what decides which cases get the most attention? the public? there must be hundreds of shootings that never get any attention...other than when the case is over and the shooter is sentenced or released....dunno...

His tweets had zero to do with the circumstances and outcome that night.  Trayvon did not have a gun.  He never acquired a gun.  He did not leave his home to follow another individual in the dark, which is a threatening thing to do.

Looking past everything that Zimmerman did and his proven frame of mind that night and only focusing on what Trayvon (a young teenager) had done previously and imagining what Trayvon was thinking is acutely unjust.

Trayvon knew he was being followed, calling George 'creepy'.  This shows he was very uncomfortable with what was happening, and indicates fear.  Meanwhile George is calling Trayvon a punk and a**hole, indicating anger, while following him with a loaded weapon.

Hi Cookie.  IMO the case is getting attention because there was no arrest after the shooting of an unarmed teenager walking home.  The person who left their vehicle and is the shooter exhibited anger at the 'punks who always get away'.  He's also a big fat liar who knew he couldn't fight so carried a loaded ready to kill (oops, I mean shoot) gun instead.  IMO, if both the killer and the victim were white this would still be newsworthy but let's face it, if Trayvon were white Zimmerman wouldn't have gone after him.

Imagine Trayvon was your son, black or white or whatever, and he had been shot in the dark in his own neighborhood by a man who had left his vehicle and come after him?  Wouldn't you want an investigation and subsequent trial?

As an aside and not in response to you, doesn't everyone know pot makes a person more relaxed and calm and way less likely to start a fight or confrontation?

Hi amy's sister, I love reading your posts because you and i disagree on this case but you are always respectful about it.  I have a few issues with your post and they are JMO as always and not directed at you.

First, IMO, this case is getting all the attention it is due to race baiters, the Crump/Jackson team, and Al Sharpton sticking their heads into this.  One could argue that they did this because they wanted a thorough investigation (which I somewhat understand) but  IMO there were other ways to do this rather than enrage the masses to the point that OBAMA said "trayvon could have been my son."  If Trayvon had beaten GZ to death that night which is a huge possiblity had GZ not used justifiable means to defend himself, there would be no media attention on this outside the local media.   I say this because we had a case like this a few years ago where two black teenagers beat a white man to death in the same manner (against concrete) and it only ever made the local news. Once the national media got involved with the Martin/Zimmerman case it also drew the interest of gun rights activists, etc,  and now it's turned into a new animal.  Also, Angela Corey's press conference announcing the charges was one of the most disturbing press conferences involving a case I have EVER seen.  If Trayvon was my son, I would certainly want a thorough investigation, I can't say what I would do if that investigation showed that my son was the aggressor but I am willing to bet I would still be in a state of denial and want a trial anyway just as the Martin's have.  Looking at this case as an *******, and trying to go into it with an open mind I now understand fully why the Sanford prosecutors office didn't feel they had enough for charges, and why Corey bypassed a grand jury (she was prob afraid she wouldn't get an indictment).  This trial, unfortunately is about politics. 

Secondly, GZ had a right to carry.  My husband is in the army, a cop, and has a concealed weapons permit (i realize this might not be a fair comparison to GZ but still), he usually carries most places we go,  believe me, my husband and others I know who carry don't carry because they know they can't fight.  I personally don't like guns at all and would never own one or carry because I worry it could be used or turned against me as I am not proficient enough with firearms at this point.

Also, who's to say Zimmerman wouldn't have called the NEN number if Trayvon was white?  There has been NO evidence of GZ being a racist.  It just so happened that the other times he called to report crimes, the suspicious people were black.  I'm sorry but statistically blacks commit more crime than whites and this is a fact. The FBI did a full investigation and found nothing that would point towards GZ being racist.  I will however concede that it's possible he does have racist thoughts but just nothing that has been presented in evidence that I think a jury could hang their hat on to show "ill will, hatred, or a depraved mind."  Especially after his black professor came on the stand and was very happy to see George, even saying "how you doin george?"  this will not be lost on the jury, imo.

Also, in terms of your statement about pot making people relaxed, I can attest first hand that the one time I smoked weed in high school I was so paranoid I thought I was dying.  I personally think the pot issue will be a wash with the jury but it had to come in because of the autopsy and Dr. Bao's statements (wow that man was a whacky M.E!).

I am not on either side because I just do not know what really happened.
