Officials searching for NC woman missing in Tenn.

Posted on: 9:17 am, May 31, 2013, by Web Staff

Officials in Tennessee are searching for a 39-year-old Charlotte woman who went missing while visiting her family.

Tennessee police said 39-year-old Holly Fischer left her parents’ house in Knoxville on Monday and was traveling home to Charlotte. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since, according to WSOC.

According to a police report, Fischer’s father said his daughter was upset when she left his home because she’s going through a divorce. The father said he contacted Fischer’s husband, but he said he has not seen her since she went to Tennessee.

Police said Fischer’s cellphone pinged more than 100 miles away in Ashe, N.C.

Friends are pleading Thursday with the public for help in finding her.

Search continues for missing Charlotte woman

Crews searched on foot and by helicopter Friday in North Carolina’s mountains, looking for a 39-year-old Charlotte woman who hasn’t been seen since leaving her parent’s home Monday in Tennessee.

Holly Fischer told her parents, Ted and Leslie, that she was headed home to Charlotte.

She never made it, however, and authorities say they are focusing on Ashe and Wilkes counties, about 100 miles north of Charlotte, because her cell phone was used in that area as late as Thursday afternoon.

“This is a complex investigation, being conducted by several law enforcement agencies,” Hillary Coward, a spokeswoman for the Knox County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office, said Friday.

Authorities say Fischer used her bank card Monday afternoon at a convenience store on Interstate 40 in Newport, Tenn., east of Knoxville and along the route she always traveled between her parents’ home and Charlotte. She has not been seen since.

Her roommate at a South End apartment called Fischer’s parents Wednesday when she had not returned, and the parents then contacted Knox County authorities.

Missing NC Woman Holly Fischer: Divorce To Ali Girit Pending Upset Her- Tennesse Police Ask For Public Help

Friday 31 May 2013 5:36 pm

Holly Christine Fischer, 39, has been missing since Monday May 27th.

She has not been seen nor heard from since leaving her parents’ home in Knoxville, TN according to a missing persons report filed by her Father Ted.

Ted Fischer described his daughter as “upset” when she left the home Memorial Day- over her pending divorce from estranged husband Ali Ozan Girit. Fischer states that he spoke to Girit and inquired as to his daughter’s whereabouts but Girit proclaimed he has not seen Holly since she left Tennessee.

Holly Fischer, a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Parsons School of Design was a regional sales manager for Discovery Communications through last year.

She has worked in the fashion and design industry for brands like Club Monaco and DKNY.

Girit, a competitive bodybuilder and training manger of LA Fitness according to his linked in profile, signed over a deed to the couples Huntersville home in January of this year. Girit is a former resident of Weehawken, NJ and worked security in New York City in 2009.

Holly Fischer Missing: Friend's Plead For Woman's Safe Return
Posted: 05/31/2013 8:38 pm EDT

Friends of a 39-year-old woman who has been missing since earlier this week are appealing for help locating her.

Family members last saw Holly Fischer on Monday, when she left her parents' home in Knox County, Tenn., presumably for her home in Charlotte, N.C. On Wednesday, her roommate called Fischer's parents and told them Fischer hadn't returned. The concerned parents then contacted Knox County authorities and reported her missing.

"We are deeply worried about her," Fischer's friend, Larisa Markanian, told The Huffington Post. "She would not have taken off without contacting one of us. Something is terribly wrong."

Investigators learned Fischer last used her bank card Monday afternoon, at a convenience store in Newport, Tenn. The store is situated along Interstate 40, her usual route of travel when visiting her parents. There has been no bank activity since, police said.

Fischer's cell phone records indicate her phone pinged a tower on Thursday, in a mountainous area along N.C. 16 and the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 100 miles north of Charlotte in Ashe County, the county sheriff's office said.

Using the cellphone data, police focused their search on Ashe and Wilkes counties. Local law enforcement officials, along with a North Carolina Highway Patrol helicopter unit, spent three days combing the area.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee is asking for the public's assistance in locating a Charlotte woman who was last seen in their area.

Holly Fischer, 39, was last seen on May 27, in Newport, Tennessee by her father.

Friday, law enforcement officials from Ashe and Wilkes Counties, along with Ashe County Rescue Squad and fire departments from Glendale Springs and Wilbar, were on scene and assisting with the search. The North Carolina Highway Patrol also sent a search unit via helicopter to search the area.

