Ex-teacher denied bond in Miss. girl's kidnapping
Ruth Ingram, The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger8:01 a.m. EDT May 3, 2013

JACKSON, Miss. -- Not long after 6-year-old Jashayla Markayia Hopson didn't make it home Tuesday on her East Kemper Elementary school bus, her mother received a chilling text message.

It read: "dont call the police I will call you later if you call the police u wont see her again."
 ::snipping2::
The woman who kidnapped the little girl from her school and sent the text, federal prosecutors allege, is Jessie Mae Brown Pollard, 54. Pollard is a well-known and well-liked former West Kemper County High teacher and girls' basketball coach who, after 21 years as an educator, recently moved to Alabama from her lifelong home in Porterville in Kemper County.

Citing the violent nature of the crime and the fact that it carries a life sentence, U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Ball denied bond Thursday for Pollard, who appeared before him in handcuffs. She will remain in federal custody pending her case being presented to a grand jury.
 ::snipping2::
Prosecutors allege Pollard was the driver of a car that came to Jashayla's school on Tuesday. A criminal complaint against Pollard written by Special FBI Agent Bradley Hentschel said a passenger in Pollard's car identified by Jashayla as "Jocelyn" walked into the school and asked for her. According to the complaint, the little girl told investigators Jocelyn called the driver "Jessie Mae." Prosecutors said Jashayla told investigators she didn't know Jocelyn. Also in the car was a male baby, investigators said Jashayla told them.

Also being investigated by the Kemper County school district is how the child was able to be taken from the school library. There was no effort to check the child out of school, prosecutors said at the hearing Thursday.

Two more women have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday kidnapping of a 6-year-old student in Kemper County.

Jesse Mae Brown Pollard, 54, was charged with taking Jashayla Markayia Hopson from her East Kemper Elementary School.

Wanda Faye Dancy, 51, and Shamarius Ruffin, 25, were both arrested in Meridian in connection with the case, according to WLBT.

Dancy is the secretary at East Kemper Elementary School. She is accused of aiding the abduction by telling Pollard the child's location in the school and what Hopson was wearing, according to the criminal complaint
