Waukesha County teen missing since Tuesday morning

Kathryn left for school around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. She had texted a friend she'd ride her bike because she missed the bus. Kathryn never made it to school, and her mother flagged down a deputy when she never made it home that afternoon. She hasn't been heard from since.

"Kathryn is not an individual that has a history of running away," says Severson. "Her family has a good, close relationship with her, she maintains contact."

Kathryn's family didn't want to comment, but wanted us to show you the pictures so you can keep your eyes peeled. She may be wearing jeans, a sweatshirt, pink Nikes, and a teal backpack. Any information is good information, as the clock ticks to get Kathryn back.

UT-OH, this does not sound good.

Quote
On Thursday, Waukesha County authorities found her teal bicycle. Although investigators did not disclose where the bicycle was found, Sheriff's Inspector Eric Severson said there were "no immediate signs of foul play."

Nonetheless, detectives still don't know where Stalbaum is and what might have happened on her way to school.

"No one was happy in my grade today, " Joe Calvey, a freshman, said Thursday

Bicycle of missing 15-year-old girl located after citizen tip
Posted on: 4:30 pm, November 7, 2013, by Brandon Cruz, updated on: 05:19pm, November 7, 2013

WAUKESHA CO. (WITI) — Waukesha officials say the bicycle of a missing 15-year-old Town of Genesee girl has been located because of a citizen tip. That development was revealed in a news conference on Thursday afternoon, November 7th

Officials said in the news conference they are looking over the bike for any evidence that might help lead to Stalbaum. But they would not say where the bike was located.

Officials also said they located Stalbaum’s teal backpack. It was found in her school locker.

Officials are also appealing to homeowners and businesses with surveillance cameras to review their video. If they live anywhere in the area where Stalbaum might have been, they’re urged to check out the video to see if there is anything that could help in the search.

“Call us if you have any information — if you think you might have seen her,” said Severson. “We’ll get a deputy to talk to those individuals and try to flush out that information and see how accurate it is.”

I wonder if they know that she brought her backpack home the night before and had it that AM?

If she did have it, that would mean she made it to the school but not to class.... (I'd doubt someone would plant it in her locker)

UPDATE-7: FBI, US Marshals Enlisted in Search for Missing Girl
Updated: Nov 08, 2013 5:03 PM CST

Waukesha County -
Waukesha County authorities are seeking the help of the FBI and US Marshals Service in the search for a 15-year-old girl missing since Tuesday morning. They also released more photos of Kathryn Stalbaum.

Earlier, the sheriff's office announced a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers for information leading to Kathryn's safe return.

The search has turned to Waukesha, after her bicycle was found Thursday near Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said Friday they received 200 tips from the public, and they're following up every one.

They're also appealing to Kathryn, hoping she sees the media coverage and is able to return on her own. They say she's not in trouble and that her family loves and misses her and they want her home.

An extensive search for Stalbaum started at 6 o'clock Thursday morning. Searchers focused their efforts on a two-mile area between Kathryn's home in Genesee and Kettle Moraine High School in the village of Wales and a nearby retention pond.  Officials say they found nothing "suspicious or of evidentiary nature" during that search, which was called off Thursday afternoon.

Authorities also checked hotels, buses and cabs, and also used social media in their search.

FBI, U.S. Marshals now involved in search for missing teen
CREATED 9:13 AM - UPDATED: 4:23 PM

They said they have received around 200 tips, but are not receiving the kinds of leads they were hoping for. Severson said finding the bike miles from where they thought it would be could mean many things.

"There is equal reason to think Kathryn brought the bike to Waukesha as there is to believe she didn't," he said. "That is a long way of saying we don't know."

Severson said they have been communicating with Kathryn's sister in the Minneapolis area.

"Our number one objective is bringing Kathryn home safely," Severson said.

According to Wales-Genesee Fire Chief Jim Moon, they will not be searching the area on Friday because they have searched the area and are confident there is nothing related to the disappearance of Kathryn Stalbaum.

Missing teen's bike found far from probable route to school
CREATED 5:12 PM - UPDATED: 6:43 PM

WAUKESHA - The woman who found Kathryn Stalbaum's bicycle in her boyfriend's front yard is understandably shaken.

She told TODAY's TMJ4 off-camera that the bike was discovered in a landscaped area and she spotted it around 9:30 Thursday morning.  The bushes where the bike was abandoned are barren.

It's across the street from Waukesha Memorial Hospital and now deputies plan to look through surveillance video from the hospital.

Kathryn's family has also not spoken publicly about her disappearance, but sheriff's deputies say they are fully cooperating in the investigation.  They are the ones who positively identified Kathryn's bicycle.

"The family was brought to uh take a look at it. They were pretty sure it was and the uh, they gave us a recommendation on the combination and that opened the lock on the bike lock," said Eric Severson, Waukesha county sheriff's department inspector.

I am interested to see if she did this on her own, or got help. Of all places to wind up, Chicago. If this was a runaway situation, I hope it was a wake up call and she learned a valuable lesson.

Green Eyes, it was reported that "Her bicycle was found near Waukesha Memorial Hospital in Waukesha. Searchers turned their focus to that city."  So, she probably went there and took a bus to Chicago.  "Not far from the area where Stalbaum’s bike was found is the Waukesha bus station."  I don't know if we'll ever know the whole story.  Anyway, it's good that she is safe and has returned to her family.

Kathryn Stalbaum back in Wisconsin, reunited with family
Posted on: 2:53 pm, November 9, 2013

TOWN OF GENESEE (WITI) — Kathryn Stalbaum, the 15-year-old Waukesha County girl who had been missing since Tuesday, November 5th, is now back in Wisconsin and has been reunited with her family.

Many concerned residents are still worried about what happened to Stalbaum during the four days she was missing.

“To have that happen to a girl my age and have it be so close to home is very unreal to me,” said Annabella Kolinski. “This made me think twice about the time of day when I run and if I should go for a run, especially wearing ear buds and running by myself.”

The Stalbaum family has asked for privacy while they get a handle on the situation.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding Stalbaum’s disappearance
