I hope there is no behind the scenes negotiations that will benefit Jodi ... that will negate another trial.  I am so done with only a measure of justice afforded victims in so many cases.

Janet

I don't think there will be.

I think everything is slated to go ahead (eventually) and seat a jury for the sentencing phase.

It's just all these senseless motions the defense has continued to file that seems to be holding things up.

Soon, I think they will be out of motions to file.

You are probably right.  I have to remain optimistic that justice will prevail for Travis.  When I consider only the measure of justice and sometimes no justice forthcoming for victims in so many cases discussed on SM forums ... I become discouraged.

Sometimes, I have to double-check to see if I am in the Travis Alexander thread.

I hope we hear something about this hearing today at 1:15 AZ time.

I will be searching all day for reports on the hearing, although it is a closed hearing.

Wild About Trial says they will be at the courthouse.

I am hoping a date will be set today for the penalty phase trial.

Monster’ Jodi Arias’ Trial Date Set For February, Reveals Travis Alexander’s Brother
http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/12/jodi-arias-trial-date-february-travis-alexander-murder-brother-calls-her-monster/

Jodi Arias Trial News Update: Travis Alexander's Brother Reveals Date for Arias Retrial
Dec 13, 2013 11:08 AM EST

Despite Jodi Arias' efforts to push back her retrial, a date has been set for the convicted killer's sentencing trial.

<snipped>

According to Alexander's family, Arias has tried to push the date back for her next trial in order to thwart their efforts. However, Alexander's brother, Steven, declared that they have not been deterred. On Facebook, he revealed that the sentencing trial for the "monster that haunts" his family will begin in February of next year.

"Letting everybody know the trial isn't due to start until mid February," he wrote in a  Facebook post that was shared by the Justice for Travis fan page

"We believe this is a tactic to try and get us to throw in the towel," he said about the situation, adding that his family will continue to seek the death penalty for Arias.

"We will not! I say it again it won't happen. Our family will come together and see it through until it is finished. There is a monster that haunts us, but once the correct sentence is given, it's her who will be haunted until the most humane punishment comes to her. Nothing compared to the sentence she gave to a good man."

MCSO: Arias wanted Milke as a neighbor in jail
Posted: Dec 12, 2013 11:10 PM EST Updated: Dec 13, 2013 10:24 AM EST By Troy Hayden, FOX 10 News

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- They are maybe the two highest profile female criminals in Arizona. One of them has been on death row. One of them may soon be going there -- and both of them are going to be in court Friday.

Debra Milke was convicted of taking part in the murder of her young son more than 20 years ago.  She was recently released from prison and may be re-tried.

Jodi Arias is facing a re-trial in the sentencing phase of her murder case and could take Milke's place on death row.

And there's another connection between the two women.

For a short time earlier this year, Milke was moved from Perryville Prison to the Maricopa County Jail so she could attend court hearings in her case.

Arias found out about that and made efforts to get Milke in the cell right next to her.

Milke was on Arizona's death row for over two decades.  Arias may soon be headed there, so maybe it's not that surprising to learn that when Milke was going through new court hearings this year and was briefly put in the Maricopa County Jail, Arias sent a request to jail administrators, according to the sheriff's office.  That request: Would they put Milke in the cell right next to her?

It's as close as you can get in this unit where women are housed one to a cell and the only way to speak is through a small metal grate in the door.

The request was refused.  A sheriff's office spokesperson releasing a statement saying simply, "We don't allow inmates to pick their cellies.. this isn't a hotel."

Why did Jodi want her so close?
<snipped> Much more at the link.

Such a manipulative monster. Good to see most of her requests have been denied.

To be clear, that is just a date for another closed hearing.

Not the date for retrial of the penalty phase.

We just wait and wait. Then wait some more.

I know this waiting and waiting is bugging me. She should be locked up sitting on death row.

Jodi Areas attorneys imo are intentionally trying to subvert the justice system and the judge
should be a stop to it and place a court date.

From last June
Jodi Arias Attorneys Seek Delay Of Second Penalty Phase
In a motion filed this week, they are seeking a new trial date for January.

I believe all of the motions the defense keeps making is indeed a stall technique (that's the defense's job) but I also think these motions are helping those who want Jodi to pay for her crimes. They will help when she has her automatic appeal, making sure she has less to argue about having had a fair trial. I probably am in a minority here, but I believe Judge Stephens has been doing a good job, hearing the motions and denying 99% of them. Remember, so much is under seal at this time, we are not privy to everything that is happening anymore. There is also speculation about a gag order having been ordered in this case as well.

I believe a court date may have already been set.

I feel that the penalty phase trial will probably begin in February and we'll see what the next jury agrees to.

Kermit, that red in your post is difficult for me to read. Sad

I think you may be correct about the judge making sure she dots every i to any chance of appeal in this case.

Thanks.

Yup ... that's her job too. I think everyone in this case is doing his job well.

If you know what I mean.
