I work in Oceanside.  The drive home normally takes about 35 minutes or so.  Yesterday there was the fire in Carlsbad, San Marcos, Camp Pendleton and also one by the SC Nuclear PP.  The one by the power plant closed the I5, the only acceptable route north from Oceanside.  It took me over 2 1/2 hours to drive home yesterday.  Today, most of the fires are almost under control except for the San Marcos.  I think that fire may have burned a couple more houses down.  I believe that the fires are very near to the area that SM member SHELL lives or lived when her house burned down a few years back. 

It's a bit cooler today.  Instead of being 105-108 it's more like 97-101.  They are saying it should cool down tomorrow.  I SURE HOPE SO!

I believe Shell moved to Texas a couple of years ago!

 Glad to hear your safe and ok Klaas.  Those fires are so unpredictable and so early in the season, just horrible.

My sister in law lives up at the top of Rainbow Heights in Fallbrook, I worry every year about them, just getting up to their "eagles nest" is an awful drive and she says its so dry  and windy up there it would only take a spark to set the entire area off. 

Natural disasters seem to be alarmingly increasing, doesn't seem to be anywhere that we can call safe anymore.

    How ironic that my 1st time to SM in a while brought me to this post and there was my name!!! We built a beautiful home after the 2007 firestorm, lived in it a few years, sold it and moved back to our home state of Texas to be nearer our children and grand kids. I avoid the news of the fires because it stirs up memories and feelings I would rather not revisit. Would love to find the thread for chit chat and catch up with you all.

Hi Shell!  Great to see you.  This would be the best place to post and catch us up on how you've been doing.  Unfortunately, the forum is very slow these days so you may have to check back for responses.  Anyway, it's always good to see you!

KCJackie - do your fur babies like the water?  He is the first Jack Russell we've had that likes water, the others have avoided it like the plague
