It would take guts for this guy to look into the camera and say I should not have said anything about a red line. What I am going to do is immediately beef up the security at every one of my embassies all over the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, because as you and I both know, in nine days, you have the eve of another 9/11 attack. And those anniversaries really are important to the bad guys. So do that immediately.

of all, go to the Israelis right now and say I'm going to pull back my horns. You've got the southern part of that country targeted. You take care of the things you need to take care of to make sure you're not going to hit as a reprisal, because Syria can't come after us, but the Iranians can go after the Israelis, not in Israel, but all around the rest, at every Israeli embassy on the planet.

Lastly,
what this president needs to do, should do right away, go to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, The Senate Select Committee with a covert action finding, say I want my risk-averse intelligence agencies to immediately hire 1,000 contractors, civilians who are military people who have gotten out, who speak the language, and there are thousands of them, who are now looking for something to do in an economy that has never turned around, and put them to work recruiting, training, and fielding a real Syrian freedom fighter movement. It can be done. Those people are out there. They've just not been given any weapons by Erdogan, our erstwhile NATO ally in Turkey.

Kerry, Hagel claim inaction on Syria 'dangerous' for US[/b
Secretary of State John Kerry testified on Tuesday that failing to strike Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack would open a "Pandora's box" of "dangerous consequences," leaving U.S. allies questioning the worth of America's word and U.S. enemies itching to test America's resolve.

The argument was part of the forceful case Kerry made for military action in Syria, during the first Capitol Hill hearing on President Obama's request for authorization for a strike. The hearing came as the administration began to earn the support of congressional leaders, though some rank-and-file members continued to show reluctance.

Kerry, along with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, tried to sway lawmakers by claiming that the consequences of inaction would be more harmful than the consequences of a military strike. Kerry claimed the evidence is clear the Assad regime used chemical weapons and said America cannot "be spectators to slaughter."

"This is not the time for armchair isolationism," Kerry said, in testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also testified.

“Today my colleague Senator John McCain said after a visit to the White House that to reject military force in Syria would be ‘catastrophic’.

 

 

“I continue to oppose military action in Syria because I am deeply concerned about the state of our military. The President has known about these grave national security threats for several years, yet our military — under his leadership — has experienced an unprecedented deterioration of readiness and capabilities. Let us not forget the words Gen. Dempsey spoke when he testified before Congress earlier this year about the President’s sequestration. He said that our military is being put on a path where the ‘force is so degraded and so unready’ that it would be ‘immoral to use the force.’ The catastrophe is already before us. The President can’t guarantee that military intervention in Syria will be brief or even reduce the violence, but he has to make that promise because our forces under President Obama could not sustain another war. If Assad attacks his neighbors, our military — already stretched thin due to underfunding — could reach the breaking point. When Congress returns, I encourage the President to swiftly put forward a long-term strategy for the region and the budget to back it for the sake of our men and women in uniform who will be the ones to make the greatest sacrifices in this effort.”

Consider what the senator is saying here.

Because Barack Obama, two years ago, said “Assad must go,” and, one year ago, said any use of chemical weapons crosses his “red line,” Congress has no choice but to plunge America into yet another Mideast war.

Can this be? Are we really, as a nation, required to go to war to make good the simple-minded statements of an untutored president who had no constitutional authority to issue his impulsive ultimata?
