George Zimmerman's new painting: State Attorney Angela Corey
6:21 p.m. EST, January 22, 2014

The special prosecutor who charged George Zimmerman with second-degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is the subject of his latest painting, according to a photo posted on Twitter by Zimmerman's brother.

Robert Zimmerman Jr. said details on the sale of Zimmerman's painting of State Attorney Angela Corey would be made available on Thursday. George Zimmerman sold a previous painting on eBay, with a winning bid of $100,099.99.

The new painting is an image of Corey gesturing with her finger and thumb together, under the words "I have this much respect for the American judicial system." The painting is titled "Angie," Robert Zimmerman Jr. tweeted Wednesday.

U.S.
AP Says Zimmerman Painting Is Copy of AP Photo

ORLANDO, Fla. January 24, 2014 (AP)
Associated Press

The Associated Press has demanded that George Zimmerman halt the sale of one of his paintings because the news agency says it directly copies an AP photo.

On Twitter, George Zimmerman wrote Friday evening: "No worries AP, I'll just take whatever U sue me for off your tab when I'm done suing you Smile Or... I could put out how much U offered me 2.."

Responding to Zimmerman's tweet, Colford, the AP spokesman, said: "We don't know what he's talking about."

Sculptor sues Postal Service over mistaken Lady Liberty stamp

    By Lisa Rein
    December 3, 2013 at 9:15 am

The Postal Service chose the image from an online photography service, Getty Images. But it did not acquire the rights to duplicate it from the artist, Robert S. Davidson, probably because postal officials assumed they were issuing a stamp with a famous image [in New York] that already was in the public domain.

Florida Bar: No credible evidence of wrongdoing by Mark O'Mara
7:14 p.m. EST, January 24, 2014

The Florida Bar on Friday closed its investigation into possible wrongdoing by defense attorney Mark O'Mara, saying it found no credible evidence that he knowingly solicited false testimony from George Zimmerman's wife when she told a judge the couple was broke.

"Now's your chance to kick George Zimmerman's ass with zero legal repercussions -- he just agreed to a celebrity boxing match ... and he says he'll fight ANYONE ... even black people.

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman threw down the challenge, offering George money to step in the ring. Now here's the kicker ... the opponent has NOT been selected"

Tampa lawyer: George Zimmerman has hired me and we're fighting his divorce
3:30 p.m. EST, February 3, 2014

George Zimmerman is now fighting back in his divorce case.

He's retained a Tampa law firm and is asking a Sanford judge to set aside a default entered against him three weeks ago, according to his new lawyer, Howard Iken of Ayo & Iken.

Zimmerman's estranged wife, Shellie, 26, sued him for divorce Sept. 5. He has yet to file a response.

Iken said that would happen soon.

"The first order of business is to set aside the clerk's order of default," Iken said today.

Iken said George Zimmerman would contest the divorce. He would not comment on his client's finances.

Orlando lawyer Mark O'Mara bows out of Zimmerman v. NBC defamation case
5:31 p.m. EST, February 6, 2014

SANFORD — Orlando lawyer Mark O'Mara on Thursday took another step away from his most famous client, George Zimmerman, by bowing out of a defamation suit against NBCUniversal Media.

His defamation suit has sat dormant for 11 months. Both sides agreed last February that they'd do nothing until Zimmerman's criminal case was closed.

Although his criminal trial is over, the case is still technically open. That's because O'Mara and co-counsel Don West asked Circuit Judge Debra Nelson to impose sanctions against prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda, accusing him of hiding evidence and creating delays.

Nelson presides over Zimmerman's defamation case as well. She called Thursday's hearing, saying she'd received a letter from Zimmerman's main defamation lawyer, James Beasley Jr. of Philadelphia, saying there were no pending matters in the criminal case, so it was time to move forward.

O'Mara did not appear in court , but a lawyer from his firm, Lorna Truett, took part by phone. The judge asked if her firm was withdrawing its motion for sanctions, and she said she was unsure. Based on that, the judge ruled the libel case cannot move forward.

The judge removed O'Mara, at his request, as one of Zimmerman's defamation lawyers.

O'Mara's would not say why he was leaving the case but in a prepared statement, called Zimmerman's claim "strong."

I have my doubts that this fight will ever happen, but if it does, I seriously doubt that Gorgeous George will win. He couldn't handle a scrawny, barely-17-year-old kid in a fight. How will he manage to win against a grown man? If he does win, what will that tell us about his claim that, bless his heart, he had to shoot the big bad teenager to keep from getting himself killed?

Mark O'Mara finding new life after the George Zimmerman case
Monday, February 10, 12:12 PM EST

Life after Zimmerman

O’Mara and his practice have benefited from the international exposure the case received.

The practice is getting more and better cases, and he’s adding staff.

He’s a CNN analyst, where he’s talked about cases ranging from Michael Dunn to the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman to cyberbullying.

O’Mara’s added trial consulting work to his practice and he and West have started Justice Outreach, which is aimed at improving the justice system.

And he gets plenty of speaking engagement invitations.

