers from the Centreville Barracks, as well as Natural Resources Police officers and sheriff’s deputies.

The Maryland State Police dive team had been searching the Chesapeake Bay waters in the vicinity of the Popes’ waterfront home since 9 a.m. Sunday, Shipley said early Sunday afternoon. The search was being assisted by MSP helicopter and NRP and sheriff’s marine units

Police continue search for missing Kent Island woman
Posted: Sunday, March 3, 2013 2:11 pm | Updated: 4:22 pm, Sun Mar 3, 2013.

STEVENSVILLE – Multiple police agencies continued the search Sunday for a Kent Island woman missing since late Friday or early Saturday.

Robin L. Pope, 51, was last seen by her husband Wayne A. Pope Jr. at their house in the 100-block of Beach Drive in Kent Island Estates between 11 and 11:30 p.m. March 1. The couple had separated in December and Robin had been staying with a friend’s house, also on Kent Island, police said.

Wayne told police his wife had come over late Friday to retrieve some of her belongings; he left while she was getting her things. When he returned home shortly after 2 a.m. March 2, he called 911 to report “suspicious circumstances” after he found Robin’s 2011 Infinity still parked in the driveway, but she wasn’t in the house and their Great Dane, Bella, also was missing, Maryland State Police said.

Police search Chesapeake Bay for missing woman after her dog is found dead
Sunday, March 3, 4:39 PM

Maryland State Police divers searched the Chesapeake Bay on Sunday for a missing Queen Anne’s County woman after her Great Dane was found dead on the bay’s shoreline near her home.
 ::snipping2::
Shipley said Robin Pope’s disappearance is considered “suspicious.”

“Nothing has been ruled out,” Shipley said in a phone interview. “Right now they’re looking at all possibilities. . . . It’s much too early in the investigation to speculate.”
 ::snipping2::
Wayne Pope could not be reached for comment Sunday. Two numbers listed for him in public records were disconnected. A phone message left at Island Fence Co., which is listed at the same address, was not returned. The Queen Anne’s County Chamber of Commerce Web site lists Robin Pope as the owner of Island Fence.
 ::snipping2::
Robin Pope’s daughter, Rachael Pope, 19, said in a phone interview that her mother would not have intentionally left behind her cellphone or a medication that she needed daily. Rachael Pope said both were found in the car.

She said Bella, who at 10 was elderly for a Great Dane, “was my mom’s baby.”

In addition to owning the fence company, Robin Pope works as an assistant in a dentist’s office, her daughter said. Rachael Pope said that her mother moved out of the house about a month ago but that her parents were not legally separated.

“She’s a very, very high-spirited person — very happy and energetic,” Rachael Pope said.

In addition to searching the bay, investigators and crime-scene technicians are continuing to examine the area around the Popes’ home, police said.

Estranged Husband Questioned In Wife's Disappearance
Monday, March 04, 2013

 ::snipping2::
Greg Shipley with the State Police tells WBAL Radio that investigators have spoken to Wayne Pope and are not ruling anything out and considering all possibilities.

"Right now we are searching for Ms. Pope who disappeared with suspicious circumstances. We want to find her and find out what happened to her. And if there was a crime involved, who was responsible for that," says Shipley.

Shipley says that Robin Pope has had no contact with her daughter who she speaks with several times a time.

Neighbors found the family dog on Saturday afternoon along the shoreline by the bay about two houses away from the Pope residence.

Shipley says earlier reports that the Great Dane may have been injured have been corrected.  He says a veterinarian examined the dog and found no external trauma to the animal. Shipley says the dog had some tumors that were showing on his skin and gave the appearance the dog had been swollen in those spots.

MSP Update On Robin Pope
EOA Staff | March 4, 2013 at 3:42 pm

 ::snipping2::
The search for Ms. Pope has been ongoing. Searches of the area around the Pope home began Saturday and continued through Sunday. A sonar-equipped boat from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office searched the Chesapeake Bay behind the home Saturday. The Maryland State Police Underwater Recovery Team divers searched the water behind the home for about six hours yesterday. An aerial search was conducted by a Maryland State Police helicopter. Ground searches were conducted by Natural Resources Police cadaver dogs.

The Pope family dog, an 11-year-old Great Dane, had been found dead Saturday in the water along the shoreline near a pier at a neighboring home. A Queen Anne’s County veterinarian examined the dog today and found there were no external traumatic injuries to the dog, as originally suspected. The dog had large tumors in its upper torso region. The veterinarian said the dog did not drown, nor did it die from external injuries. An exact cause of death has not been determined and additional tests are underway.

