61 degrees yesterday, last night we had severe thunderstorm, plenty of thunder and lightening, today up to 65* and tomorrow 75 degrees with tornado watches.  I want warm weather but I am afraid this year will bring very severe spring weather. Our yard is thawing out and it is nothing but mud.  Hubby's truck back tires sunk into the mud in the yard and he got stuck.  You just sink in the yard by just walking over the grass too.

The 6 corvettes that fell into the sink hole will be pulled out of the hole within the next 2 weeks.  The 1st two corvettes that fell in they have not yet located them and don't know how far down they are.  They are putting up a viewing glass where visitors can watch the progress.  I am here to tell you I will not get near that museum.  Too many caves and sinkholes opening up in this weather we have had.  I would be afraid that that hole would open up even more and swallow the rest of the building.  Engineers say that the building and surrounding area is stable.  Whatever!

That sounds really, really scary Blue Moon.

Hi Guys---I don't come here very often any more but today I did and was reading about the snow and Gatlingburg and Pigeon forge.  I was at a casino in Cherokee NC on the Wednesday it snowed and was snowed in at Harrah's,  I live in Pigeon Forge and left on Monday for Cherokee.  The road over the mountains was closed but I went on the Interstate and got off at the Maggie Valley exit and on to Cherokee.  Anyway, Friday was a lovely day and had no trouble getting home but had to drive on the Interstate again as the mountain road was closed.  It was a beautiful snow and I can't think of a better place to get snowed in.  Excellent room service and wonderful food at the hotel, although I did have an extra day to gamble and lost more than I should have.  I was with a friend.

In Pigeon Forge we do have salt on the roads, right up to the gate of my property.  Also they plow the road.  I live about two miles from the Parkway.  In 1993 we had a three foot snow in March and we were without electricity for three days.  My husband was living then.  We actually had a wonderful time cooking on the fireplace and sleeping on a mattress in front of the fire.  He died the next month but it is a wonderful memory.

I was snowed in with a friend at Harrah's in Cherokee and we also had a wonderful time!

Hello to all of you Monkeys.  Hope everyone is OK and as happy as I am.

Hello to all of you Monkeys.  Hope everyone is OK and as happy as I am.

Hi, BB, I sure didn't know you were from Pigeon Forge.  We come down there at least 3-4 times a year.  Have been doing that for the past 30 years.  Love it is all I can say.

I didn't know they salted the roads in Pigeon Forge but several years ago when we were in Gatlinburg a guy at the hotel told us the reason the streets were solid ice because they were not allowed to us salt inside Gatlinburg and on the mountain roads--something about the runoff from the mountain streams.  He said they use sand and always had and they didn't want to hurt the plant life by using salt.  All I know is you could not stand up that year.  It was very difficult to get around.

Ah, yes, Cherokee.  We have done that a few times.  Got to say though it is really hard to win anything there (or at any casino that is run by Indians).  They are as tight as bark on a tree!!!!

The ride on the Interstate to Maggie Valley exit is a beautiful ride but I always feel closed in with those mountains on each side of the road and the semi's scare the heck out of me.

All I know is the Great Smoky Mountains cannot be beat.  I would venture to say we have covered and hiked about every trail there is there.  We would do it today but our legs cannot move like they used to.

Have you rode that big ferris wheel yet?  I get high sick really easy so I don't know if I will ever ride it.  My husband wants to ride it but I have talked him out of it so far.  Guess I will have to give in and just cover my eyes.

Hope all our California Monkeys are staying safe with all the rain.  I heard they are saying possible tornado's. Family that lives inland have gotten almost 2 1/2 inches already. That was at 9 this morning.  Stay safe.

Working from home today, I didn't EVEN want to get on the freeway!  Storm has let up now for a bit but I'm sure more on the way.  Super heavy rain and wind for a while.

I don't blame you Klaas for not wanting to go out in it. I can imagine what the freeways are like. No Thanks. I would imagine all the burn areas are going to have mud slides too.

I guess spring is going to come in "Like a Lion".............We have had heavy rain followed by freezing rain with thunder and lightning, it is now sleeting--the ground is solid white from the sleet--by midnight we should be getting about 3" of snow.  They have warnings out to expect wide spread power outages and expect severe damaged to trees.  I went to the grocery this afternoon and stocked up on bread, milk, eggs, sandwich meats, salads, anything that you can fix to eat without power.  We have a stove for heat and cooking so we will be o.k but heavens tomorrow night it will get down to 9 degrees with 20-30mph winds making the windchill below 0*.  Want be sleeping in the back and north front side of the house for fear the bradford pear trees will break in to and fall on the roof. I hate this weather and I know lots of people all over the country are really tired of it also.

Klaas, have you had any problems from all the rain and mud slides in your area?  Sure hope not.

I haven't been able to get to my flower bed to see if my crocus'  have started coming up yet but my niece posted a pic today of theirs coming up and they are pretty.  Spring is not far behind when you see your flowers coming up (I hope).

Oh, I forgot, they are going to start pulling up the corvettes out of the sinkhole tomorrow.  The 1st one is a black corvette.  It is already strapped up and ready to go.  The 2nd one (a red corvette) will be pulled up after that one.  They have a camera on it and will be able to see them removing them.  the 1st two that went in they haven't found them yet but think they will once they pull out the other 6.

