Welp ... no verdict reached today. Court is over. Jury was instructed to go back and "try harder" to reach a verdict earlier today.

Waiting, waiting. Maybe tomorrow.

Jodi Arias trial: Verdict watch, deliberations continue after impasse
6:31 p.m. MST March 3, 2015

Just like the jury in her first trial, the second jury pondering the life or death sentence of Jodi Arias came to an impasse Tuesday in Maricopa County Superior Court.

But it's not over yet.

Shortly before noon Tuesday, the jury foreperson sent two written questions to Judge Sherry Stephens, who briefly consulted with the prosecutor and the defense attorneys in the case. Then, an hour later, she called the jury into the courtroom, and without revealing the questions, read them an "impasse instruction," and asked the jurors to go back to the jury room and deliberate more.

Though it's hard to read the intent of jurors, reporters noticed Monday night that the jurors were no longer going on breaks en masse, but rather in groups, and that they wore serious, strained expressions of their faces. That impression was confirmed with Tuesday's news of impasse.

Though the judge met again with the attorneys for another question later Tuesday afternoon, the jury left at the end of the day without imposing a sentence. They were to return this morning.

Jodi Arias verdict: Jury at impasse during deliberations, judge says keep going
Posted: 2:26 PM, Mar 3, 2015
Updated: 7 mins ago

On Tuesday, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens denied a request by Arias' attorneys for a mistrial and instead read additional jury instructions to the jury in her sentencing retrial.

Jurors later went home without reaching a verdict after about 20 hours of deliberation over four days. They will return Wednesday.

Defense attorney Kirk Nurmi said in court that jurors were at an impasse, though the judge and prosecutor Juan Martinez never confirmed that in open court.

Jurors posed two questions to Stephens, who didn't reveal details. The judge and lawyers held closed-door discussions shortly before jurors were brought into the courtroom.

Stephens told them that she didn't intend to force a verdict and said in her instructions that jurors shouldn't weigh evidence based on the views of other jurors.

::sigh::
I read that the jury deliberated 26 1/2 hours so far...maybe we'll have a verdict tomorrow.  Waiting for justice!

Jodi Arias jury deliberation continues Thursday
5:08 p.m. MST March 4, 2015

The jury in the Jodi Arias sentencing retrial will deliberate for another day. Against expectations, the jury deliberated all day Wednesday without coming to a decision.

Judge Sherry Stephens gave the jury instructions to break a deadlock on Tuesday, leading many to speculate that deliberations would end in a hung jury on Wednesday. Instead, the jury worked all day without taking a lunch break and left at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Court officials say in the case of a hung jury, Arias is entitled to submit sentencing briefs. Those must be filed within 30 days, and Judge Stephens has 45 days to decide on a sentence and schedule a hearing.
