26 year old Terrilynn Monnette has been missing since the early hours of Saturday morning, March 2, 2013. The 26 year old elementary school teacher was last seen with friends on Friday night at a bar, Parlay’s, in the Lakeview section of New Orleans. Employees say she’d just finished a night of heavy drinking with several friends. Then she and a male acquaintance walked out and sat inside her car. According to reports, Monnette left the bar around 4 o’clock Saturday morning with a male acquaintance. The two talked for a while than the bar’s video surveillance showed they left in separate cars and headed off in opposite directions.  Terrilynn Monnette has not been seen or heard from since.

New Orleans Schoolteacher Missing After Leaving Bar

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/03/new-orleans-schoolteacher-missing-after-leaving-bar/

Quote
Twenty-six-year-old  Terrilynn Monnette was last seen with friends at a bar in the Lakeview section of the Crescent City  last Friday evening. She left the bar around 4 o’clock Saturday morning with a male acquaintance,  reported ABC’s  New Orleans affiliate WGNO, telling her friends that she was going to take a nap in her car before driving home because she’d had a few drinks.

The bar’s general manager told WGNO that the two talked in the parking lot “for a little while,” but the bar’s video surveillance showed they left in separate cars. “He went one way, she went the other,” the bar manager said.

An eyewitness has told police that he saw the missing teacher with an unidentified man in the bar’s parking lot, according to information on the missing person’s flyer that Monnette’s family has been distributing.

Police detectives are  searching for Monnette’s car — a three-door black Louisiana-registered Honda Accord with license plate number WUN494, according to the missing person’s flyer.

Bar Manager Talks About Missing Teacher

Employees say she’d just finished a night of heavy drinking with several friends; when she and a male acquaintance walked out and sat inside her car.

“She went out to the parking lot with one of her friends,” said Parlay General Manager Anna Boudousque. “They were talking; they were there for a little while.”

New Orleans Police detectives are reviewing security camera footage from the adjacent bank.

According to the general manager, bar security revealed what happened next.

“They left separate,” Boudousque said. “He went one way she went another.”

“How do we know they left in separate cars? They saw them they visually saw them leave.”

“I absolutely do not regret my decision to move out here,” Monnette said in a pre-recorded YouTube video. “Becoming a teacher in New Orleans is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.”

Could it be that Terrilynn Monnette may have passed out and her vehicle left the road? Think about the incident involving Jessica Marie Rath of Astoria, Washington who fell asleep while driving.

As teacher's disappearance nears one-week mark, NOPD releases details on investigation
March 08, 2013

<snipped>

NOPD detectives have identified and interviewed the man who was the last person seen with Monette around 4 a.m. last Saturday at Monette's car in the parking lot of Parlay's bar in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Lakeview, Williams said. Monette reportedly told acquaintances whom she had been drinking with at Parlay's that she planned to sleep in her car before driving home, because she had had a few drinks.

Monette's cell phone stopped working four hours before she disappeared, while she was at Parlay's, Williams said. The phone has not been turned on since, making it difficult for detectives to track her possible location.

Detectives have reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses, but Wiliams said she could not comment on the contents because of the ongoing investigation.

NOPD: Still no suspects in teacher's disappearance as search continues

By Helen Freund, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
on March 11, 2013 at 2:05 PM

The search for missing school teacher Terrilyn Monette continued Monday, even as aerial and marine searches were put to a halt due to inclement weather. More than a week after the 26-year-old California native disappeared after leaving a Lakeview area bar police say they still have no suspects in the case.

A small group of concerned residents and members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, of  which Monette is a member, began a search in eastern New Orleans on Monday morning in the hopes that traveling through some more remote areas might turn up clues that the ongoing investigation has not.

"We know the NOPD has been working around the clock looking for her, but we figure if we continue to help out the search it will only better our chances of finding her," said 62-year-old Terry Brown, who was part of the group that met outside of a Winn-Dixie in the 9700 block of Chef Menteur Highway on Monday at 11 a.m.

