CALGARY, Alta. — Despite the sudden and sad welcome to the world, a newborn fawn who was born on impact when her mother doe was hit by a car will be given a new family.

Alexandra Beraru and a friend were driving along a highway north of Calgary when suddenly a deer ran out in front of their car.

“It looked quite large so at first I thought it was a moose. It turned out to be a mule deer, and it was pregnant,” Beraru said.
