 Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez had the media following his every move on Thursday — from his house in North Attleborough, to the Patriots' Gillette Stadium, a gas station and, finally, his lawyers' office in Boston — but cops were more interested in what's been going on inside in the 23-year-old's sprawling mansion.

Hernandez's home security system — which includes video surveillance — was destroyed and his cell phone was "in pieces" when it was turned over to investigators, sources told ABC News. Cops also want to know why a housecleaning service was hired on Monday to scrub his southeastern Massachusetts home, the network reported on Thursday.

New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez allegedly tampered with his own home security system and hired cleaners to scrub down his house, hours before a drinking buddy was found dead nearby, according to broadcast reports.

Hernandez huddled with defense lawyers today as speculation swirled about his ties to semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, 27, who was found fatally shot at a North Attleboro, Mass., industrial park Monday night, a half-mile from the tight end’s home.

Cops, who searched Hernandez’s home on Tuesday, were expected to be back there today with a new search warrant based on evidence that “he destroyed his home security system” an investigator told ABC News.

Law enforcement sources said Hernandez’s security system, which includes video surveillance, was smashed intentionally, ABC reported.

Hernandez’s lawyers had previously turned over a cell phone - smashed “in pieces” - to investigators, sources said.

Even more curiously, Hernandez hired a team of house cleaners to come to his suburban Boston mansion to thoroughly clean the place on Monday, law enforcement sources told ABC.

"He [Hernandez] has not been ruled out,” one police official said. “We are not calling him a suspect, but he is definitely not in the clear.”

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is "likely" to be arrested in connection to the murder of 27-year-old Odin Llyod, according to a Sports Illustrated report.

Citing an unnamed source with knowledge of the investigation, Greg Bedard and Pete Thamel of SI reported on Thursday that "Hernandez's arrest is likely" due to his involvement in the case.

Shortly after the SI report was published online, Boston Globe political reporter Wesley Lowery tweeted that there was "no arrest imminent," citing state police.

NFL Star in Hiding? Questions swirl in New England murder probe

Tight-lipped law enforcement officials in Massachusetts refused to comment on conflicting reports late Friday about the possible imminent arrest of one of the NFL’s top young stars in connection with the murder of an amateur football player whose body was found earlier this week near his home.

State police went to the North Attleboro home of Aaron Hernandez, a 23-year-old New England Patriots tight end, on Friday. They were let inside, but then left moments later. That development came as multiple media outlets reported that an arrest warrant had been – or would be – issued for Hernandez in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, 27, of Dorchester. Lloyd’s body was found Monday in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home, with at least one gunshot to the head, according to reports.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office and North Attleboro Police Department would not say Friday whether Hernandez had been arrested or whether he had been questioned in the case.

"This office has not commented on the reports circulating today," Yasmina Serdarevic, a spokeswoman for the Bristol County DA, said in a statement to FoxNews.com. "This is still an ongoing investigation and we will not comment on the substance of the investigation."

The whereabouts of Hernandez, one of Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite targets, have been unknown to the public since he was seen driving home from the team’s practice facility on Thursday.

5:35 p.m.: Police have wrapped up their search of Hernandez’s house after nearly four hours, according to Mike Rodak of ESPNBoston.com. Massachusetts State Police left the house with about 10 brown paper bags.

4:11 p.m.: Hernandez’s lawyer, Michael Fee,  has arrived at the house, according to Wesley Lowery of The Boston Globe.

3:55 p.m.: Police are now searching Hernandez’s Audi SUV. ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack discussed the case on SportsCenter this afternoon. He thinks the activity is search-warrant related, not arrest-warrant related. He also thinks it’s the police putting pressure on Hernandez. There was also a locksmith at the house, according to multiple reporters at the scene. The locksmith has left the premises now.

3:32 p.m.: Police have been at Aaron Hernandez’s house for nearly two hours, and it took that long for FOX 25 to set up a live stream from their helicopter. 2:34 p.m.: Aaron Hernandez has a massive playhouse in his backyard. Detectives have been searching the playhouse extensively, according to Armstrong.

2:19 p.m.: Police are back to searching a wooded area near Hernandez’s house, according to Nick Underhill from MassLive.com.

1:58 p.m.: Police have brought in a second dog to search Hernandez’s house, according to Armstrong.

1:55 p.m.: Another group of detectives and state police have entered Hernandez’s house, according to Armstrong. Armstrong also reports that police have retrieved a German shepherd police dog to search Hernandez’s house.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Aaron Hernandez has been charged with murdering his friend after the two had a dispute during a trip to a nightclub.

Hernandez was arrested Wednesday and charged with the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, a semipro football player whose body was found in an industrial park about a mile from the former New England Patriots tight end's home.
Hernandez, released by the Patriots less than two hours after his arrest, pleaded not guilty and has been ordered to be held without bail. He also faces five gun-related charges, which were revealed Wednesday afternoon in Attleboro District Court.

Lloyd's relatives said he was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée, that the two men were friends and that the men were out together on the last night of Lloyd's life. He was shot multiple times in the back and chest, authorities said.

Hernandez, 23, also was charged with one count of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possessing a large-capacity firearm and two counts of possessing a firearm without an FID card.

Judge Daniel J. O'Shea ordered both prosecutors and Hernandez's defense attorneys to refrain from publicly commenting on the case.

"The reality is that this case is still an ongoing investigation," Bristol County District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter said. "Invariably it is in the best interest of an ongoing investigation for the District Attorney's office not to comment."

Hernandez could get life without parole if convicted. He was transported to the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth, Mass.

"It is at bottom a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case," said Hernandez's attorney, Michael Fee.