Investigators have searched homes and vehicles used by the Popes and conducted numerous interviews with families and friends. Police continue to consider all possibilities and have ruled nothing out.  ::snipping2::

MSP: Divers will not re-enter bay in search for Robin Pope

STEVENSVILLE, Md. - The search for 51-year-old Robin Pope continued Monday.

Police and neighbors have been searching the Chesapeake Bay on Kent Island since Saturday when she was reported missing and her dog  was found dead in the water, two doors down by a neighbor's pier.

Police originally said the dog had obvious signs of trauma. Monday, MSP investigators said the dog had tumors.

Maryland State Police (MSP) investigators are now leading the investigation. While the search for clues continues, they say there are no plans to put divers back in the water where Pope's great dane was found Saturday. Several divers spent four hours near Pope's former home on Beach Rd. in Stevensville Saturday.

The search for Robin Pope continues

A Monday night at Ram's Head in Stevensville was a typical night for Robin and Wayne Pope to grab dinner.  In fact, bartender Candace Brush has seen the couple together in recent weeks after they reportedly separated.

"I did not know that they had separated. They always seemed loving toward each other. They were always happy," said Brush.

Maryland State Police say Robin moved out of the Stevensville home in December, but she was living with a friend on Kent Island.  Brush says the Popes came in several times a week, and most recently another woman was with them.

She says they ate healthy and were into working out.

"They never really fought in here, so I wouldn't assume that he had anything to do with it," said Pope.
 ::snipping2::
The couple has one daughter together, who is 17.  Robin has an older daughter who lives in California.

Her friends and neighbors are hoping to gather about 100 people on Sunday morning to search the land and water around her home.

200 gather in Stevensville to search for missing Kent Island woman
Posted: Tuesday, March 12, 2013 10:30 am | Updated: 10:39 am, Tue Mar 12, 2013.

About 200 people gathered in Stevensville on Sunday to search for a Kent Island woman who disappeared earlier this month.

Robin Pope, 51, was last seen on the night of March 1 at her former Beach Road home. Sunday’s search was organized by community members, although state police investigators and representatives also attended, state police spokesman Greg Shipley said.

Shipley called the effort a “sign of compassion from the community.”

“We appreciate their support,” he said.

The search produced nothing investigators believe is linked to Pope’s disappearance, Shipley said.

A search of the water behind the home that Pope once shared with her husband is expected to continue sometime this week, Shipley said.

Robin Pope's daughters talk about new evidence, reward in missing woman's case

It is a real nightmare this family is living as they wait for answers.  So far investigators don't have many to provide.  State Police spokesman Greg Shipley says crews hit the water again Wednesday in a boat provided by the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff.  But Shipley says they still have no idea what happened to Pope or where she is.

Rachael Pope says a search on Sunday turned up a shirt they believe is Robin's.  She says it was found next to where her dog was found.  For this family, it is the latest clue in a mystery they are desperate to solve.  Hastings says, “As the days go on and other people start to forget about this, it's getting heavier and heavier for us."

The girls say they’re working on a reward with the Pope family, hoping the addition of money will stir tips and jog peoples’ memories.  They expect to release details about the reward in the next few days, indicating the money is being provided by Wayne Pope’s family.  Pope, Robin’s estranged husband, is the one who reported her missing.

New details in search for missing Maryland woman
updated 1:29 PM EDT, Thu March 21, 2013

 ::snipping2::
One of Pope’s daughters, Priscilla Hastings, revealed new details Tuesday about the night her mother went missing.

Hastings told HLN her mother had a job interview at a GNC on March 1 around 8 p.m. The last known communication from her cell phone was a 13-minute call to Wayne Pope at 10:30 p.m. that ended when she reached Oregon Road, which connects to the street where the couple had lived and Wayne still resided.

According to Hastings, Wayne Pope allegedly said he fell asleep after that conversation. When he woke up, he allegedly found Robin sleeping in her car outside the house. He knocked on her window and told her he would leave so she could go inside and get her belongings.

According to Robin Pope’s best friend Debbie O’Malley, Wayne came to her house around 1:30 a.m. on March 2 to ask if she had seen Robin. He allegedly told her he had left Robin at his house around 11:00 p.m. because his attorney advised him not to be alone with her, but she and her dog, a Great Dane named Bella, were gone when he returned two hours later.

There was no sign of Robin Pope at the condo where she had been staying and she was not answering her phone, according to O’Malley. At that point, she advised Wayne Pope to go home, call the police and report Robin missing.

Wayne Pope called police and responding officers found Robin’s phone, purse and ID in her car at their house. Medication that Robin had been taking following successful treatment for breast cancer was also left in the vehicle, Hastings said.

Later on Saturday, the dog’s body was found in the water near the home by local residents walking along the shore, according to police.
