For sale: Jodi Arias auctions glasses worn at trial

Clear frames worn by Jodi Arias during her 2013 murder trial up for auction on her website
Starting bid for the glasses is $500
Auction listing posted day before judge granted Arias’ motion to stop representing herself

Forget seeing the world through rose-colored lenses. Now you have the opportunity to view life through the specs of convicted murderer Jodi Arias!

The infamous clear frames worn by Arias during her 2013 trial are up for auction on her website.

“Get ready to own a one-of-a kind piece of history,” the listing reads. It states that 100% of the auction proceeds will go a Phoenix-based non-profit, but it does not specify which one.

The starting bid for the glasses is $500.

The auction listing was posted the day before Arias returned to court Monday for a hearing on media coverage of her trial.

In August, Arias said that the proceeds from a $1,500 piece of artwork titled “Pinwheel” would be donated to a nonprofit in the name of her ex-boyfriend and victim, Travis Alexander.

She said: “100% of the net proceeds from the sale of Pinwheel will be donated in Travis’ name to a reputable nonprofit organization that helps children. The organization and exact amount donated will be disclosed after the sale. I am aware that many of my supporters despise Travis and will not agree with my doing this. Please understand that my reasons are complex and ones that I hope to be able to explain in a forthcoming blog post.”

What Travis really needed wasn't a donation to a non-profit.  What he really needed was his life, which Jodi Arias took from him in a very long and painful fashion.  What an idiot you are, Jodi.  We are not impressed.

http://www.examiner.com/article/jodi-arias-trial-camera-motions-heard-court-mitigation-specialist-under-scr

Jodi Arias camera motions heard in court, mitigation specialist under scrutiny

Media attorney David Bodney who represents many media outlets, such as CNN and Arizona Republic, has been "fighting for transparency" on the retrial of the sentencing phase of the Jodi Arias trial

David Bodney appeared in court today to present his concerns, and argue for an amendment to Judge Sherry Stephen's recent ruling on media blackout according to HLN TV Sept. 15. A ruling will be made on that this week.

In other Jodi Arias updates, her mitigation specialist Maria de la Rosa is under more scrutiny than ever. The Toronto Relationships Examiner recently reported a leaked audio that was released last week from someone in the Jodi Arias camp. The leaked audio was a telephone recording between Jodi Arias and a member of an organization that has been helping Jodi Arias raise funds. We have learned that all documentation regarding that leaked recording has a trail with many fingers pointing back to Maria de la Rosa as a key member involved in that phone call.

If Maria de la Rosa is in fact associated with that phone call, that would mean she is also aiding and abetting a jail inmate in not only participating in third party phone calls, but also in recording them. She would also be either directly associated with someone that disseminated that call to the public, or be directly involved with that activity herself.

The first 15 minutes of the hearing were sealed in the Maricopa County court today. Following that, the court heard Jodi Arias motions in her recent decision to recuse herself from her pro se rights, her rights to self-represent. Judge Stephens then explained the terms of this, which Jodi agreed to, according to Jenn Wood of the Trial Diaries while court was in session.

Jodi then requested an ex parte in order to explain her reasoning behind this decision. An ex parte would be a hearing in Judge chambers in private, without the prosecution present. Judge Stephens denied this motion, but granted Jodi's motion to relinquish her ex parte rights in this trial. This puts Kirk Nurmi back in first chair of the Jodi Arias defense team.

It is clear from recent events that the Sheriff also has had enough of Jodi Arias trying to manipulate the media. In a letter dated Sept. 4, 2014, Sherriff Joe Arpaio of the Maricopa County Sherriff's Office released a statement to a media outlet that was seeking access to Jodi Arias for an interview. The letter was to a lawyer representing an Olivia Klaus, who wants to do a documentary film about Jodi Arias.