Blue Moon, Stay warm and safe. It's been a long and cold winter for almost everyone. I keep hoping that each storm is the last one for every body. And then another one comes.

Prayers for all the Monkeys that you are all staying warm and safe.

Klaas glad to hear your rain stopped. Hope you weren't by any of the mudslides. Last I heard the ones at the foothills weren't as bad as they were excepting.

Our weather here in North Texas went from beautiful sunny & warm to cold snowy and ice in about 12 hours. Sat it was 82. By Sat night it was down to 34 and Sunday morning it was 20 and by Monday morning we will be about 10.

We didn't have any problems at all at our house with flooding or mud slides, thankfully.  I think most of the problems were in the areas that had previously had the brush fires.

I bet you guys in the midwest and east are sick and tired of this cold weather!

They removed 2 corvettes today.  The Blue Devil was the 1st and it started up right away and they drove it out.  The ruby red Corvette didn't come out as good condition as the 1st.:

Dusted off our tree from 2006    Merry Christmas to All!

OH! I LOVE SEEING THAT, KLAAS!!  Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

Hope all had a joyous day filled with love and the Spirit of Christmas!!

I'm really tired and the house is a mess, but I'm incredibly Blessed that I had family around me, people to catch my smile and return it, my dog to feed from the table, no new empty chairs, and even though I'm not all I'd like to be, I'm forgiven for the shortcomings and encouraged to try harder! I'm so grateful for you all as well. SM's a place of kindred spirits and I love you all!

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2013!

I don't know how I missed this, but miss it I did.  I see so many old friends.  We thought we would be together forever, and then life and the circle of life happened.  Come in and say hi, those of you who are watching anonymously.  I miss your face in the place.

No matter how much time I miss, I always feel like I have come home when I come into the cage.

I don't see me, I must have been absent the day that was taken or maybe I was in invisible mode that day.  I miss you all.  Shout out to Peaches and 2NJ.  I hope you have caught up by now, but I am guessing that is an eternal conversation.  Now that you guys know what happened with Natalee, I hope you whisper it in someone's ear.  Mine's available.

Has anyone heard from 2NJ's family?  I wonder how they are making out.

Hi Bearly.....I loved what you said....that you thought we would be together forever.  Life does happen.

I thought I would tell you all that I have a precious three month old male Cairn terrier....and there is another Cairn, a female, joining the household this Saturday.  She is 6 weeks old.  Am I nuts?

The first one is wonderful.  I am wondering if he will be wonderful when his sister arrives and wants his
toys and his playpen.  I do wish I could figure out how to bring up pictures.

Hello everyone.....

Hello everyone.....

Mere, Klaas told me to get an account on Photo Bucket.  I signed up for it and download my pics into it and then I can share them on Facebook and here also.  Once it is in Photobucket, you can adjust the size of the photo and then copy the link to it and paste it here and it shows up.  Klaas is so smart---we are never too old to learn.

mere, email the pic to me and I will post it for you if you want.  I would love to see the baby.

Hi Blue Moon--
sorry it took so long to respond.  Yes I understand about I40 those trucks whiz on that curvy road but most of it until you get to Ashville is posted for trucks to use right lane only so it is possible to pass them when they slow down going up mountains.  Of course going downhill they pick up speed and ride your bumper.

As I recall, we've only had salt put on our road the last three-four years so it is probably correct that they didn't do it when they told you the didn't use salt.

I enjoy living in Pigeon Forge.  I live on a hill and can see that big ferris wheel at night--it's all lit up.  I haven't been on it but I did ride on the London Eye once.  Don't think I'll do that again.

I love to go to Harrah's Cherokee.  The last time, when we got snowed in and stayed an extra day I lost a bit more than I should have, but still had a good time.  The enlarged casino has some really good restaurants now.  I particulary like Brio's.  Paula Deen's was closed and now is something else, which disappointed me because it was a good restaurant, unlike her restaurant in Savannah.  But she is building one here in PF and it will be open late summer.  We are happy about that.

It was spring here yesterday and today winter is back.  Rain and snow tonight they say.  But the daffodils are blooming and there is hope.

I posted this in the recall section of Scared Monkeys, but wanted to share it here also.

http://www.wfaa.com/news/business/247581021.html
Furniture maker renews warning after 2 kids die
February 27, 2014

NEW YORK (AP) — Lane Home Furniture is urging people to check if they own a cedar chest it stopped making nearly 30 years ago, after two children recently suffocated to death inside the chest.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said a latch on the chest automatically locks when closed. Lane originally recalled about 12 million of the chests in 1996 after other deaths, but the chests are still being bought at second-hand stores or handed down by families.
The chests were made between 1912 and 1987 and can be identified by the Lane and Virginia Maid brands inside of them.
Consumers who own the chest should immediately remove the latch and Lane at 800-327-6944 for replacement hardware.
The CPSC says a total of nine children have died inside the chests. The two who recently died were a brother and sister from Franklin, Mass., who were 7 and 8 years old.
