Probably not the best way to contact them though. Mail from here to there is not speedy.

Yeah, we sent postcards from Jamaica and were home a month before they got here.  From Mexico it was only like 2 weeks.  I don't complain about the USPS anymore.... Laughing

Native Lingo -- can you tell us what you've heard today on the other missing persons report and another possible murder (not the partial decapitation) that was discussed earlier today, and if there has been any association with the Holloway case?

I heard that the other missing person is the one they assume is a suicide/attempted suicide case and not related to the NH case.
I know there was an attempted murder of a woman yesterday....A "Lover's" thing....she was pretty critical and I don't know wether she made it or not.....

Unfortunately Native what your island may be seeing with the sudden increase in crime is just exactly what most places in the rest of the world are experiencing. I would say that if your island has been so crime free for this long, it was just a matter of time before things changed.

If he is guilty and convicted, he is also a minor and would probably get even less due to his youth.  I'm not sure if they are allowed to charge him as an adult, like in this country.  Maybe someone knows, but if charged as a minor would get far less.  Maybe someone else can confirm that or add more.

Under dutch law anyone over the age of 16 is treated as an adult.
Lincoln Gomez is a very good friend of mine and I will ask him about the penalties tomorrow. But I believe it's 20 to life for murder cases......
(I cannot remember anyone getting more then 20 though)

hey native, why do i see sooo many miscelaneous photos of Arubans all doing the same 2 finger sign? (kind of like a peace sign which I actually do alot in photos but just thought it odd that there were so many people there that do it)...just curious

I have no idea what it means...but someone here said it was a "peace" sign.....

Another report from Dan Riehl:

Joran v d Sloot: A Contrast In Character
Following up on a story by Steve Huff of The Dark Side, having reviewed certain records, including text and images, which cannot be made public as they involve minors not implicated in this case, it does seem apparent that 17 year old high school senior Joran v d Sloot walked a strange and wide line between man and boy.

Apparently, at the same time 6'4" school athelete was said to be a proficient gambler frequenting the clubs and casinos in Aruba, he was also known to have had an apparent romantic involvement with a 7th grade girl of thirteen until her parents learned of the relationship and made their daughter break off the relationship back in March.

Read more about it here: http://www.planethuff.com/darkside/archives/cat_the_vanishing_of_natalee_holloway.html

This story was very likely pulled from Valentijn's girlfriend's blog.

MAYBE THEY GOT THE WRONG VANDERSLOOT.  REMEMBER VALENTIJ CLAIMS TO BE 18 ON HIS SITE.

Yikes; so if Jaron is charged and found guilty of murder (yeah, big assumption at this point), he could be out in his mid 30's??  Shocked

30??? are you kidding???
The maximux is 20yr (but reduced +/- to half due to good behavior... so, max=10)
Since pre-trial counts and he's minor... I could say he's out before the 26th anniversary!

Something tells me *if* he were to be convicted and *if* he were to get out in less than 10 years, he may be safer in prison...

I don't know what to think of what Dan posted on his site.  I do think it's possible they are giving Joran a lie detector test.
I'd like to know which of the boys changed their story?  That's very important...this version suggests it's Joran's revised story...not the brothers.

Hi Nancy
I just peeked in this evening and saw your question. I have been keeping track of this.  First all 3 boys said they took NH back to the HI. Then after they were questioned separately the brothers changed their story and said that they dropped JVS and NH at the Marriot.  At the same time JVS said that they dropped him home first and continued to the HI with NH.

2 days ago JVS changed his story to match the brothers and now alleges that they dropped him off at the Marriot and then (he left NH sleeping at the beach)  the sleeping part is new today.

Hope this is what you were looking for.  Have a good evening.

GutFeeling:

What do you think of this?

Thank you so much!  Hmmmmm, since the boys haven't spoken to each other, or so we're told,  I wonder how the stories ended up matching?  (If this report is true)

AMIGOE CURACAO

Aruba
Aanhouding vierde verdachte verlengd
20 Jun, 2005, 17:04 (GMT -04:00)

ORANJESTAD — Three weeks after the american student Natalee Holloway disappeared there is not a trace of her. The public Ministry has arrested four and is continuously questioning witnesses and following up tips. This morning Steve Croes was before the Judge Commissioner and his detention was extended.

Paul van der Sloot, the father of 17 year old suspect Joran van der Sloot, was heard for a long time Saturday as a witness. The three other young suspects in the Holloway-case are meanwhile transferred to the holding house (KIA). The 19 year old Satish Kalpoe was moved Friday night to KIA. His older brother Deepak and Joran van de Sloot were transferred today.

It is known of the KIA that suspects can have contact with eachother and fine tune their stories with eachother. According to Papito Comenencia, police spokesman that will also happen in the Holloway-zaak. Comenencia: “They will surely talk to eachother in KIA, and we have a problem with that." According to Mariaine Croes, spokesperson for the Public Ministry, the holding of the suspects at KIA does not have to be a problem. Croes: “The minor will be in a special area for minors and the other two can be separated if that is necessary. Freddie Maduro, KIA director, said that all three will go in the minors section and will be placed so they have no contact with eachother.

26 year old Steve Croes was arraigned today before the judge commissioner who extended his detention for 8 days. Croes was picked up at his house in Casariba, in Santa Cruz. He is suspected of the same matters as the three young people, accessory to murder, accessory to manlaughter (doodslag) or intentional kidnapping (opzettelijke vrijheidsberoving). Croes is DJ on the partyboat de Tattoo.

According to Comenencia Paul van der Sloot was heard as a witness a total of three times. Comenencia: “We hear witnesses all the time, the whole time now. That someone is heard as a witness does not mean that they are a suspect."

Nancy, that was one thing I heard on news today. A report that daddy VDS was called back in because now that he and Joran cannot compare notes, their stories (as far as timing) differed significantly.
