I'm glad Mark chose not to attempt to attend the memorial services for Dylan yesterday.

He was not invited, he was not welcome.

He knew that.

There were measures taken to make sure he would not enter had he attempted to do so.

It was Dylan's day, and he didn't belong there.

Having covered this story from the beginning it felt important to be there for Dylan Redwine's memorial service. The story of course couldn't have been accomplished without the fantastic work by my colleague Isaias Medina

Remembering Dylan Redwine

Kevin Torres

BAYFIELD - One year ago on Monday Dylan Redwine boarded a plane for his father's home in Vallecito. The following day he disappeared. This weekend, hundreds gathered to say goodbye to the 13-year-old boy.

The word 'faith' was brought up time and time again during the service. Faith is what has helped friends and family get through the last year.

"I've lost faith and I've regained faith. Because without faith I have nothing else to look forward to and I need that," Dylan's mother Elaine Redwine told the crowd.

One year ago most of the people in attendance were complete strangers. They were brought together by a teenage boy.

"Dylan's light is no longer contained in a shell. It's like a super torch from heaven now shining down on all of us," said Denise Hess, a close family friend.

Memories of Redwine were shared, ranging from past holidays to pranks played in school.

At the end of the service everyone drove down the road to the nearby cemetery, where a bench baring Dylan's name was unveiled.

Family and friends wrote notes to Redwine and attached them to balloons. After one of Redwine's favorite songs were played, the balloons were released in to the air.

It was the community's way of saying 'goodbye'.

We Will Be Heard & Justice Will Be Served

Ode to a Monster:

You took it all away.
Dylan should be able to lay down on his mutti’s lap so she could rub his head and back and comfort him before he slept…..
But you took it all away
It was comforting to Dylan’s dying oma knowing her beloved grandson would be close by when the end came…..
But you took it all away
Dylan and his mutti should be singing in the car, or harvesting their garden, or hunting for cool pennies…..
But you took it all away
Cory should have had the joy of kidding Dylan when his voice started to change or of teaching him how to shave when he grew his first whisker…..
But you took it all away
Dylan’s family should have been bursting with pride when he passed his driver’s test or went on his first date…..
But you took it all away
Dylan’s family should have celebrated with joy when Dylan graduated from high school…..
But you took it all away
Cory and Dylan should have been the best man at each other’s weddings…..
But you took it all away
Cory and Dylan should have been loving uncles to each other’s children…..
But you took it all away
Dylan and his wife should have given Mike and Elaine beautiful grandchildren to love and spoil…..
But you took it all away
Cory and Dylan should have grown old together and been there for each other for decades to come…..
But you took it all away
Dylan’s name should have been known far and wide, not for being the victim of your brutality, but for the wonderful things he would have done with his life…..
But you took it all away
God gave you a precious gift, a son as beautiful inside as any parent could possibly ever ask for, a son who was so much more than you deserved…..
And you threw him away
So we wait for law enforcement to knock on your door and lead you away in handcuffs. Dylan had a life once until November 18th, 2012…..
Then you took it all away

Elaine Hatfield (crying emoticon) . You didn't deserve to be called their father and I will go to the end of the earth to make sure you pay for what you did to my sweet, gentle, caring son. I wish nothing but pain and fear for you as that is all you instilled in all 4 boys. We will follow this through and you will be caught and punished. That's a promise.

A final goodbye for Dylan
11/21/2013

By: Carole McWilliams

A memorial service Saturday for Dylan Redwine marked the one-year anniversary, Nov. 18, 2012, when he was last seen by mother Elaine Hatfield and older brother Cory Redwine.

During the church memorial, Cory tearfully urged those in attendance to never take the people they love for granted, because you never know when you might be seeing them for the last time. About 300 people attended the service at Pine Valley Church in Bayfield.

Family friend Denise Hess, who organized the initial searches for Dylan, said even as a baby, Dylan had a light that shined inside him. That light is no longer just inside a body, but spreading around to everyone who helped his mother and brother search for him, she said.

Dylan flew to Durango on Nov. 18, 2012, for a court-ordered Thanksgiving week visit with his father, Mark Redwine, who lives north of Vallecito. In late afternoon of Nov. 19, 2012, Mark sent a text message to Elaine asking if she knew where Dylan was. She in turn reported him missing to law enforcement in La Plata County, arguing with them for the days after his disappearance that he was not a teenage runaway.

After months of searches by community members and law enforcement people, bits of skeletal remains were found in late June off of Middle Mountain Road. DNA tests identified the remains as Dylan’s.

After the memorial gathering for Dylan Redwine at Pine Valley Church Saturday morning, community members moved to the Pine River Cemetery for dedication of a new granite bench in Dylan’s honor.

Family members and close friends wrote notes that were attached to black, blue and gray balloons representing Dylan’s favorite colors. The balloons were released at the end of music played on the violin by Beth Wanket. They drifted up into a cloudy sky.

Dylan’s bench is in a little section of the cemetery that seems to have become the resting place for young people who left this life way too soon. It is right next to the memorial for brother and sister Carly Martin and Ray Millich, and one for Bryan Howlett. Nearby is the marker for little Jaxon Formea, decorated with small pumpkins and Halloween items.

Under Dylan’s bench are river rocks that people wrote messages on at a vigil held in Bayfield shortly after the remains were identified. More rocks are being added as people wrote messages after Saturday's memorial service.

