Elaine Hatfield I think this is one of the hardest pictures for me to see. You can see that he was crying...Dylan did not cry often and it just breaks my heart. God, i wish he would have just called me that day, i would have had someone pick him up. But no, instead he has to deal with a violent, selfish POS that Mark is because the system failed him...You may be laughing now Mark but trust me, soon enough that smile will fade. We are here and we will stay here and fight for Dylan.

Just heartbreaking.     We can't change what happened, but there can still be justice for Dylan.  Stay strong Elaine.  I know she will see this through.

The number of hunters with tags for this area and areas adjacent to where remains were found easily exceed 3,000. That is only bear, deer and elk hunters. That does not include all other type hunters or hikers. Hunters come from all over the US to hunt this area of Colorado due to the high population of elk so please keep sharing.

The mother of the 13-year-old boy who disappeared Nov. 19, 2012, while visiting his father in Vallecito is appealing to hunters to be on the lookout for any item that could belong to her son.

Dylan Redwine was reported missing the day after he arrived on a court-ordered visit with his father. Elaine and Mark Redwine were divorced, and she lived in the Colorado Springs area.

The bow season for hunters ends Sunday, followed by four rifle seasons in October and November.

A poster created by Elaine Redwine asks hunters or outdoor enthusiasts to be alert for a black backpack, black shorts, black shirt, black Air Jordan shoes, a Duke Blue Devils baseball cap and an older-model, flip Verizon cellphone.

Bone fragments, identified via DNA as Dylan’s, were found in spring 2013 on a remote section of Middle Mountain, north of Vallecito.

Elaine Redwine’s poster says any item that could possibly belong to Dylan should be left where found. A call to La Plata County law-enforcement dispatchers should ask for the on-call investigator.

Rifle hunting seasons are Oct. 11-15, Oct. 18-26, Nov. 1-9 and Nov. 12-16.

 

There apparently are no suspects.

Mother of slain boy pleads to SW Colorado hunters

LA PLATA COUNTY – Dylan Redwine's mother is reaching out to hunters in La Plata County, asking them to keep an eye out for any evidence related to her son's disappearance and murder.

 

In June 2013, search team members discovered some of the boy's remains and belongings on Middle Mountain in Vallecito. Dylan's mother believes there's more to be found.

"Oh, it's important as it is from day one," Elaine Redwine said regarding the investigation. "It will consume me until there's an outcome".

Redwine released new posters in the area, hoping to get the attention of local hunters. She figures hunters know the area best.

"We just want people to be in tune to anything they can find out there. Reiterate the fact we really need them to report it without touching the item, removing the item or disturbing the item," Redwine said.

The poster highlights several items investigators are looking for, including a backpack, a hat and a cell phone.

"Just keep your eyes and ears out if you see or hear anything please let the La Plata County Sheriff's Office know," Redwine said.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Department told 9NEWS investigators meet at least once a week to share notes about any updates in the case. While the case has gone cold for the last couple of months, Elaine Redwine said she is confident her son's killer will be caught.

Asked what he had learned from Dylan Redwine, Schirard said he couldn’t answer candidly. “There are all sorts of things that I can tell you about this case and lessons to be learned, but I am not going to jeopardize this case. It’s largely in the hands of the DA about whether or not he wants to go to trial,” he said.

Smith said, “This young man’s death is a tragedy, and has no place in a political platform.” He said, “the only thing I would have done differently, perhaps,” is embrace tools developed to help law enforcement to track missing and exploited children.

“Not taking advantage of tools like that is not good for our office. But I can’t tell you if it would have made a difference in this case; no one can,” he said.
