Happy Mother's Day!

Elaine's mother, Maria, passed away three years ago this week, a few weeks before they found Dylan's partial remains, and the confirmation that he wouldn't come home alive.  All Maria had wanted was to see Dylan again before she passed from terminal cancer.  She never gave up.

This is my second Mother's Day without my mom, and it's so hard.  I thought it would be easier this year, time would heal, but it hasn't.  I think about Elaine, grieving for her mother and her baby, and I pray for strength and comfort for her.  It's hard to even imagine her pain.

texasmom,

I don't think it gets easier, just more tolerable.  I miss my Mom so much too -- yet I know I was so blessed to have her in my life for so many years.  I used to spend Monday nights with her (like a pajama party).  What I wouldn't give for another one.

I don't know how mothers like Elaine do it.  I guess we do what we have to do, which is not always what we want to do.

Blessings.

Just a reminder. Dylan was murdered.

Why do you think this was changed from undetermined to homicide?

There hasn't been one shred of evidence that leads law enforcement to anyone but the named person of interest who is Mark Redwine, Dylan's own father.

That in itself can lead anyone to the opinion that he was involved in this. Who else? If anyone but the named POI committed this crime, do you really believe they committed the perfect crime?

Dyl,

My mind knows the truth. That I will never again witness your beautiful smile in person. Or hear you giggle. Or watch snuggle up to your Mutti and look at her with those big blue eyes right before you ask for one more Mountain Dew.

My heart can't accept it. I see your life in every picture and video. My heart just won't believe that someone came in and stole that smile. Silenced that giggle and forever closed those beautiful blue eyes. My heart just doesn't want to believe.

Despite the pain that I feel, I know that your Mutti, Cory, Mike and everyone that loved you is struggling is a way that I will never be able to fathom.

We are broken without you.

but...

We will never forget.
We will never stop having FAITH that justice will be served.

We will never stop loving you.

As I have from the beginning, I feel you close. I know you are watching over your Mutti, Cory and family. It's not the same and never will be, but it brings me comfort to at least know that you really can hear me. You have been reading these messages all along and you know how much you are loved by all.

I love you with all my heart buddy. Don't give up on us. We are not giving up on bringing you justice.

Love ya buddy,
Denisey (Katt)

I hope I never walk in these shoes, but I don't think I could be quiet for a minute!

I'm so disappointed that law enforcement doesn't seem to be doing anything, and justice seems like an elusive dream at times.  But the universe won't let this go unpunished.  He can continue his abuse of her through the courts as he's done since she found the courage to leave his sorry ass so many years ago, but he will eventually get his.  I believe it, and I'm counting on it!  JMO

What would you do if your child was missing and then found murdered?

Would you say nothing? Would you accuse no one? Would you wait for a Jury trial before you ever voiced who think did this to your child?

Of course you wouldn't.

You'd fight for justice, no matter what. YOU'D fight until the end.

I've only seen one parent out there fighting to bring justice for her child, the other one is busy filing frivolous law suits.

Maybe if Dylan's father spent as much time and money looking for his son's killer ( since he claims he's not involved) as he has harassing and filing frivolous law suits against his EX wife, we might have more answers. Revenge is a nasty emotion.

That money would be better spent on a Private Investigator, IMO.

What efforts have you made to find Dylan's killer? WHAT have YOU done?

Very emotional week. 3 years ago this week word was given a little boy "Scrubbed in Sunshine" would not be coming home to his family as some of his remains were found on a mountain side during a search. News that made total strangers just sit and cry.

Those who loved Dylan take care of his memorial bench and decorate it for every holiday.
Did his murderer think if he didn't get a proper burial that he would be forgotten?
We will never forget, and I hope the cruelty and blatant disrespect for his own child even after death will one day help a jury understand what a monster he is.  jmo

FYI-
The Middle Mountain area of the San Juan National Forest north of Vallecito Reservoir will be closed to all public entry from Wednesday, July 6th through Monday, July 11th at the request of the La Plata County Sheriff. The closure will include Middle Mountain Road (Forest Road #724), which will be closed to all entry approximately 0.75 miles before the Cave Basin Trailhead. This will block access to the Cave Basin Trailhead and Tuckerville. In addition, the Runlett Park Trail will be closed from Runlett Park to a point two miles south of Middle Mountain Road. The trails and Middle Mountain Road below the closure area will remain open, and dispersed camping will continue to be allowed in the area below the closure area.
Forest Service patrols will notify campers and others using the closure area over the July 4th weekend that they must relocate no later than early Wednesday morning. The Sheriff’s Office and Forest Service law enforcement officers will also conduct a sweep of the National Forest above the closure to notify campers they must relocate by Wednesday.
For more information, please contact Dan Bender, with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, at 970 382-7026.

New search of Middle Mountain set in Dylan Redwine case
Investigators say ‘change of seasons’ is time to check again
By Shane Benjamin Herald staff writer Article Last Updated: Friday, July 01, 2016 12:07pm

A new search for evidence in the death of Dylan Redwine, the 13-year-old boy who went missing in November 2012 north of Vallecito Reservoir, is planned next week for a section of Middle Mountain.

The Sheriff’s Office has done a number of searches during the past three years on Middle Mountain, and next week’s search is one more in what is considered an ongoing investigation, said Dan Bender, spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office.

“Each time we have a change of seasons, that allows us to go into that area,” Bender said. “... We’re going to be checking in areas that we haven’t been in in the past.”

The closure from July 6 to 11 is near the top of Middle Mountain Road (Forest Road No. 724), from about 0.75 miles before Cave Basin Trailhead. The closure will block access to Cave Basin Trailhead and Tuckerville. And Runlett Park Trail will be closed from Runlett Park to two miles south of Middle Mountain Road.

The Sheriff’s Office found some of Dylan’s remains in June 2013 in the area.

Dylan went missing while on a court-ordered Thanksgiving week visit with his father, Mark Redwine, who lives north of Vallecito.

Last year, the Sheriff’s Office identify Mark Redwine as a person of interest in the boy’s death.

Updated the article to include:

Last year, the Sheriff’s Office identified Mark Redwine as a person of interest in the boy’s death. That determination was based on “evidence collected, inconsistent statements and his behavior throughout the investigation,” Bender said.

Some residents have questioned why it has taken investigators so long to solve the crime, Bender said. He compared it to a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, saying they are slowly piecing it together to have a complete picture.

“The investigation into the homicide of Dylan Redwine has never ceased,” he said. “As we conduct our investigation and additional information is gathered, that directs us toward our next steps in the investigation, and this is just one more step in the investigation.”
