Happy New Years Monkeys.... I understand the name change. I haven't been myself lately. Kind of a bit of depression I guess. I pray that you all have a wonderful New Year in 2014. Really stressed out about my job with this Obamacare coming and we are losing business.

My new year resolution is to log into monkeys every day, try not to be depressed, and take every day as it comes instead on dwelling on what may happen in the future.

God bless you all and if you don't mind, pray for my friend. She was in a wreck in early November, she lost her leg, her spleen and liver were basically exploded. She is still in hospital due to infection in her abdomen. Plus she doesn't have insurance, the hospital has given her a years worth of coverage because she is basically indigent now.

I miss and love you all.  an angelic monkey

Glad to see you JSM. Try not to worry too much - you have CC to take care of you if the job goes away. Smile

Doesn't Texas have medical as part of your auto insurance?
Hey TBM she only had collision, so no she didn't have any insurance. She is at a county hospital, but after she had the wreck her parents moved her address to Johnson Co which isn't in the JPS network. She lived in Tarrant Co forever, paid taxes, but once you move out of network, you are basically screwed.

Wow that sucks. In Michigan you get auto paid medical forever due to an accident no matter the insurance you have.

Really Monkeys, I hope the thread name can stay the same.  If it wasn't for you all and past monkeys I may have never found the love of my life and best friend.

I would hate to see the name changed, but I do understand if it must.  Many friends here we have met in in person, and one who attended our wedding but got lost in Cocoa Beach for the reception (we love you, and you know who you are).

JSM is really an amazing women that I wish you all could meet.  She has sooo much compasion for people and their concerns but sometimes she tries to take on too much and it wears her out.

Peace out

Personally, I think it's time to change the name.

I think it's time to have a name that is indicative of what we do in here.

Chat, encourage, laugh, cry, and play around.

I think more monkeys would feel welcome here and would join us with a more inclusive name.

But that's just my opinion.

CC and JSM, we still care about you and your past, present and future!

Ya I know we aren't close to being in the minus department. I am thankful for that. I have family in Minnesota that had -34 with windchill. No thanks. My feet are ice cubes at 30. You stay safe & warm TBM

I think in some ways, keeping the name the same puts a burden on JSM.  She probably deep down feels guilty she's not stopping by "her" thread.  Changing the name will ease that guilt as the thread will no longer "appear" to be all about/for her (even though I know it was everyone's thread). The people will remain the same.  JSM and CC brought everyone together in this thread and that won't change.  Only the name will change to reflect what the thread really is since JSM was never in jeopardy of being banned (can't say the same for CC, lol)

I think it's time for a name change.

Having a ball: The history behind American New Year's Eve celebrations

By: Ellen Rolfes

With the creation of standard time, time balls were invented so that sailors could adjust their chronometers, or timepieces, while at sea. With a telescope, they would scope the harbor and watch for a time ball to drop at a specific time, usually noon or 1 p.m. The first time ball was installed in 1829 in Portsmouth, England. The U.S. Naval Observatory followed suit and began dropping a time ball in 1845 in Washington's Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Soon many port towns and cities adopted the practice.

The New York Times building in midtown Manhattan was completed in 1904. Photo by A. Loeffler, Tompkinsville, N.Y./Library of Congress

It was one of these time balls that became the inspiration for Walter Palmer, The New York Times' chief electrician, who reimagined the maritime timekeeping ritual as a unique finale to the city's end-of-the-year party. (cont.)