Sheriff Joe's response detailed a lengthy amount of angst, over the media circus previously succumbed to by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office during the Jodi Arias trial. In the letter that can be seen in the slideshow, Sherriff Joe also discussed the camera motions that have been before the courts multiple times since the guilty verdict was rendered. In conclusion to the lawyer representing film maker Olivia Klaus, Sheriff Joe said,

"I am concerned that Ms. Arias is now attempting to manipulate you and the Sheriff's Office by handpicking media outlets which she feels may portray her in a more favorable light. And while that is completely understandable under the circumstances, as Sheriff in charge of Ms. Arias' incarceration, I do not feel it is in the community's best interest, to play into her hands and glamorize this inmate, her crime, and her tale of woe.

Nor is it appropriate to involve this Office, even peripherally, in inmate Arias's commercial ventures tangential to her trial. I have denied your request."
Interestingly enough, by all accounts, this Olivia Klaus is not just another unbiased member of the media seeking access to Jodi Arias. Her previous work suggests that the film she is hoping to make on Jodi Arias will be one that focuses on Jodi's abuse allegations. Those allegations of Jodi's would be that she was abused at the hands of Travis Alexander.

Apparently the ruling on David Bodney's motion concerning the media blackout was not made today, although I believe it was expected this week.

Interesting that it is taking this long.

So there will be no  live broadcasting during the sentencing trial , but everyone will be able to attend. Can't say it surprises me.

Thanks for the up date Brandi.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/laurieroberts/2014/09/22/jodi-arias-video-blackout-judge-rules/16057139/

The First Amendment took a hit on Monday morning as a Maricopa County Superior Court judge barred the airing of TV footage during the upcoming sentencing trial of Jodi Arias.

Judge Sherry Stephens said there's a reason why she won't allow any broadcast of anything in the courtroom until after Arias is given life or death.

"The Court is mindful of its obligation to allow public and media access to the trial," Stephens wrote. "That access should not include live broadcast of the trial prior to a verdict for the reasons addressed in previous sealed proceedings. The public and media may attend the penalty phase trial each day."

In other words, the reason is a secret.

Meanwhile, Stephens has already decreed that there will be no live streaming of the sentencing trial, no live Tweeting or Facebooking or, well, anything.
What's happens next time a judge doesn't want anyone to see what goes on in his or her courtroom? A ban on cameras altogether? Or maybe ban on reporters?

A padlock for the courtroom door?

If the public had influenced the jury. Arias would already be sitting on death row.  AMEN TO THAT !!

This is, IMO, an excellent read

http://www.examiner.com/article/jodi-arias-updates-camera-ruling-plus-the-truth-about-her-rose-colored-glasses

Trial watchers that have been following the case of the State of Arizona versus Jodi Arias, trial for the murder of Travis Alexander have been waiting with breath that is baited for a glimpse of where Judge Sherry Stephens stands on First Amendment rights. In May of this year, Judge Stephens handed down a shocking ruling that blacked out any media airing of the retrial of the penalty phase of the Jodi Arias trial until after the verdict is read. For over a year, media attorney David Bodney has been arguing for the public's First Amendment rights in this trial, and in recent months has been arguing for an amendment to that ruling that will lift the blackout until after court session daily. On Sept. 20, representing and writing for AZ Central, David Bodney took his arguments public to report why "the people should be allowed to watch the evidence unfold." We have learned through Maricopa County Superior Court minutes today that Bodney's motion was denied.

We have also been following the story of a leaked phone call that was released from someone behind the scenes of the Jodi Arias camp the first week of September. Additionally many media outlets reported last week that a pair of glasses worn by the accused during the Jodi Arias trial in 2013 had been put up for auction.

There are so many great points in this article.....it's long but well worth the read.

Jodi Arias set for 1 more hearing later this week ahead of penalty phase retrial

PHOENIX — Jodi Arias is set for a court appearance later this week ahead of the start of jury selection in her penalty phase retrial.

The 34-year-old was found guilty of murder last year in the 2008 killing of her ex-boyfriend but jurors couldn't agree on a sentence. While her conviction stands, the retrial will determine whether she is sentenced to death or life in prison.

Arias is set for court Friday with jury selection beginning Monday.

The retrial is expected to last into December. It will not be televised live after the judge ruled that no video footage may be broadcast until after the verdict.

Brandi,
Have you heard if there will be journalists allowed in court or those women of Dr. Drews to report on the daily testimony?
