Springfield police released a statement just before midnight Wednesday saying that a man had been taken into custody on kidnapping charges.

The suspect's name hasn't been released. Police said he was found inside a vehicle at a local home.

Witnesses told investigators a man in a gold-colored 2008 Ford Ranger drove down the street several times before approaching Hailey and pulling her into his truck around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

A news conference was scheduled for 6:30 a.m. Watch it live on KMBC-TV and KMBC.com.B

This morning’s 6:30AM Police press conference:

The police have identified the suspect in custody as 45 year old Craig Michael Wood, charged with kidnapping.
It is on an-going police investigation.
The police made no mention of Hailey Owens’ body being found; however, parents have told media that they were informed their child has been found deceased.

So sad!

It was the first thing I heard on my local news this morning.

The suspect was in his truck when he was arrested and charged with kidnapping, but his identity has not been released?  Strange, imo.  Maybe they're just being extra careful?

I'd read in one of the articles last night that with the warm weather more kids were out playing when Hailey was abducted.  Sad, that a child can't walk down the street to see their friends anymore.

God bless the heroic neighbors that saw what happened and tried their best to save Hailey.

My thoughts and prayers are with Hailey's parents, siblings, and all who love her, as they grieve the loss of this precious child.

Praying for Justice, that it's swiftly applied, and sends a strong message to other monsters who look for any opportunity to abduct and murder innocent children.

Rest in peace, Hailey.   an angelic monkey

I stand with the girl, Natalee Holloway.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.

Not sure if this is the one, but there is a Craig M. Woods referenced in Whiterpages that lives in Springfield, MO between the age of 40-44

http://www.whitepages.com/name/Craig-M-Wood/Springfield-MO/29c276b

The addresses are only about 5-6 miles away.

Actually there appear to be a couple of Craig M. Wood and Craig Michael Wood in Springfield, MO

He's on Missouri's case net file.  Looks like possession of a controlled substance back in 1990 and illegally taking a turkey (?) back in 2001.  I can't find him on a sex registry.

Craig Michael Wood was found by police in the 1500 block of E. Stanford.

That appears to be where he lives.

Craig Michael Wood: Suspect in abduction of Springfield girl Hailey Owens arrested for murder
Posted: Feb 18, 2014
Updated: 34 mins ago

By 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Springfield police say they received a tip that led them to Wood at a residence in town.  They initially believed he and Owens were heading to Oklahoma.

Police say a search around the residence where Wood was found yielded evidence of foul play.  The FBI Evidence Response Team is now helping process the scene.

Witnesses told investigators Tuesday Wood drove down the street several times before approaching Owens and pulling her into his truck.

Springfield police expect to release more information about the case later this morning.

I've always heard that oftentimes the victim is dead within the first couple hours.  So, so sad.  I really thought this one would end differently.

Allegedly, this guy is a teacher.  If you read the comments May Thompson indicates he works at Pleasant View.