He wishes the best for the man whose case brought him the perils and rewards of this fame. He believes Zimmerman was damaged by the way his case was handled by prosecutors and by the media. “George became a focus point for a racist event that really wasn’t,” O’Mara said.

He’s certain Zimmerman will never have a normal life, despite the acquittal.

And he knows there’s still a lot of anger directed toward Zimmerman, and to a lesser degree, to himself.

“What did I do?” he said. “I represented a guy that was innocent.”

George Zimmerman countersues Shellie for divorce
5:39 p.m. EST, February 12, 2014

SANFORD - George Zimmerman this week countersued his estranged wife, Shellie, for divorce.

What they'll be fighting over: Their two dogs, who pays the divorce lawyers and who pays for the $2.5 million or more in debt they've racked up.

The overwhelming majority of that debt is what George Zimmerman owes criminal defense attorneys Mark O'Mara and Don West.

Zimmerman's divorce countersuit, filed Monday, says that Shellie should be required "to pay all debts incurred by the parties prior to the dissolution of marriage."

It also alleges that Zimmerman doesn't have enough money to pay his divorce lawyer, Erin Duncan of Orlando, but that Shellie does, so she should have to.

Zimmerman: God is 'The Only Judge'

George Zimmerman says he still gets death threats, is still accused of being a racist and is still a lightning rod for criticism.

But in the end, there's only one judge who matters, he told CNN.

"God," Zimmerman said in an interview broadcast on CNN's "New Day" on Monday. "I know that ultimately, he's the only judge that I have to answer to.

"He knows what happened. I know what happened. So I'd leave it up to him."

It's been seven months since a Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Trayvon Martin's death.

Zimmerman thought his life would go back to normal.

"I was hoping for that," he told Chris Cuomo.

But nearly two years after the night when Zimmerman killed 17-year-old Martin in a Florida subdivision, life is anything but the way it used to be for the 30-year-old former neighborhood watchman.

George Zimmerman: I want to quit fighting in court with Angela Corey
9:02 p.m. EST, March 4, 2014

SANFORD — Former Neighborhood Watch volunteer George Zimmerman says he's done fighting in court with Special Prosecutor Angela Corey.

In paperwork filed at the Seminole County criminal courthouse Feb. 20, Zimmerman says he is giving up his promised fight to make the state pay his legal bills.

He's also wants to put an end to his lawyers' fight with prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda, whom they had asked a judge to punish, alleging unethical behavior, including hiding evidence.

If Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson agrees, that would clear the way for Zimmerman to move forward with his defamation suit against NBCUniversal. A hearing in that case is scheduled Friday.

Defense attorneys Mark O'Mara and Don West also alleged that de la Rionda hid for months information that the state's key witness, a teenage girl who was on the phone with Trayvon just before he was shot, had lied under oath.

The judge postponed the continuation of that hearing until after the trial, and it has never resumed.

In an odd move, Corey's office doesn't want the judge to grant Zimmerman's new request — that she forget about the sanctions. It wants to keep fighting and be declared the winner. A few days after Zimmerman filed his request, Assistant State Attorney Rich Mantei filed paperwork, asking the judge to rule in Corey's favor.

He even offered to present more evidence "to make a complete record and establish the state committed no discovery violations …."

In another legal development involving Zimmerman, a judge has set aside a default entered in favor of his wife, Shellie, in their ongoing divorce.

That means the two sides are back to equal footing as they fight to divide up property but mostly the overwhelming debt they face because of George Zimmerman's legal bills.

Zimmerman's parents sue Roseanne Barr over 'vigilante' Twitter comments
5:53 p.m. EDT, March 11, 2014

The parents of George Zimmerman have sued comedienne Roseanne Barr, saying they fled their Lake Mary home in the middle of the night and have been unable to return because she posted their address on Twitter two years ago.

Robert Zimmerman Sr. and Gladys Zimmerman filed suit Monday in state circuit court, accusing Barr of trying to incite "a lynch mob to descend" and carry out "vigilante justice."

According to the suit, Barr published their address on Twitter March 29, 2012, a month after their son George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager in Sanford, but before his arrest. Their son did not live with them, nor did they have anything to do with the shooting, they point out.

It alleges that Barr's tweets forced them to go into hiding. They are seeking unspecified damages, accusing her of intentionally inflicting emotional distress.

They also allege that she violated Twitter's terms and conditions prohibiting publication of addresses and other confidential information. After the first tweet, the suit alleges, Barr followed up with others, including: "If Zimmerman isn't arrested I'll rt (re-tweet) his address again — maybe go 2 his house myself."

George Zimmerman: Decision coming on federal civil rights charges
Last Updated: Wednesday, March 19, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC --
George Zimmerman could soon find out if he'll face federal civil rights charges.

The Justice Department is conducting a civil rights investigation in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was acquitted last year of his murder.

But Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Zimmerman could still face federal charges in the case, and hinted that decision could come soon.

"We are still in the process of doing the kinds of investigative things and analysis that are necessary before we can make the determination," Holder said. "So that matter's ongoing."
