Brandi - the outbuilding is so sweet- it would make a great place to go for peace and quiet - girls spot!

Yes.

But honestly, the whole property is so secluded and surrounded by woods that I don't think I'll have a problem finding peace and quiet! I can't wait. It will be a huge difference between there and where we are located now. Too close to neighbors here. So looking forward to being at the new house.

Just one of the things I am dealing with:

Dear Doctors,

First, we want to thank you for all the care you have provided Connie.  We have always been pleased with your compassion for her, your sensitivity of her limitations, your willingness to help her, and your professionalism.

Prior to her injury at the beginning of the year, we were becoming more and more concerned about her addiction to pain medications.  One of the benefits of Connie residing in the nursing home has been the regulation of these medications.  (She hasn’t been sick to her stomach once but at home she would take handfuls of pills and then go to sleep or throw them up).  At home, most of the time she slept and when she was awake she was high.  She had even begun to walk hunched over and unable to hold her head up.  She did not/does not recognize any of this behavior as coming from medication.

Before her stroke in July 0f 2009, she would medicate herself with alcohol and this was becoming a serious concern because she had recently received a DUI.  For most of her adult life, she has not been one to have a “survivor” attitude, but rather one in which she is the “victim.”  She maintains that unhealthy attitude to this day and uses pain, tears, and guilt to try and manipulate those around her.

The bottom line, we have viewed her stay at Wicomico Nursing Home as a blessing in disguise.  At first, we wanted the goal to be her home return.  Now we realize that we no longer fear for her physical safety, her receiving well-balanced nutrition, and we no longer fear for her over-medicating herself.  None of us are prepared or willing to be her 24-hour watch dog or aide.  She unwisely believes she can handle herself at home, but if we have learned anything, we have learned she can no longer function in a private residence.  Another important issue we have come to grips with is that mentally she is not the same person she was before her stroke.  It has become clearer as we have been able to step away from the day to day routine of her care.  Also, it became painfully obvious after we traveled to Baltimore to see if she could renew her driver’s license – watching her fail so many of the cognitive parts of the testing, let alone the physical aspects, provided us with new insight as to her limitations.

Like the child she has become, Connie believes her neighbors and a friend will be able to provide for all her needs.  Not only is this unrealistic, it is not going to prove true.  (I have been a caregiver for 25 years and I know first-hand what happens – it ain’t pretty).  One temper tantrum from her will send all her “helpers” running.

We’re not really sure what we are asking of you.  We just know we want Connie to have “quality” of life as versus a “quantity” of life.  We see that happening in the nursing home and not in the apartment.

I agree so much. Sounds like Connie is where she needs to be in order to have as good a life as possible at this stage. And maybe in other stages as she reaches them.

Thanks for sharing, Sister.

You are indeed a good sister.

Well, about the plumber, he called a few days ago and changed our appointment from 8 am today to 12:30-1 pm yesterday. But then he called yesterday and needed to reschedule until next week. (He must be really busy, and that must mean he is really good. I hope.)

So we decided on next Sat. April 5 because then my hubby can be there with me Wink

Sometimes  Son called yesterday asking me if he had had the measles and chickenpox's. I laughed and told at first I think so. Got back "You Think So?"  It took me a minute to go that far back in my memory bank. Told him yes you had both and even had shingles in your senior year of high school. That remembered. I guess they is an out break of measles in Orange Co California. They are telling the adults to check to make sure you have had them I guess.

Glad you can reschedule with the plumber so your husband can be there. Great you didn't have to get so early.

I should know better than to let my husband get our oil changed in our car. Every time, he comes home having spent well over $500. He just called from the oil change place and said he is getting our brakes done, including rotors. It's going to be over $1,000.

When the heck did brake jobs get that expensive?! I just researched it, and yes, they are that expensive! Not a good time for this expense for us, we just about wiped out our bank accounts when we closed on our house last week! Oil changes have gotten very expensive too. I remember them being $19.95 LOL Now they are around $100 for synthetic. If you can get a good deal.

Oh woe is me.

I guess it's good to get them done, if they truly needed it. Will be driving 60+ highway miles round-trip a lot while we are working on the new place and moving into it. But still!

Raining today, rain expected all weekend, so hubby cannot go work in the yard clearing up old leaves, branches, etc. at the new place this weekend. He really wanted to get some stuff done there this weekend.

Hope you all are having a better weekend. Wink

Yikes Brandi at least you know you have good brakes. Up until the last 10 years hubs did all the maintenance on our cars. I got very spoiled. So now when we take them I just try and pay it and not think about what they are charging.

Sorry the rain stopped you from getting some of the yard work done on your new place. I would be so anxious to move into my new place. Maybe tomorrow it wont rain all day. One can hope.

Prayers that Connie agrees to stay there and not insist on going home.
Brandi
We are due for some warmth and sun. Looks good next week.
Green Eyes
Had to have the vet come out for Big Mac this past week. Jason pointed out his age and said he is just wearing down but is not in distress just tired. He had such a horrible life before and it took its toll on him. He just likes to stay in bed and relax.

The pollen count has been just so high recently that you can't go outside without coughing or sneezing. That should calm down in the next couple of weeks and then I can get outside for some spring clean up.

Good morning everyone!

Well, the surgeon told Connie it will be 3 more months before she will be discharged from him.  Not sure what that means for the rest of us -- but I am trying not to fret over it.
Hadn't mentioned before that since January I was taking oral chemo for the recurring ovarian cancer.  Feeling much better now, finally starting to get some energy again.
Belle is doing fine -- just not great with socialization which is my fault.  She doesn't play well with others because there are no others in her life.  The nearest dog park is miles away and right now I don't have the energy to deal with it.
George is doing good -- he will probably out live me.
I keep up with everyone even though I don't post so much.  You remain in my daily prayers.
Blessings.
And yeah! today is the beginning of baseball!!!!!