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. — Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, who was found shot execution-style about a half-mile from Hernandez's home in the early evening of June 17.

Hernandez, who was released by the Patriots earlier Wednesday, appeared in a packed courtroom number one at Attleboro District Court around 2:30 p.m. ET, where he faced six criminal charges, the most significant being first degree murder.

The criminal complaint against Hernandez, 23, states that "On 6/17/13, [he] did assault and beat Odin Lloyd with intent to murder such person, and by such assault and beating, did kill and murder such person."
Hernandez also faces one charge of firearm possession without a license and two charges each of possession of a large capacity firearm and firearm possession without an ID card.

Clad in the same white t-shirt and shorts that he was wearing when arrested at his home Wednesday, an emotionless Hernandez entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.
Bristol County first assistant attorney William McCauley presented his initial findings to Judge Daniel J. O'Shea, saying that Hernandez "orchestrated the execution" of Lloyd. At no point did McCauley claim that it was Hernandez himself who pulled the trigger.

Hernandez's attorney Michael Fee called the prosecution's argument "a circumstantial case, not a strong case."

The charged atmosphere in the standing room only courtroom grew when McCauley began describing the alleged timeline of events in the early hours of June 17. McCauley described how Hernandez's movements were pieced together with cell phone tower tracking, text messages and surveillance cameras.

Prosecutors allege that Hernandez picked up Lloyd around 2:30 a.m. on June 17th and that they drove through Boston before heading back to North Attleborough. McCauley claimed that Hernandez was unhappy that Lloyd had spoken with people that he didn't like at Boston nightclub several nights earlier. The prosecutor alleges that several people heard multiple gun shots near an industrial park close to Hernandez's home around 3:23 a.m. and says that home surveillance cameras captured Hernandez carrying a semiautomatic firearm as he and two other men returned to his home at 3:30 a.m.

Shortly after McCauley described this detail, Lloyd's sobbing mother was escorted from the courtroom.

O'Shea ordered that Hernandez be held without bail despite Fee's argument that Hernandez is not a flight risk due to his status as a homeowner in North Attleborough and the fact that he had never been criminally charged with a violent crime in the past.

Jailed football star Aaron Hernandez is being eyed for a 2012 double homicide, as prosecutors charge him in last week’s slaying of a friend — zeroing in on a piece of gum discarded at the scene, according to broadcast reports today.

Hernandez was denied bail this afternoon by a judge who said the football player might be guilty of a "cold-blooded" murder in a "very, very strong" case.

“This is not a first degree-murder charge where the facts support perhaps some kind of combat or heat of passion," said Bristol County Superior Court Judge Renee P. Dupuis.

“The facts as I understand them, as the commonwealth has presented, a case that is circumstantial to be sure but very, very strong."

Dupuis added: “This gentleman — either by himself or with two other people that he requested come to the commonwealth — basically cold blooded, in a cold-blooded fashion, killed a person because that person disrespected him.”

(CNN) -- It was around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, June 17, when Odin Lloyd climbed into a silver Nissan Altima.
He had company.
Hours later, Lloyd was dead, shot with a .45-caliber firearm and later found lying in a gravel pit in the southeastern Massachusetts town of North Attleborough.
As of Friday afternoon, the three others who had been in the car with Lloyd early that Monday morning were in custody.
"We believe we have the three individuals,... and we're very pleased about that," Bristol County, Massachusetts, District Attorney Sam Sutter said.
Foremost among them -- given his public prominence before Lloyd's death and the charges against him after it -- is Aaron Hernandez. He'd been a star tight end with the New England Patriots, at least until the team released him shortly after his arrest Wednesday.
The Bristol, Connecticut, native pleaded not guilty this week to a premeditated murder charge, among others.

Odin Lloyd was found shot to death near Hernandez's home. Police arrested Hernandez on Wednesday at his home and charged him with orchestrating the execution-style shooting.
Mourners gathered at Church of the Holy Spirit in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood Saturday morning for Lloyd's funeral.
Prosecutors allege Hernandez arranged the killing because Lloyd talked to the wrong people at a nightclub.

A grand jury has indicted former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez in the murder of Odin Lloyd, according to New England Cable News.

He was indicted on murder and weapons possessions charges this morning, according to prosecutors. Those charges include murder, carrying a firearm, and weapons possession charges.

The indictment alleges that Hernandez assaulted and beat Lloyd, with intent to murder.

Hernandez, dressed in a collared shirt and a jacket, was in court briefly for what was supposed to be a hearing on what evidence prosecutors have in the murder case against him. However, prosecutors said the hearing was not necessary because of the indictment.

Hernandez has not yet been arraigned in Superior Court.

In court, the defense said they had not yet seen the indictments and mentioned some concerns about the gag order in place in the case, discovery and made allegations of "serious prosecutorial misconduct."

Prosecutors addressed the discovery concerns by saying they had provided the defense with 68 DVDs or CD, volumes of reports and a complete copy from Hernandez’s home surveillance system.

The judge brought up the defense's allegations of the state willfully misleading witnesses and obstructing justice and prosecutors responded, saying they had not heard about the allegations until arriving in court this afternoon and could not intelligently respond to it. 

"I suppose a second, an easier way of addressing that is, I take it the Commonwealth has no intention of 'willfully misleading potential witnesses or otherwise obstructing justice,' and so an order not to do that would be unnecessary?" the judge said.

"That's correct, your honor," the prosecution said.

The judge said that the gag order remains in effect unless the judge who issued it made a change or the case was dismissed.

It was his sixth time appearing in a courtroom since his June 26 arrest.
He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lloyd, a 27-year-old semipro football player. He also faces various weapons charges. He will be held without bail until his next court appearance on October 9.
