4 Donks, it is so good to hear Hobbs is doing better!

And it is good to hear from you!

You know I had to do it. I was tempted to put a stolen hat in his mouth.

But I resisted.

Keep doing well, Hobbs!!!

Thanks for sharing the picture.

Personally, I have never heard of a cottage roll.

Had to look it up: A cottage roll or cottage ham is one that is cut from the end of the shoulder but end, commonly known as shoulder butt or as a cottage roll. It is soaked in brine.

I am willing to bet it is more popular in Canada than the US. I'll ask my Canadian husband when he gets home this evening.

I have used corned beef instead of ham with cabbage, potatoes, onions and carrots. Probably a similar dish.

Someone else asking what a cottage roll is: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2366808/pork-cottage-roll

I do, however know what an apple strudel is. LOL. But my husband has never made one.

Cottage roll is sooo good!  Its tender and leftovers are nice in sandwiches.  I like to prepare meals that are easy to chew when my Mom comes and I don't follow tradition any more.  Back in the day when my kids were home and I had larger crowds for festive meals I might have chosen a traditional ham or turkey.  The texture of a cottage roll is quite different from that of a baked ham.  A tip:  I cut the cabbage in sixths or quarters and tie them together with string so you are not fishing around for bits n pieces of cabbage.  Cabbage because it is cooked with the ham, carrots, onions , potatoes, bay leaf, bit of garlic, etc. is very gentle in flavor.
Doesn't everyone's husband make strudel once in a while!  J/K
Interested if your husband is familiar with cottage roll?  Maple Leaf is the brand most common here but the one I found that was so free of fat, was from the U.S.A.

Afternoon Monkeys

It's been crazy around here. Daughters car is down so been driving here and the boys around. Plus driving granddaughter to work & back.

Granddaughters work schedule has been all over the place. Last night she went in at 6PM and called me at 2 Am she was ready to come home. Lucked out the storm that was suppose to hit waited until after we got home. Good thing daughter works from home or I would be on the road most of the day.

Continued Prayers for all in need. Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Good morning Monkeys.

Where have you all been?  Are you communicating through SM face book?  I have never done face book or twitter.  Perhaps it's time I 'get with the program'.

TBM - How is your leg?  Much improved, I hope.

Bearly - miss you.

Sister - miss you too.

Cookie - Know you have several trips planned and are enjoying family, friends and life in general.  Go girl!

Brandi - have you competed obedience training with Panda yet?  Expect you are busy with spring clean-up on your property.  Is it time for planting yet?  We usually begin around May 24th weekend, but think it might be delayed a bit this year.  Happy to report that my hyacinths are in full bloom and have the odd tulip in the back yard which faces south.  Front
tulips are a week or two away from blooming.  Most severe winter since 1936...before I was born I might add.

Four Donks - How is your health?  Is Hobbs still enjoying the pasture?

Cad.  -  How are you?   an angelic monkey

Hiya    Hope you and the family are well.

Hi Can ,

Not a whole lot of excitement around here, which is good.  I like boring.

Chubbie got into something in the yard that smelled awful - words could not describe how bad she smelled.  I tried tying her to the rail outside and bathing her in Dawn.  I still couldn't get the odor off.  I finally took her to the vet for a "real" bath. She came home smelling so wonderful and fragrant that we all just kept hugging her.

A couple of days later, the funk was back!!  I was so angry.  BUT I figured out what it was when I caught her with a DEAD FISH.  Have you ever?????

We have a pond/ lake behind out property that is kept stocked.  I remembered reading an email about how the fish were dying and the pond management people were looking into the matter, but I tossed it from my mind as I didn't need the info.

She had been getting these dead fish and they roll and roll in them all around their neck, face and upper body.  It is disgusting.  I washed her myself again and have been putting baby powder on her.  It is better but I want the fresh, fragrant, sweet smell of the pro bath back!!

Chubbie and the Criminal have an electric fence and are not supposed to be down at the lake.  How did those dead fish get in my yard???

I have been shopping and looking at all the new, pretty items my daughter has received for her baby due in June.  I can not wait to spoil him rotten.

That's my world in a wrap!!

Hi Can!!

Caddy - perhaps you could try the old stink removal remedy canned tomato juice to get rid of your doggie's dead fish smell.  It's what we use when ours have crossed paths with skunks...  The blue Dawn does seem to work quite well for flea removal, though.

Caddy  Here is what we use for skunk smell works great.

Bathing dogs sprayed by skunks
1.
In the plastic container, combine 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid soap. Add lukewarm water if needed (for larger dogs). Mix ingredients well. The solution will fizz, as a chemical reaction is occurring. Use immediately - do not store.
2.   Do not soak your dog with water prior to bathing. Promptly begin cleansing the affected areas thoroughly, massaging the solution deep into your dog's coat. You may wish to use a sponge or washcloth. Avoid getting the solution in the eyes, ears or mouth.
3.   Allow the solution to remain on your dog for at least five minutes (longer if strong odor persists).
4.   Rinse your dog well with lukewarm water. Repeat steps 3-5 as necessary until odor is gone.
5.   Dry your dog well and give her a treat!

We used to use the tomato juice remedy, but I just saw the bathing remedy Green Eyes posted and it looks like it would be something to try!!  Here's an interesting article with some good tips and discussion for treatment method.  I always have Nature's Remedy or Simple Solution (enzymes) on hand, and that could also be something to use as it could go on right away.

Caddy,

Hubs used the tomato juice remedy when Serena got skunk sprayed and it was quite effective.
Sounds like the monkeys, have come up with some good solutions for you.
I do agree with you though, the sweet smelling pro bath would be my preference.

Oh, the joy of expecting your first grandchild and having your daughter living nearby so you can share the experience with her.

My Grands live far away, but they are of an age now where I can email messages for their Mommy to read to them and they are great little talkers on the phone.  The youngest will always sing me a song.  So cute.