Thursday, officials from Knoxville, TN, completed a cell tower ping of her cell phone. Her last known location by use of cell phone was in Ashe County on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sheriff Williams stated that "Getting an exact location of the phone is made more difficult by the rugged terrain."

39 Year Old North Carolina Woman Holly Christine Fischer Missing Since 5/27/13 in Knoxville, TN

Authorities are focusing their search on Ashe and Wilkes counties, about 100 miles north of Charlotte, NC. This is a rather bizarre route to take home from Knoxville, TN to Charlotte, NC. Having made the trip in the past from Knoxville to Charlotte, I took Rt. 40 east toward Asheville, then Rt. 16 pretty much the rest of the way. The trip should only take about 4 to 4-1/2 hours.

I would agree, something is up because the route she took was hardly the way one would ever take to travel from Knoxville, TN to Charlotte, NC. As stated above, having made this trip before, would never have taken the route she did. Hopefully, he vehicle is not down off in a ravine.

I see no mention of a vehicle......???

Nut I included it in my piece:

Holly is believed to be driving her vehicle- a  UPDATE: DARK GRAY*  2004 Infinity FX 35 and was last seen in Newport wearing a white blouse, denim shorts and sandals. She is blonde with brown eyes, approximately 5’10” and 140 lbs.
Her license plate is registered in North Carolina DMV and is XYH6678. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is JNRAS08W64X203396

I was asked by LE to change the car color, although her VIN comes back silver- not uncommon.

It is my understanding that her stop at an atm and McD's have been confirmed.    What I am not understanding is how no confirmed cell ping study has been released.  For all anyone knows they are looking for a phone and not her or her car.  In fact, I would offer that if she met with foul play,  could be the case.

The ping study will indicate when the phone is off/on.  That is critical as to timeline.

Friends of a missing Charlotte woman say they have confirmed the last place she was before she disappeared.

"We know that at 5:58 p.m. on Monday, Holly was in North Wilkesboro," said her longtime friend Liz Stafford Ajello.

Park Police say Holly's cellphone was pinged on park property, giving search operations a more specified area to look.

Quote
The last "ping" was detected near Wilkesboro, about 20 minutes from her parents' mountain home in West Jefferson.

That is where Ajello said she and friends started their search of nearby roads on Sunday.

People met at the McDonald's on U.S. 421 at Hwy. 16 at 9:30 Sunday morning.

"We are going to search all day, " said friend Nicole cooper "...as long as the sun allows. Then we'll go back out tomorrow if we have to."

Another group of searchers, some who they don't know, will meet them along the way.

"This is great so many people are helping out to find Holly." said Cooper.

The group took flyers of the missing 39-year-old woman to hand out in the area.

Good Evening Monkeys!

I mapped out the way we go to the Mountains but don't know how to bring it over. the link is
http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Newport,+TN&daddr=Ashe,+NC+to:Charlotte,+NC&hl=en&ll=35.969115,-82.051392&spn=2.125036,3.911133&sll=35.964669,-82.073364&ssp

I think her phone pings are trying to divert attention from her usual route.

Missing Charlotte woman’s vehicle found in Wilkes County
Posted: Monday, Jun. 03, 2013

The vehicle driven by a Charlotte woman who has been missing for a week was found overnight in a mountain area near the Wilkes-Ashe county line, a source at the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning.

The 2004 Infiniti SUV driven by Holly Fischer, 39, was discovered down a steep ravine off N.C. 16, a short distance southeast of the county line in Wilkes County.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office called a news conference Monday morning. A spokesman for the sheriff said there would be “an update” on the case.

The site of the news conference this morning, Piney Ridge Baptist Church on N.C. 16 North, is not far from the Ashe County line and is near where a motorcyclist spotted car tracks off the road late Sunday night.

According to multiple media reports Monday morning, a motorcyclist traveling along N.C. 16, in Wilkes County, about 1 1/2 miles southeast of the Blue Ridge Parkway, found tracks off the road. Searchers followed the tracks and discovered a vehicle.

It is not known if anyone was found in the car.

Sheriff: Car found in connection with missing Charlotte woman

A motorcyclist had pulled off the side of the road Sunday and noticed it looked like a car went off the road.  That driver notified police, who found the car down a steep embankment.
