I have been doing the Thanksgiving thing for the past 13 years, hosting my neighbor and our family of 3 here. My sister is in Florida, my brother died last November, and our parents are both gone as well. Husband's family is in Canada, so there are very few family members to host.

I have a very small family, as I only had one brother, one sister, one aunt, one uncle and one cousin growing up. My mother was an only child and my father had just one sister. His sister died 20 years ago, and her husband has remarried. I am not even sure if he is still my uncle.

So Thanksgiving here in the past 13 years has always been a small gathering, but I still have to cook everything as if there were lots of people attending. LOL

As for Christmas, I am unhappy to report that I have only bought a handful of gifts so far. Usually I am done by Thanksgiving, or almost done! My problem this year is I do not know what people want! I so hate waiting this long to get going on the shopping.

Kudos to all of you who have a jump-start on Christmas!

(I did win a local auction this week with some cool vintage Christmas ornaments though!) But our artificial tree needs to be replaced this year, and we cannot decide whether to get a pre-lit one or a non-pre-lit one, or a live one this year, so we have not even bought our tree yet. LOL

Brandi how cool to win vintage Christmas ornaments. Congratulations. Before my mom passed away I cooked for the whole family. Then after just my my family. And who ever the kids invited. Since moving to Texas like I said Babs and I would take turns between the holidays. Then daughter moved here. And I went back to cooking. This year daughter has a new friend and wants to do the cooking. Pretty much because he doesn't like coming here. But that's another story.

Enjoy you Thanksgiving with your family. I use to be done with my Christmas shopping by Thanksgiving way back. But since I only buy for the grand kids & daughter here it's easy. I just send the grand kids & kids in Calif money. Since I have no idea what they like or are into it just easier.

How did the dinner go GE?  Sorry the friend does not like going to your place.  Seems like your place has been the mecca for years, and your cooking always sounds so wonderful.

  to you Green Eyes.

Thank You Can Dinner went well. Was nice not having to do all the cooking. But I missed it also. Weird or what. The friend doesn't like cats and that's what we have.   They will be here for Christmas. He can't get out of it as youngest son will be here spending a week with us. Daughter and son are very very close.

great news that your son will be home for Christmas and also, that he and his sister are so close.
Old habits die hard, don't they?...maybe after preparing chrissy feast, you'll rethink that lol.

Good morning,

Glad to read everyone's reports and feeling happy for those whose lives are improving, whether for themselves or loved ones.  Saying prayers for all who need strength and courage to handle the pits in the road of life.
Connie was sick while we were away, but we made the best of it.  Gave her a manicure and straightened her hair for her (she is naturally curly and it is long -- took an hour).  But she looked beautiful when we went to the dinner which was indeed a Feast.  Didn't get as much sleep as I wanted, yet the change of scenery was almost as good as sleep.
But as always, it was good to get home.
We are blessed by the best!

Morning Monkeys    Continued prayers for all in need. Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving week end.

Last night our neighbors brought over a feast of a Southern Thanksgiving Dinner. All still warm from their dinner. They celebrated late so their daughter could be with them. I have no idea what most of it was. ::snowmanlaugh::There was deep fried turkey, homemade cornbread stuffing, gravy and something with greenbeans, another dish with peas and another dish with I with potatoes and something green  and the most amazing pumpkin pie. Home made cranberries. All yummy. I thought it was so sweet of them to bring it over.  Just when I was trying to figure out what to make for dinner.

That's great, GE!

The true spirit of Thanksgiving. Being thankful for the bounty of the harvest and sharing it with your neighbors.

You have nice neighbors!
