Two brothers who unknowingly helped Joran van der Sloot flee the murder of a Peruvian woman by driving him into Chile recalled the hours-long ride with van der Sloot, who has long been suspected by Natalee Holloway’s mother of being responsible for her 2005 disappearance in Aruba.

Williams and Oswaldo Aparcana, both of whom are taxi drivers in Peru, told “20/20” in an exclusive interview that van der Sloot had been rushing them as they drove him overnight to the city of Tacna, near the Peru-Chile border, in 2010.

“He would always ask, ‘Where are we? How long do we have?’” said Oswaldo Aparcana, adding that “because he was in a hurry, he didn’t want us to stop.”

Unbeknownst to the brothers, van der Sloot had beaten Stephany Flores to death on May 30, 2010, exactly five years to the day after 18-year-old Holloway, who was from Alabama, went missing while celebrating her high school graduation in Aruba.

REMINDER

Natalee Holloway’s mother returns to Aruba with ABC’s ‘20/20’
November 20, 2019

EXCERPT

Natalee Holloway’s mother will be featured on ABC’s “20/20” Friday in what the network describes as her first extensive trip back to Aruba in nearly 10 years after daughter’s disappearance.

Beth Holloway, accompanied by news crews, revisited the tiny island nation after Natalee’s 2005 disappearance while on Mountain Brook High School graduation trip. In Holloway’s latest trip, according to the network, she revisits places where she searched for Natalee and reunites with Alberto Groeneveldt, who met her when she first arrived in 2005 and guided her around the island, helping her try and find out what happened to her daughter. ....

Natalee Holloway's mother on her nearly 15-year journey to find out what happened to her daughter in Aruba
Nov 21, 2019

EXCERPT

Beth Holloway said she keeps her daughter's senior portrait in her bedroom.

“Every morning I go give her a kiss on the cheek, trace my hands down the rosary beads and across and just say a prayer. Some days I'll say, ‘What are we doin' today, Natalee?’ and ‘Let's do this today.’ So I feel like she's still a team with me,” she added. “She was always a driving force, so she’s been with me all the way.”

“You’re never going to get over the loss of losing your loved one- that’s not going to happen. But life does move on,” Holloway said. “Natalee would want us to enjoy what life we have left.”

Family of Aniah Blanchard gets support from Beth Holloway with blue ribbons
Nov 9, 2019

EXCERPT

As police continue to search for 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard, the family is receiving a wide range of support from a mother whose child went missing in 2005.

Beth Holloway came to Auburn this afternoon putting up blue ribbons throughout the community. Holloway says this tragedy sticks with her because her 18-year-old daughter Natalee Holloway went missing on a trip to Aruba.

Ribbons were displayed at the Chevron gas station on South College Street and at the Evergreen student apartments where she lived.

Blue ribbons were taped to honor Blanchard’s favorite color. The director from the non-profit, Texas EquuSearch, Tim Miller, helped taped the ribbons.

Holloway says with posting the ribbons, she hopes Aniah is brought home soon.

One Letdown After Another: Natalee Holloway’s Unsolved Disappearance and All the Twists That Went Wrong

When shards of bone were discovered in Aruba a few years ago, Dave Holloway hoped against hope that DNA testing would prove the remains were of his daughter, Natalee Holloway, who went missing in 2005 while on a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island. It would be sad, and it would be disturbing, but at least it would be an answer in a case that remains largely composed of questions.

It took a year and a half of working under the radar with the help of an informant to locate the spot where the remains were found, behind a house that had been previously mentioned over the course of the sporadically eventful investigation.

“Out of the four individual bone samples only one was found to be human,” forensic scientist Jason Kolowski, who tested the samples, explained to Oxygen, which chronicled Dave Holloway’s journey with private investigator T.J. Ward as they followed what felt at the time to be their most promising lead in years.

“We don’t know if the person is male or female,” Kolowski added. “We don’t know how old that person is. We don’t know how long that person has been dead.”

For the past 14 years, the investigation into Holloway’s disappearance has carried on in fits and spurts, with light occasionally appearing at the end of the tunnel, only to be snuffed out at the first whiff of closure. In the meantime, books have been written, Lifetime made two movies about the case, news-magazine shows have covered it top to bottom, and every theory in the book has been floated—including that Natalee is still alive, or at least was for years after the events of May 30, 2005, transpired. Whatever those events were, exactly.

Beth has credited her faith for helping her accept her loss, and she eventually returned to work as a speech therapist at schools in Cullman County. She also traveled the country speaking publicly about Natalee, grief, her family’s journey and how to look out for one’s personal safety.

“It’s a message of hope, and my definition of hope is that inexplicable empowerment that enables us to move successfully from challenge to resolution with courage,” she told B-Metro magazine in 2015. “It’s more than just wishful thinking. It is real that there is light at the end of the tunnel. No matter what you’re trying to find your way through—It could be loss of a loved one, it could be terminal illness, it could be a financial loss. It’s a powerful inspirational message that I share that teaches perseverance and hope and that you can endure.”

Mother of Natalee Holloway to speak in Somerset this week
By JANIE SLAVEN
Commonwealth Journal
Dec 8, 2019

It's been nearly 15 years since the disappearance of Beth Holloway's daughter Natalee.

The Birmingham, Alabama teenager was on a graduation trip in Aruba when she was last seen on May 30, 2005. She has never been found.

Still searching for answers, Holloway will be in Somerset this week to share her story in hopes of helping others. Her "Phases of Hope" presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday night in the historic First Baptist Church sanctuary in downtown Somerset. The general public is invited with admission of $15.

By her own account, Holloway lived a quiet life as a speech pathologist before her life changed so dramatically in 2005. In the years since, her message of hope, faith and personal safety to people of all ages has been heard by tens of thousands in high schools, colleges, churches, local and national conventions, law enforcement conferences, and more. Her book "Loving Natalee" became a New York Times bestseller and has been adapted into a Lifetime movie.

"Phases of Hope" delivers a powerful and supportive message as Holloway describes the three distinct phases of hope she went through after Natalee's disappearance.

Tickets for Holloway's either Thursday night's or Friday morning's program may be purchased online at www.fbcsomerset.org.

Renowned missing persons search & recovery team announces 1st chapter in Alabama
by Jack HeleanSaturday, February 15th 2020

Texas Equusearch founder Tim Miller speaks Saturday to announce the opening of his organizations first Alabama chapter. (ABC 33/40)

WINFIELD, Ala. (WBMA) — A world-renowned missing persons search and recovery team announced the establishment of an Alabama chapter on Saturday afternoon.

TexasEquusearch assisted with the high-profile search for missing woman Aniah Blanchard last year.

TexasEquusearch is a national organization that has been involved in several high-profile missing persons cases including Natalee Holloway.

Beth Holloway the mother to Natalie Holloway and Angela Haley-Harris Mother to Aniah Blanchard, were in attendance at the announcement to answer questions and show their gratitude for TexasEquusearch's efforts.

According to their website, TexasEquuSearch has been involved in over 1,860 searches in the US, Aruba, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. And have returned over 400 missing people home to their families safely.

The volunteer search and recovery team utilizes horseback team members to search wooded areas where vehicles could not otherwise go.

In addition to mounted units the search organization uses drones called "Super Bats" which are equipped with high-resolution cameras that can snap up to 200 images every 10 minutes.
