Morning Monkeys   Hope everyone is doing well. Prayers for all in need.  Headed to the store to get a few things. It's been a very wild week here. Now have granddaughter & her 2 fur babies living with us. Good part she is away from a control freak boyfriend. Hard part getting her motivated to more forward and move on. Have youngest grandson for the week end. So have a busy house. We are going to try and go see How to Tame your Dragon 2 this morning. Then I am going to take a nap.

I always am up for a nap!

Me too Sister.  Cute Movie but it was How To Train Your Dragon. Right now I feel like I could sleep hours  . So will try and stay awake so I can make dinner for the crew in a few hours. One good thing about going to the movies so early we had our pick of seats and parking.

Hi Monkeys!

Brandi - glad to hear you are enjoying your new home.  I enjoy my roses too and always have fresh cut ones in the house when they are in bloom.  Have lost two or three and pondering whether to plant more.  Trying to stay as low maintenance as possible.

Thank you and hello, Can.

We have discovered a lot of flowers and trees on the property, it's been quite fun. There are 7 azalea plants which have finished blooming, but were just gorgeous when in bloom. Then the roses, yellow, red and several shades of pink, still in bloom. We also have a couple of peonies and lots of lilies, that have not bloomed yet. Hostas galore, wild violets and wild strawberries (which I have begun weeding out of the flower beds.) I have planted a couple of vegetable gardens, One tomatoes and the other yellow squash, pumpkins and watermelon. I am sure I have left out some flowers. Oh yes, tulips and daffodils, which have come and gone for the season, and crocuses.

Last night, we discovered that some of my favorite trees here (they look Asian and have dark purplish leaves) have lots of fruit on them! After some sleuthing, we have realized that they are cherry plums! And they are from Asia. Most people make jam with them, but they are used for fresh eating and pies and tarts, etc. I may try to give them away so they don't go to waste, as we could not possibly eat all of them (they are not quite ripe yet) and we don't eat sugar, which we'd have to use to make jam and pies. But what a fun find!

I, too bring in fresh flowers and greenery all the time. I have vases in the bathroom, the mantle, the office, the kitchen and the back porch with fresh greenery all the time. Makes me very happy. Wink

I wish you well during your renovation. I hope everything goes on schedule. Also, great news about your mother's new location near you. That's great!

Isn't it wonderful to make all these new discoveries.  Your property sounds heavenly
and you sound energized.  Wishing you and your family many happy years there.

Thanks for your wishes.

It will be wonderful to have Mom close. It will save a lot of trips back and forth, which are tiring for both of us.  Also her husband's nursing home is nearby.

Hello Monkeys,

Brandi no Gumball tree's?

Oh yes, from the evidence (18 months of the house being uninhabited and thus, not maintained) we found all down the drive and on the grounds, that we do, indeed, have several types of gumball producers, both large and larger gumballs! We also have pines, hollies, oaks, maples, cherry plums, ash and cedar trees, to name just some that we have identified. (I have been trying to identify some others recently, but just can't come to a conclusion as to what they are yet.) LOTS of trees, lots of flowers and vegetation. We are very lucky to have this home!

Thanks, Green Eyes!

I just took a photo of one of the leaves from a tree (we have lots of these trees, and lots of baby ones all over) that I cannot identify. Thought it might be an ash, or a walnut, but don't think so.

I hope someone here might know what the tree is by the photo I took. It's here: http://eenie91.zymichost.com/house/images/tree-leaf.png

I didn't post it into the forum because of its size.

Anyone have an idea what it might be?

My first thought was it's a pecan leaf, with second thought black walnut.  Not so much an ash leaf.  Any nuts on the ground?

You are good Muffy      It could be either as they both are similar. I am going with the black walnut because of the color and the number of leafs on it. Just my guess.

Decided against black walnut, since there were no nuts on the ground! (We have had a black walnut tree before, and no way all the squirrels and critters could ever get rid of the nuts,) so there would have had to be some evidence of nuts, and there is none.

Pecan would be great, but again, no evidence of nuts. and it looks like pecan tree leaves are serrated, and these aren't.

But great thoughts, thanks.

Any other suggestions?

Looks like a Walnut or Butternut according to this link:

Evening Monkeys

My oldest Granddaughter in California is leaving in the morning with her church youth group for her 10 days in Haiti to do youth ministry. While I excited for her I am also worried. I would appreciate positive thoughts and Prayers for her and her friends on their trip. They have all worked very hard to raise the money for their trip.  an angelic monkey

Well, Mother Nature gave me a hint today. We had a storm blow through here a bit ago, and I went outside afterwards to check on something and on our walkway, I found a little branch from one of these trees with these attached on it.
http://brandibb.home.comcast.net/~brandibb/trees/seeds.png

They look a lot like these I found on the web:
http://brandibb.home.comcast.net/~brandibb/trees/ash.png

After some research I was pretty convinced that these are ash keys (the seeds of an ash tree), thus the answer is they are ash trees.

Then hubby got home and did his research and thinks they may be Trees of Heaven. Oh dear, now I am not so sure what they are!

I took some pictures of the trees before it stormed today:
http://brandibb.home.comcast.net/~brandibb/trees/tree2.png
Some close-ups of smaller ones: http://brandibb.home.comcast.net/~brandibb/trees/smalls-close-up.png
And a really close-up: http://brandibb.home.comcast.net/~brandibb/trees/smalls-really-close-up.png

You can see how prolific they are by all the new ones growing all over the place on the ground in the pics.

So I am thinking either Ash or Tree of Heaven.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

What fun . . . tree identification!

I was never very good at it.  My Dad and I used to walk in the woods and he would ask what kind of tree or flower . . . after much pondering I would reply "pretty."  That's my answer and I'm sticking to it!
