THE DIVIDER IN CHIEF: President Obama says we are a nation of laws and the jury has spoken, yet then disregards the juries verdict that George Zimmerman used a gun in self defense.

President Barack Obama makes his first statement following the juries verdict of “NOT GUILTY” in the murder trial of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin. Barack Obama called for calm reflection following the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Obama also went on to say, “we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken.” Hmm. Usually, those are only the laws that he wishes to enforce. Is such calls for calm a little too late as its difficult to put the genie back in the bottle. Obama’s call for calm, however, has already been inflamed by his previous comments when he decided to get involved in an investigation by making his comment, ”that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon.” Such comments further brought pressure to bear to prosecute George Zimmerman.

Hmm ... so its not a tragedy what goes on in Chicago every day, eh? So does Obama think that is not a tragedy as well? I have news for the president, self-defense within the law and the use of a gun is not gun violence. Either this president respects what the jury said, or he doesn't. You don't get it both ways.

While I was listening to some commentary today, I found out that Martin's family got $1 million dollars from the HOA.  How much will they make from a civil judgement?

I imagine, all those dead in Chicago every week are worthless to lawyers.   No one can prosper from their deaths.  No HOA to sue, no family with two nickles...

I wonder how much Zimmerman had to pay for his legal expenses?

George Zimmerman's business with the criminal court in Florida may be done, but a federal civil rights investigation remains open, and legal experts say he could face a civil suit.

A federal investigation into the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is underway, and prosecutors from the Justice Department's civil rights division will review evidence from the FBI and the Florida criminal trial, the Justice Department said Sunday in a written statement.
 
"Experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation of any of the limited federal criminal civil rights statutes within our jurisdiction, and whether federal prosecution is appropriate," the statement said.
 
Although Zimmerman has few assets, a book or movie deal could make him a lucrative target for a wrongful death suit, said Randy Reep, a criminal defense attorney in Jacksonville.

Apart from money, the family might sue "if only for a victory in principle," he said.
 
Zimmerman's lawyer, Mark O'Mara, commented Saturday night on the possibility of suits against his client.

"On the civil aspect, if someone believes that it's appropriate to sue George Zimmerman, then we will seek and we will get immunity in a civil hearing.

"We'll see just how many civil lawsuits are spawned from this fiasco."
