Friend of George Zimmerman claims Tracy Martin cursed at him
Timothy Tucholski says Martin called him 'motherf*****'

June 24, 2013

SANFORD, Fla. -
A friend of George Zimmerman claims Tracy Martin, the father of Trayvon Martin, cursed at him inside the courthouse, calling him a "motherf*****."
Following opening statements in Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial, a brief hearing was held outside the presence of the jury.  During the hearing, Timothy Tucholski said Tracy Martin cursed at him either last Tuesday or the week before.
"(Tracy Martin) looked down at my badge (name tag) or chest area and said motherf***** under his breath," Tucholski said.

Tucholski's badge identified him as a family member, although he's a friend of Zimmerman.

The hearing was held as Zimmerman attorney Mark O'Mara tried to get permission for his client's parents to attend their son's trial.  They cannot be present because they are potential witnesses but will be allowed to attend once they testify or are removed from the witness list.

O'Mara argued that Tracy Martin should also not be allowed to attend because his alleged cursing broke rules set forth by Judge Debra Nelson about emotional outbursts.

Nelson ruled that Tracy Martin can remain in the courtroom.

Nelson ruled earlier in the day that Martin family attorney Ben Crump, who's also a potential witness, could also not attend the trial unless Trayvon Martin's parents were unable to do so.

Zimmerman opening statements: Expletives and a knock-knock joke
June 24, 2013

Editor's note: This story contains language that may offend some readers.
(CNN) -- A prosecuting attorney greeted the jury in the George Zimmerman trial Monday with a quote full of expletives, while his adversary decided it was appropriate to tell jurors a knock-knock joke.
And that was just the beginning of opening statements in Zimmerman's long-anticipated murder trial.
In a case that has ignited national debate about gun laws and race relations, Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, is accused of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012 in Sanford, Florida.
Prosecutor John Guy's first words to the six-woman jury may have raised a few eyebrows.
"Good morning. 'F*****g punks, these a******s all get away,'" Guy quoted Zimmerman. "These were the words in this grown man's mouth as he followed this boy that he didn't know. Those were his words, not mine."
Zimmerman, Guy said, "got out of his car with a pistol and two flashlights to follow Trayvon Benjamin Martin, who was walking home from a 7-Eleven, armed" with a fruit drink and a bag of candy. Eventually the two became entangled on the ground in a fight. A witness has said Martin was on top of Zimmerman, Guy said.
"The defendant claims that while Trayvon Martin was on top of him, he said, 'you are going to die tonight,'" said Guy. "Nobody heard that."
Guy told jurors that no witnesses saw what happened the night of the shooting from beginning to end. Witnesses only saw "slices" of what happened, he said.

"We are confident that at the end of this trial you will know in your head, in your heart, in your stomach that George Zimmerman did not shoot Trayvon Martin because he had to," Guy said. "He shot him for the worst of all reasons, because he wanted to."
The Martin family sat watching the proceedings behind State Attorney Angela Corey. Zimmerman's parents were seated behind the defendant in the second row. The pews in the public gallery were filled to capacity.
At one point, Martin's father began crying as Guy detailed how officers tried to save his son's life. Zimmerman has mostly stared straight ahead without any signs of emotion.
Following Guy's statement, defense attorney Don West came forward to woo the jury. As he began, he told a knock-knock joke. But it failed to win a laugh. "Knock knock. Who's there? George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman who? Good, you're on the jury," he said.
West quickly got on with the business of making his case: that Zimmerman was forced to act in self-defense to save his own life.
"The evidence will show this is a sad case; no monsters here. ... George Zimmerman is not guilty of murder. He shot Trayvon Martin after he was viciously attacked."
With the help of PowerPoint visuals, West spent hours hammering away at his argument.
He broke down Zimmerman's non-emergency 911 call in which he first reported seeing Martin and told about following him.
"Little did George Zimmerman know at the time in less than 10 minutes from him first seeing Travyon Martin that he, George Zimmerman, would be suckered punched in the face, have his head pounded on concrete and wind up shooting and tragically killing Trayvon Martin," West told jurors.
West also deconstructed a 911 call a neighbor made, in which it is possible to hear screams and a shot in the background that West said was the sound of the fatal bullet.
As the dramatic recording audio filled the courtroom, Zimmerman showed no emotion. Martin's mother left the courtroom.
West quoted a witness named John Good who described the fight. "He called it a 'ground and pound' by Martin, who he said was on top of Zimmerman, beating him "senseless."
He saw enough that this was serious," West said. Zimmerman cried out for help, looked at Good and said, "help me." But the beating continued while Good went inside his home to call 911, West said.
There was a shot. Shortly afterward, according to West, Zimmerman said Martin "was beating me up, and I shot him."