"We're looking for any abandoned cars that might belong to her or anything else that might just not look right," said Brown.

On Sunday, police said, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office searched by boat through Bayou St. John for four hours in an attempt to locate Monette's vehicle but turned up empty-handed.

JPSO also deployed helicopters to search through City Park, Lakeview and parts of the lakefront over the weekend, police said.

JPSO also deployed helicopters to search through City Park, Lakeview and parts of the lakefront over the weekend.

While aerial and marine searches were called off on Monday due to poor weather conditions, police said they are still combing through City Park, as the vast green space lies directly between the bar where Monette was last seen and her apartment, and would most likely have been on her route to get home, said officer Hilal Williams, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department.

Monette, who moved from California to New Orleans to work as a TeachNOLA fellow last year, was last seen around 4 a.m. March 2 in the parking lot of Parlay's bar in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Lakeview. She was seen with a man who has since been identified and interviewed by NOPD detectives, police said, and is not considered a suspect.

Monette's cell phone stopped working four hours before she disappeared, while she was at the bar police said. The phone has not been turned on since, making it difficult for detectives to track her possible location.
Police do not believe Monette ever made it back to her apartment Saturday, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on this missing person case, including the location of Monette's 2012 black two-door Honda Accord, Louisiana license plate WUN494, to contact NOPD at 504.821.2222

Equusearch to focus on City Park lagoons during missing teacher search

http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/Eqqusearch-to-focus-on-City-Park-lagoons-during-missing-teacher--197457741.html

New Orleans police said Equusearch, an organization that specializes in search operations, should be arriving in New Orleans Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

Police said Equusearch will be combing the lagoons in City Park.

They believe that would most likely be Monette's path of travel to her apartment from Parlay's bar in Lakeview.

"My hands are like sweaty palms now, but we are trying," said her sister, Kandice Enclade. "We know we are going to find Terrilynn. We do."

A week after she vanished, Monette's family was joined by New Orleans Police and 300 volunteers to search City Park. She and her late model Honda Accord were last seen outside nearby Parlay's Bar in Lakeview. Teams of volunteers searched wooded areas and along the numerous canals that run through City Park, hoping to spot any sign of Monette or her car.

"This has really motivated me. The crowd out here is absolutely wonderful. It was unexpected," said Ronda Jones, a teacher and co-worker.

Old cars in Bayou St. John complicate search for missing teacher's vehicle

Updated: Mar 15, 2013 4:01 PM PDT

New Orleans, La. -

The owner of a Texas search company says he's bringing in bigger sonar units on Sunday. EquuSearch is combing area waterways for a missing teacher.

Tim Miller of EquuSearch says the same equipment used in the Natalee Holloway investigation in Aruba will be brought here.

Now the company is moving its efforts to find Terrilynn Monette to the bridge by Robert E. Lee, looking for any sign of Monette's black Honda.

So many cars are under the waters of the bayou, though, it's making their job trickier.

"We have seen many cars under the water. They are not all in clusters. Some of them are older than others and actually on the sonar machine you can see barnacles growing off of them," said Caitlyn Garey of EquuSearch.

Crews face challenges as they look for any sign of Terrilynn Monette or her car beneath miles of bayou.  There are so many other vehicles under the water.

"I think we got 11 or 12 in there, all along the bayou," said Tim Miller.

The search crew says the cars may have been stolen, left over from Katrina, or dumped for some other reason.

6/8/13    Terrilyn Monette's car has been found with her body inside, Rep. Austin Badon says

"The car of missing teacher Terrilyn Monette has been found in Bayou St. John, near the corner of Harrison Avenue and Wisner Boulevard, state Rep. Austin Badon confirmed Saturday. Monette's body was believed to be in the car, Badon said.

A Slidell Police Department officer who volunteered to dive in the water and search for the car located it before about noon Saturday. The car matched the license plate, make, model and color of Monette's."
