Rand Paul compares John Kerry to a 'clairvoyant'

Posted by CNN's Ashley Killough

(CNN) - Following his tense exchange with John Kerry at Tuesday's Senate hearing on Syria, Sen. Rand Paul said the secretary of state is overstating his certitude that a military strike against the regime of Bashar al-Assad will make the Middle East safer.

"Well, he sounds like he must be a clairvoyant because he can predict the future now and so we should ask him for stock picks, you name it, who's going to win the Kentucky Derby next year if he can guarantee the future," the Kentucky Republican said on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront."

The debate we should be having on Syria

David Rohde 39 minutes ago  (08:00) -est
U.S. President Barack Obama pauses while speaking about Syria to reporters during a meeting with Baltic ….By David Rohde

On Tuesday evening, President Barack Obama boarded Air Force One, departed for Sweden and left behind a looming political disaster. Despite the endorsement of Republican and Democratic House leaders, many members of Congress remain deeply skeptical about the president's proposal to carry out cruise missile strikes in Syria. And they should be.

MOSCOW | By Thomas Grove, Wed Sep 4, 2013 4:48am EDT

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia did not rule out approving a military operation in Syria if clear evidence showed Damascus had carried out chemical weapons attacks, but said any attack would be illegal without U.N. support.

Very interesting.  Will Putty get the US out of this chaos, by going to the UN?

I am not an Obama fan at all. But I do think that this is a huge decision for the President?
I do not think that we can ever win in the Middle East. They do not want our influence in my opinion.
I agree with Rand Paul. Lots of civilians have been murdered in their own countries. Whether by gas or machete, should we go in each and every time? Would these other countries come to our defense?

Senate Breaks Own Rules in Rush to Vote on Syria War
by Josh Rogin Sep 4, 2013 2:53 PM EDT

Senate Democratic leadership tossed aside the rules for moving legislation with regard to the resolution authorizing the use of military force against Syria, angering some Republicans and creating confusion on Capitol Hill in the run up to the war vote.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee narrowly approved a modified war resolution Wednesday afternoon by vote of 10-7 with one member, Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), voting present. The committee's action allows Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to bring the measure to the floor as early as Friday, following a break for the Jewish holidays. That would allow a vote by the full Senate as soon as Monday, giving the Senate a chance to pass a war resolution before the House has a chance to craft and pass a resolution of its own.

RUSH: He had no point he was trying to make.  He was hoping that every word would make sense when it followed another word, and he was praying that it would end in a way that made sense to somebody.  And it didn't.

(Rush Limbaugh is speaking)

These Code Pink people are sitting behind the witnesses at these hearings.  They are holding up, their hands are all red made to look bloody and everybody is just ignoring them.  It's the funniest thing.  I wish I could accurately describe it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  John Kerry said today at a Washington hearing on Syria that Arab countries have offered to pay for the entirety of unseating Bashar Assad if we will take the lead militarily.  We're the help, folks!  We're the temporary agency.  Unbelievable.