Trayvon Martin Shooting Fast Facts
June 22, 2013

(CNN) -- Here's a look at what you need to know about the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Former neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman has been charged in the shooting.

Facts:
Trayvon Benjamin Martin, born February 5, 1995, was a 17-year-old African-American high school student who lived in Miami Gardens, Florida with his mother Sybrina Fulton. In February 2012, Martin was visting his father Tracy Martin in Sanford, Florida after receiving a ten-day suspension from Krop Senior High School. The suspension stemmed from the discovery of drug residue in Martin's book bag.
George Michael Zimmerman, born October 5, 1983, was a part-time student at Seminole State College and a neighborhood watch captain at the Retreat at Twin Lakes gated community in Sanford at the time of the shooting. He is married to Shellie (Dean) Zimmerman and is the son of Robert and Gladys Zimmerman.
Timeline:
February 26, 2012 - George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Florida, calls 911 to report "a suspicious person" in the neighborhood. He is instructed not to get out of his SUV or approach the person. Zimmerman disregards the instructions. Moments later, neighbors report hearing gunfire. Zimmerman acknowledges that he shot Martin, claiming it was in self-defense. In a police report, Officer Timothy Smith writes that Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose and back of the head.
February 27, 2012 - Martin's father, Tracy Martin, files a missing persons report. Officers with the Sanford Police Department visit Tracy Martin. He is able to identify Trayvon Martin's body using a photo.
March 8, 2102 - Investigators receive a fax from the Altamonte Family Practice containing the medical records identifying the injuries sustained by Zimmerman on the night of the shooting: Open wound of scalp, without mention of complication; nasal bones, closed fracture; assault by other specified means.

Hi Monkey's,

What is with the Knock, Knock, joke?

I listened to Fox, Mark Fuhrman, had a few things to say about it.

There is no video posted for Mr. Fuhrman's opinions.

It was so good to see Mr. Fuhrman

Really, when was the last time that you heard a Knock, Knock, joke?

I see that this wasn't answered, so here goes the lame attempt at the knock, knock joke from todays trial:

From Defense attorney West:

“Knock-knock,” he began “Who’s there? George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman who? Good you are on the jury.”

VIDEO here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WpQSJVgKn8k

YIKES.

Tomorrow West will receipt a limerick, there once was a defendant from Nantucket ...

Sorry MuffyBee, did not see that comment. My bad.

And yes it was inappropriate. Actually, I can't believe either other the opening statements. Hardly will go down in the annals of Barrister history.

Lawyers reveal diverging strategies in George Zimmerman trial

SANFORD --  When George Zimmerman spotted Trayvon Benjamin Martin on a rainy February night as the Miami Gardens teen returned from a convenience store with a can of Arizona fruit punch and a bag of Skittles, Zimmerman saw a troublemaker, a “f---ing punk” up to no good, prosecutors said Monday.

So Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer already alarmed by a recent rash of burglaries in his gated community, pursued Trayvon with a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol at the ready, fatally shooting the Miami Gardens teen. In a fast-moving opening statement, assistant state attorney John Guy described the volunteer as a vigilante on a mission to rid his block of “a--holes” like Trayvon.

The defense countered that Zimmerman was forced into a confrontation he didn’t want. As a concerned citizen trying to protect his neighborhood, Zimmerman only shot to save his own life after he was viciously attacked, his attorney, Don West, told jurors.

The sharply different pictures of what happened on February 26, 2012, in a townhouse complex in this Central Florida city emerged during opening arguments in a case that has grabbed headlines for more than a year and focused renewed attention on the country’s enduring struggle with race. Zimmerman’s delayed arrest sparked civil unrest including marches and protests across the country and in Sanford.

But inside the fifth-floor courtroom where every seat was taken Monday, Zimmerman’s second-degree murder trial is likely to explore particular moments from the night Trayvon was killed, such as the minutes that Zimmerman followed him, the screams on 911 recordings and the extent of Zimmerman’s injuries from his scuffle with the teen.

On Monday, attorneys from both sides addressed those issues in their opening remarks to jurors but asked them to draw contrasting conclusions.

Mystery girl to testify in Trayvon Martin murder case

Posted June 25, 2013, at 6:15 a.m.

SANFORD, Fla. — Prosecutors in the Florida murder trial of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman will reveal a star witness for the first time on Tuesday, the girl Trayvon Martin was talking with in the last minutes of his life.

The teenage girl, known as Witness #8 until now, was due to testify about what Martin, the unarmed black 17-year-old shot and killed by Zimmerman last year, told her what he saw that night.

Identified in court on Monday only as Rachel, a friend of Martin from Miami, she received a running account about what was happening, starting when he noticed a man, Zimmerman, watching him in the gated central Florida community he was visiting.