A fund to continue the search for evidence is at Wells Fargo Bank. Many of those funds were used to offer a $50,000+ reward for information in his disappearance and death. Donations also can be made at www.finddylan.com.

What about these people Mark?? These are your neighbors. I can't thank Lisa and Geoff enough!! I could never repay them for all they have done in our efforts to bring Dylan Home. These people opened their home to so many, fed so many, searched endlessly, cried days on end, loaned their ATV's and never met Dylan. Can you at least send them a thank you card you ungrateful F***? I thank God everyday for these two wonderful people!!

What about the Owner of this search dog Mark? This girl has logged OVER 3000 miles on that mountain looking for Dylan!! Her Owner works in Vallecito. Have you thanked him since everyday he has a free moment he is searching? Yep, You dont want to thank him since a big part of the reason we found Dylan's remains is because of this dog and her owner AND it was just days after you said you did not even think Dylan was in the county.

Michael Hall I remember taking this picture at my house in Briargate for his 1st facebook page. It also reminds me of a deal he and I had. I bought him a bike in exchange for pounding all the nails back in on all the fence pickets. He refused to ride his brand new bike until he finished the fence. "Nope Mike a deal is a deal" 2hrs later he made me go out and look at his work which if you know Dyl it was perfect without a nail missed. Off he went on his bike.

Dylan Redwine case still an active investigation one year later
It has been one year since Dylan Redwine, a 13-year old boy from Vallecito, Colo., went missing.
Published  6:46 AM MST Nov 18, 2013

BAYFIELD, Colo. —It has been one year since Dylan Redwine, a 13-year old boy from Vallecito, Colo., went missing.

Hundreds of people turned out for search parties, looking in nearby wooded areas, in ditches and in lakes. The La Plata County Sheriff's Department searched, too, even looking through Dylan's father's house. They never released what they found, if anything, but said he was not a suspect.

All the while, Dylan's mom said she knew something was suspicious.

"I think somebody knows where he is. I don't know if somebody's hiding him or if somebody's done something horrible to him," she had told the media at one point.

The Redwine family kept their voices heard in newspapers, on TV and online. They went on national shows like "Dr. Phil," "Nancy Grace" and even "Good Morning America," pleaing for Dylan to come home.

Nothing ever turned up until July 2013, when authorities found some of Redwine's remains on a nearby mountain. That's when the case was definitively called a homicide.

One year later, almost exactly, the La Plata County Sheriff's Department told Action 7 News that the case remains open and an active investigation. They have no suspects but continue to follow up from leads they got months ago. They continue to retrace their steps and do searches around the area where Redwine's remains were found.

"We're going to keep doing what we have been doing," said Sgt. Dan Bender. "Activity in the field, which includes a lot of things from interviewing people to active searches."

Bender said they're also waiting for lab results to come back to see if that will point authorities in any particular direction.

"To make sure we're not missing anything," he added.

Bender said the calls about Redwine's disappearance have been dwindling. They still accept tips and he said the follow up on every single one. Authorities have told Action 7 News that they, along with the rest of the community, are still hopeful to find out what happened to Redwine.

From the video at the link:

"We did talk to Mark Redwine, Dylan's father, over the phone.  Police have been questioning him and searching his home for answers, although he has not been named a person of interest.  Mark tells us there's a lot of tension between him and the rest of the family."

Hatfield blames ex-husband in death of Dylan Redwine

Posted: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 11:13 am

Melanie Brubaker Mazur Pine River Times | 0 comments

This week, Hatfield said she believes her ex-husband killed her son.

“Yes, I always have from day one, when Dylan was missing,” she said. “Those who know me, who knew Mark, who knew my boys, knew that as well.”

Hatfield said it was disheartening at first when she knew foul play was involved, and police said he could have run away. She said she knew he hadn’t done that.

“If Dylan would have ran off, Dylan would still be alive.”

She insisted from the beginning he would have called her if he wanted to leave his father.

She said her son’s flight to Durango originally had been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, but was canceled and rescheduled for the next day.

She said her son hadn’t really wanted to make the visit and asked her, “Mutti, is that a sign?” using the German term for mommy.

She wishes she hadn’t put him on the airplane, but at the time, didn’t feel she really had a choice.

One year later, investigators are still trying to find the rest of Dylan Redwine’s remains, and what happened to him in his final hours.

She said she receives updates from the investigators, but she cannot share any of that information.

“I can say there will be justice for Dylan,” she said. “I want the person who is responsible for Dylan’s death to know there will be justice for Dylan.”

She said while the search is proceeding quietly, it’s still going on.

“They will not give up until this is solved,” she said.

Michael Hall Yep Mark, 13yr olds hike this kind of terrain all the time for better reception. Your right no ropes needed here. UMM its only 1,000+ feet elevation gain from the creek in photo.

Michael Hall In all his bullshit lies he tells the story. All his theories LE squashed. He could not convince them to quit breathing down his neck so he goes public, bashes LE and tries to direct people away from his neighborhood. He panicked on Tricia's show when he 1st heard of the MM search. He was stressed out about the search when talking to people at his door. He leaves town a couple days before the search of MM when LE asked him to participate. Says he cant get back due to fire although MANY warriors made it through Chama. Instead he leaves Denver (5hrs away) for Indiana (over 20hrs away). He said he going on his crusade but there is not 1 media outlet or 1 person confirmed that he talked to about Dylan during his trip to Indiana.

I stand with the girl, Natalee Holloway.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.
