OR questioning who no bed checks done and the friend is saying they were only there to help out if something major came up.

Yeah, Lord knows this wasn't major...  Rolling Eyes  If you are gonna go down there and let them do whatever they want, how does that make you a chaperone?

I hope they all had to pay for their own tickets and rooms at least since they didn't bother to even watch the kids.

Maybe Chaperone was a bad term used in this because a true chaperone does more than these people were there to do.  Understand people, these "chaperones" were only there in case of emergency.  Yes, obviously this is an emergency, but what were they to do?  18 year olds go away all the time without any supervision!  These kids were allowed to do what they want and were trusted to be careful and do as they please!  No where was it expected there'd be bed checks, etc!  Get over it, the chaperones are not to blame AT ALL.  Let's not start arguing about that again!

kuiatzu, diversion tactics by the authorities are ok as long as they are still making progress on the case.

Diversionary tactics by the perpetrators better be very extraordinarily sharp, because the FBI is the best in the world.

Wow, Amy (aka dontblamethevictim), you sure seem to be blaming the chaperones, who were victims too.  O'Reilly's assertion that they're wrong not to go on his show is ludicrous.  Since when is it a requirement to go on a freaking TV show, particularly where they'll be berated by an overbearing boor??

What made me skeptical of "panty guy" when I saw the broadcast..is that he described the panties to the reporter to a T. Now how many guys would be able to describe something perfectly..right down to "vimins pawnties viv flowvers"they just picked up on the beach. I think it was another diversion tactic.

Did this kid really work for the radio station?  Publicity stunt for them perhaps???

ON the drug point.  Pot was legal in some of the countries we visited.  We had a problem at one hotel and the staff did not help us.  But with reservations and  transportation issues you just can't pluck up a big group of kids and leave.

You just have to do the best you can.

Hi all!  Just checkin' in.  Tryin to catch up.  Has Dash been around? I haven't seen yet.

Also, I been studying the "Evlen Woodhead Sped Riddin Corse" so I can keep up with you ppl.  Based on prev. posts, I guess I risk offending(hope not) but wanted to say hi.  Thought it might be OK, newbies or not.  Hope I'm welcome!  I'll try to stay in shadows and not let y'all know what I know. OK?  Anyway, hope you're all feeling fine.  See ya!

TT!! As you can tell, I don't pay attention to those who don't like me posting  Very Happy

Hi TTown:  I lurk around myself as to not offend.  But it seems to me that more can be accomplished in a congengial work environment than in an adversarial one.  Haven't seen Dash on today.

This get tough.  These kids were legal adults.  Others their age right out of high school are moving into apartements, heading to bootcamp, going to college.

A trip with young adults which is NOT an official school function has facilitators more than chaperones.

I chaperoned a huge group of 86 (not alone) on a 16 day tour of Eastern Europe in 89.  We had kids as old as 22--and as young as 12.

For that reason the ones who were of legal age had to sign a contract setting aside their "adult" rights for the duration of the trip.
Still, I had a group of kids who were out of high school.  You don't watch them like they are 15 year olds.

I do not blame the chaperones.  I blame whoever hurt Natalie.

I so totally agree, besides the fact, these parents signed a waiver too, these chaperones were there to assist in "passport issues, and complications concerning the trip" by the time time this complicated matter happened, it was time to head home, no fault to the chaperones AT ALL !!!!!!!

Dash briefly posted under a different name.  mbhs05 checked in around noon and then thought it best to get off for awhile.  In fact someone here suggested it was time for another movie and she agreed that might be the healthiest thing for her to do.

Although I don't think the chaperones should ever talk to the media to begin with, I did find it strange that O'Reilly said they were coming on and then POOF...no chaperones, only their "friend".

I found that strange too.  Maybe one of the chaperones were supposed to come on, but decided to back out.  O'Reilly was pretty ticked that none of  the chaperones have spoken yet on NH.

OK..that's the main points people. Sorry if it ws sketchy but I got the good things  Very Happy

again...I am a teacher...not a typist!!!

Hey, you did good.  You get an A for that.  Thanks

I also want to add, I watched O'Reilly factor too--everything said mostly covered it--but O'reilly was insisting, why the chaperones would keep the kids there with the drug dealers, shouldn't that have ended the trip.

Here is my ?--Those students have returned to the US, correct.  And visitors come to visit the US also........we have drug dealers HERE in the US--should we all pack up and go somewhere else???

Also, it is constantly brought up why the students were allowed to drink--IT IS LEGAL AT 18 TO DRINK THERE.  Same reason why Spring Breakers go to Mexico and other destinations where 18 is the legal drinking age.

Sorry--I am off my PMS rampage!

Thanks for adding that, Jennifer! (PMS...ugh...the thought makes me cringe)

O'Reilly isn't helping by looking for the chaperones.  How about if he does his story on how Aruba has drug lords and maybe we, the United States, can use this opportunity to round 'em up and help this sweet little island.

CNN is saying that Deepak worked at Cyberzone Internet Cafe, that was how he knew Steve. The boat has not been searched, the boss not questioned.

The most significant thing today was the morning announcement in Aruba that the investigation once again thinks that Natalee is alive.

To which we all went ape.  There are still many scenarios that have her coming home out of this.

The "new" arrest was reported on local Aruba radio, so it hasn't been picked up yet by the MSM.
