"Saudi Arabia Builds 1,000-Mile Fence to Block Yemeni Smugglers and Migrants"

Saudi Arabia is building a 1,000-mile fence to keep illegal immigrants and gun and drug smugglers from Yemen out of the country.

The fence is planned to stretch from the Red Sea coast in the west to the border with Oman in the east to seal entry to Yemeni intruders.

Drug and gun smuggling from Yemen into Saudi Arabia is still rising. In a crackdown in January, Saudi authorities deported nearly 200,000 foreign workers. According to a report in The National, deported Yemenis were "thrown into trucks like sheep" in Saudi to solve their own unemployment crisis. Competition for jobs with locals was also behind the crackdown as the Saudi unemployment rate has escalated to 12 percent.

Deportations solve unemployment crisis?  US has 90 million folks looking for a job.  Why can't the able bodied unemployed and welfare recipient find these jobs?

"Saudi: No mercy to illegal immigrants"

The ambassador, Dr Saud Mohammed Alsati, has reportedly told Mr Ravi that the Saudi government was ready to hold cordial discussions with India on the implementation of nitaqat laws. However, the ambassador said the Saudi government would not allow illegal migrants to work in that country.
 
Ravi informed the ambassador that the Indian government would provide all assistance for the Indian workers in Saudi, who do not have proper emigration certificates and job documents, to return to India. So far, a total of 3,745 Indian expatriates have reported at the Indian embassy in Saudi as not having proper documents.

Expatriates living in different cities of KSA said that panic had spread in the Indian community. "Many people are refusing to step out of their homes as coordinated raids are being conducted on the streets and at offices. Local newspapers have reported that many community schools run by Indians have also been shut for a few days on account of the raids," said Faiyaz Sharief, a hospital employee who lives in Jeddah but hails from the city. Images and videos of the raids floating on the internet, which show migrants in deplorable conditions trying to evade the authorities, have also fuelled the panic.

Sources said there was a strong likelihood of 'free' or 'azad' visa holding job seekers being affected by the clampdown, with EI officials maintaining that they were 'illegals'. "Many travel to the Kingdom on such visas, which state that they are drivers or cooks, but they usually work in other professions. It is only later that the companies that employ them change the nature of their visas. Those who do not have proper kafils (Saudi sponsors) will be in trouble," the source said.

Online news publication Al-Akhbar reported a video showing a group of Saudi authorities “binding and beating alleged illegal immigrants” has been circulating. The report said the video, posted on YouTube, has been circulating online and is believed to be a footage from the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration.

“The footage shows a at least five non-Saudi men lying on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs, surrounded by a dozen men wearing the traditional thobe. One of the foreigners was saying he is innocent, to which one Saudi replied ‘If you had come legally, no one would have tied you up like this’,” the report read.

Saudi Arabia, the report read, has “justified the measures as an attempt to deal with high unemployment among Saudi nationals.”

What is 'AMNESTY' in Saudi Arabia?

"Saudi Arabia grants amnesty for thousands of Sri Lankan workers"

Randeniya said: “This is the time the Saudi government grants amnesty and calls on all illegal migrants to go home.  The migrants who have decided to go back home have assembled under the bridge.”

However, stringent rules demanding a penalty from the migrant workers have been introduced by the Saudi government which has also refused to give air tickets for them. However, SLBFE has agreed to give air ticket to those who cannot afford it.

Why can't the US have this kind of amnesty?  Go home and we won't assess a penalty?

Where are the calls to make these illegals citizens of KSA?  Encourage their families to come too?
