Plus, I think they thought the Holiday Inn story would hold up.  We took her there and don't know what happened after that.

The real plan was to blame the security guards.

When no body showed up they expected even those charges to be dropped.

The arrival of both parents and the FBI were not part of the plan.  The huge visible searches that resulted put them on plan b, c, and d.

Good point.  I guess I was thinking that if someone higher up was behind this, someone with experience, then they would have thought it through more.  Thought about the cameras at the hotel, the other students, etc.  And I know I posted this earlier, but what about the GPS on the cars and the phone taps?  How could they have held her captive somewhere and not have gotten caught?  Unless the person they handed her off to had no further contact with any of the original kidnappers.

My gut feel is that this theory is almost spot on.  I'll even bet this is the first time they've attempted something like this.

My fictional scenario had to the son in money trouble at the casinos, but now I remember that it was said that father and son went together.

So imagine that Dad now has a huge debt to some cartel--gambling or drug, and they must look for a away to pay it back.

that doesnt happen....here when they see that you becaome a "jinkie" the casinos give you a black list and you cant enter any casino on the island for a period of time and ALL casinos bann you....
Unless perhaps you are "an influential" person !

If Natalee is alive and is returned to her parents, it would be such a good thing.  Both for her family and for Aruba!  People would flock to Aruba to see all of the landmarks they have heard about.  Carlos and Charlies would be booming with lines of tourists.  There would be tours taking people to every place that she visited or was searched.  Americans are the most forgiving people on this earth, and once she was returned, I doubt they would even follow as to what the Aruba justice system did.  Fox might mention it from time to time, but there would be the next hurricane or tornado or murder to follow.  Perhaps even some of those involved in her abduction would profit from their hotels/casinos/boat and car rentals, etc.  Let's hope she is returned alive and it is good for everyone.  If I had her myself, I would just drop her off back at the Holiday Inn and tell her to claim to have amnesia and to have been blind-folded and drugged, so that she could get back home without further detaining.  She probably wants to go to college and not stay in Aruba in some investigation.

Don't wanna take up space, but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's updating us all. If I had to just watch it on CNN I'd be out of the loop..they show nothing on there.

But it still doesn't all make sense.  Why Natalee?  It seems like she would be so high profile if some huge sinister plan was in the works.  And, like so many others have asked, why would you be the last one seen with her if you were going to kidnap her?  That is sheer stupidity, even for a drunk 17 year old.

absolut...is this surreal?  I guess the appropriate finish is: or what?

I think it may be time for some self control in posting. It seems that most (all?) of the island doesnt get Fox. So maybe less is more until the AP puts together a summary for press.

And when they do show something it's usually something that has been on here for over 24 hours.  Isn't it funny?  We know everything before they know it!

Regarding the Father - I can't buy into the idea he is directly involved - I can see the police interrogating him to find out something that might incriminate the son - to fill in gaps - but I think it is a stretch - a Hollywood scenario - to include him in the conspiracy - and for the record - I do not think Joran is to the culprit.

I agree.  One thing we need to remember, as a news report indicated today, it is possible some/one/none of these people arrested are merely "material witnesses"...that's how they do it there.

It could be something came up in the search of the house that he needed to clarify.  It's possible he's involved, or helped cover-up. And he may be questioned to see if Joran's story is the same as his.

wwizard,
I think it was too amatuer of a job for that. Had the bigger fish been involved then I say your theory is plausible but I feel this was a very amatuerish plot by these guys in Aruba and the best they could do was snatch her and hide her until they were able to figure out what to do next in terms of getting her off the island. They probably sat around drinking in the past talking about how much money they could sell a girl for and had delusions of granduer.

tell me the amatuerish part cause I can't find it

Amatuerish as in...if there had been a bigger, more sinister Columbian or Venezuelan influence then there would have been no clues, no trace, no witnesses, no NOTHING.....just GONE...without a trace.

u reely believe that?
